Quote: The Meteor Shower (3) : It wouldn't be a star festival without a meteor shower! Right on time, a beautiful array of shooting stars graces the night sky. This time of year is unnaturally clear and it's incredibly easy to see the stars. Most meteor fragments appear to be little white or yellow lights streaming across the sky, but if you watch closely enough you may find that some of them seem to be a whole rainbow of colors. The scientists have reported that it's just different components burning up as they enter the atmosphere, but there's something undeniably magical about it. Limosa had not powered in.... Too long. As she walked the park well after dark her mind was on the past few years. Changing her degree, bonding closer to her Dad and half brothers -- Her half brothers, whyo uit turned out two were twins.... Who just lost their stepmother..... While work mattered and she'd almost visited an Air Museum to study engines after dark, she could get data from the proper requrests to analyze ideas for work. It was news about her step mother that pushed her into powering again. Where Limosa had no quarrel with chaos or the Negaverse.... They still targeted her half-brothers without knowing the boys were related. She couldn't unsee her Dad's panicked, broken face as La Brea, she couldn't unsee him telling the boys it was an intruder. She couldsn't unsee the police reports, and knowing. Knowing. Knowing it was self defense. Defense of the boys. The younhggest were just nine, at most, and-- Limosa shook her head. HJer Dad was... A wreck, and since she had a house she was minding her little half-brothers, cheering them up, even having Eric buss the twins and briung everyone to her workplace to learn after school. And LKawrence came daily for dinner. Her Dad refused to ignore the boys. It was just.... Duifficult. And Limopsa needed to be sure her family was safe, but so far it seemed a one-off. Her stepmother had a wild, corrupting hair, and she hadn't managed to report, or to call attention to her home. Still, Limosa refused to sit pretending anymore. So Limosa was back. Still, her thoughts were a storm as she walked through the park, mind focused and intent on patrol, and not the boys being babysat by gewr coworker. Hre senses were alert for signs of danger, and she walked carefully, glancing abiout silently as she soaked in the park. At the very least.... At the very least it was peaceful yonight.

In Mauvian form, Soleiyu had great success with passing through the shadows on the trek from point A to B. It would have been more convenient if he could just teleport–shame on the Velencians for not sharing their warp pad technology and resources–but he supposed it was a nice enough night to be running around.
Especially when it afforded him the chance to run into old faces.
Even Soleiyu had to do a double take. “Limosa,” he said, only when he was practically underfoot.
“A sight for sore eyes!” And, his were very sore. Seeing her, he decided his projects could wait. “Where have you been? It’s been ages. You look good, how are you doing?”

Limosa was first to admit she missed paying attention until Soleiyu was right underfoot but when she heard the Mauvian, she lit up in delight and moved to grab him in a firm hug, grinning as she embraced her old friend in a warm embrace. "Soleiyu!" Limosa greeted in elation. It was good to see someone friendly. "I've been in college, then I ended up with a job at an aviation firm." Limosa beamed ear to ear with such pride, before pausing. "And - as for how I am, I have my littlke half brothers at my house. I actually started patrolling again. Things calmed a bit a while but them..." She took a breath., "Well my Dad... He's a knight of Saturn. It turned out he caught the Negaverse in the house trying to take my kid step brothers because - my step mom was a Negaverse officer." Limosa winced, grimacing as she managed. "She's... Handled. Dad's in grief counselling right now. So I've got three kids wiyth my house and a coworker. Seem,ed a s,art oidea tp cp,e back out and about, if only to keep them, safe for my Dad." And herself admittedly and she faltered. "And I mean, I might get ideas for work. I'll spare you the boring details there - I'm in engineering. Anything new with you?" Limosa hugged Soleiyu again, absolutely elated to see him and admittedly - having him there was comforting. She hadn't meant to info dump, but she had so few order people to talk to about things.

Soleiyu was a very large cat, who demanded a great deal of respect, so it was always surprising when someone picked him up so effortlessly. He released a soft ‘oof’ but did not struggle or protest when he wound up in her arms. His tail twitched, not quite agitated but certainly alert.
In the end, he couldn’t even be annoyed. The hug was nice.
It was good to see her here. Alive. Well.
“So much new, I wouldn’t even know where to start. I keep very busy, you know. But I’m very proud of you, engineering? Aviation? Those aren’t easy fields for humans.” Easy for Mauvians, of course. He found his interest spiking again, tempered only by the gravity of the other admission.
It would have been too easy to pretend like he hadn’t heard what she said about her step mother, but it wouldn’t have been fair to her to simply avoid it.
There had been so many losses in this war. He was sorry she had to be connected to one of them.
In a gesture of friendly reassurance, he butted his head gently beneath her chin.
“While dealing with all of that? You’re very strong, Limosa. I’m sorry you had to go through that. How are you holding up, really? Let me pry, it’s in my nature. I’ll know if you lie to me, we Mauvians can sense it.”

"I can probably show you the business I work at soimetime after hours. Right now we're working on something for commerciual flight, but..." But Limosa knew information could help Order. Mauvians were clever, surely her work had sopmething the Mauvians might be inspired by. She adhjusted her hold, ensuring Soleiyu could jump down any time he wished as she held him before she spoke, listening and gtiving the words significant weight, before she started to dspeak a moment. "We're holding up. Dad's a Saturn Knight. He came home to her corralling my half-siblings to make off with and... Well. Negaverse in the house. He powered up and went in for the defensive strike and... Turned out it was my step mother af fault. Dad called me after things and I ended up, I mean... I have my half brothers in my house. I have a coworker babysitting the boys right now. We were... Able to frame it as a break-in easily enough. But Dad's in grief counselling so I have my little half brothers. I'm actually trying to patrol more to keep them safe. A black rose isn 't exactly the most... Helpful of knight weapons." Limosa sighed. She walked to a bench and sat, setting Soleiyu ion her lap as hher expression turned quiet. "I don't mind watching the boys. They're still kids. I'm just.... Horrified that Dad had to go through it himself. So I just want to make sure it doesn't happen again. Keep my siblings safe. Keep them, well, out of things. I've had periods I can at least avoid problems running into the NBegaverse in the pastm, but Dad lacks the same experience. I need to get back into things for my brothers and in case he starts powering more." L:imosa sighedm, hugging Soleiyuy again, scratching between his ears. "Dad has less experience in this business than I do and it feels utterly weird to admit." It was weird to think about. To admit she lacked confidence originally, and now she was the most exoperienced and confident with the war. .... It was... A lot to think about, and Limosa was quiet, for a moment, contemplative. "When did I become the one with experience in the family?"

Soleiyu let himself be carried, positioned. He understood that it wasn’t for his comfort as much as it was Limosa’s, and it seemed like she would benefit from the companionship. Soleiyu was very well aware of how much safety and warmth and comfort he could bring, so he leaned into that and let the soft rumble of a purr grow from his chest as he bumped his head under her chin.
Rather than huffing indignantly at the scratches behind his ear, he let his tail curl around himself and twitch complacently as he sat still within the hug.
“You’re working so hard,” he mused. “...It sounds like things have been difficult for you and your family. I hope you’re not carrying this burden all on your own. If you ever need a break,” he shrugged. “Ask me for help. I’m very good at solving problems. Does your father need someone to patrol with? I know a few Knights that could look after him. You wouldn’t have to go out alone either, I could make sure you have company. Just in case you were looking for it.”

"I'm trying. I can definitely use help. Like not sneaking intov the local Aeriospace museum to pick over engines for ideas for work..." Limosa laughed wryly. "I was very tempted, but somehow using magic to sneak in for reserarch still feels utterly dishonost." Limosa laughed, warmly. She wasn't angry, she was.. Just happoy for company. Someone to talk to about what was going on. For everal moments, Limosa seemed to think, eyes closing before the senshi nodded, smiling a bit. "That might be a smart idea. I don't know or remember if Dad's met other knights even. I'll patrol with him, he's good to patrol with, but I'm not sure he's met anyone. I haven't met anyone in a while either, and a lotr of my meetings were... They were actually some Negaqverse officers. I can be neutral as long as nobody's getting huirt and someone is friendly, but then... they.. They also have people waiting at home for them. Even if they're not on the same siude." Limosa admitted. "I will fight if attaqckjed or to protect if needed, but." It seemed to work so far though. Limosa was able to differentiate between when attack was wise, or unwise. Safe, and unsafe. As for company, Limosa was visibly considering, mulling over the logiuc and reasoning before nodding. "I haven 't met many Order fgoilk., It might be smart to at least meet some on my end. Senshio or not. Beats down time overtraining self defense with someone taller and stronger. You'd be impressed what leverage can do though." Limosa laughed weajkly.

Soleiyu tilted his head as he observed her, mulling over the practicalities of being ‘neutral’ in this war. He nearly kept his thoughts to himself but couldn’t help remind, "Promise me you’ll remember that just because you’re neutral, it doesn’t mean everyone is. Don’t be deceived by someone with pretty words and a kind smile. Especially if they’re drenched in Chaos.”
But, she was an adult. He wouldn’t nag her.
He just worried.
“There’s an App on your Senshi phone–the Connections one? You might want to use it to see if you can make friends, fast. But if not, I’m happy to introduce you to mine. I’ll feel better knowing you’ve got someone to keep an eye on you. I’ve just found you again after so long, it would be a shame to lose you! Especially when you’re doing such important research. Really, I wish more Senshi had that ambition. I don’t see why you shouldn’t sneak into a museum, though. You’ve got this power, why not use it? I sneak in all the time,” he said, visibly proud of himself.

"TI do have the app." Limosa tilted her head thoughtfully. "I suppose I can do more than flick through. One of the senshi looks like a coworker for whatever reason, it's amusing. And hard not to make hjokes about." Limosa admitted, chuckling. She motuioned. "More iopotions meeting people can help though. And there's noone to say you can't come to my place any time. My baby half brothers are pretty well behaved. Onbe might just want to 'cuddle the kitty' but he's also kind of the oddball. ?Gentle kid hyst,,, Well. ?You knopw. Juds will see a Mauvian and go 'Kitty'! abd Eos is the typoe who does that. So is Cryrus. Eric is.... I mean they're two seven year olds and a nine year old. But after bed we can probably work on some ideas. And visit. Anbd if you need a space to sleep, you'd be welcome. My Dad's a knight, he'd probably appreciate extra eyes anyhow." Limosa was confiudent of that. La Brea might be a Saturn Knight, but the man was sensible and he'd welcome more eyes on the boys as he learned to cope... And Liumosa suspexted th4e man was planning fopr his next patrol process. Or something similar - La Brea was smart. Terrifyingly smart. "You think I can sneak into the Museum? I mean, I'd need a fork lift for engines. Although..." And suddenly Limosa's eyes narrowed in thought, an idea flkashing through her eyes. "A lot of ols jets have useful technology to study that Order can use. And a Mauvian can probablky help me adapt something for Order uyse. Radarts, or maybe camera systemsa.... We can definitely take a look. I can also get some blueprints for work for 'research' such as spacecraft we can study. I know from my homeworld there was much better at some point - but there's got to be some kind of options. Maybe we cam work somnething out for Senshi transit around homeworlds. And I can take you to mine sometime, we just - we'd be stuck to the capital." Limosa motuioned. "My homeworld has no winds. I need to figure out what's causing it."

Soleiyu grimaced when she mentioned children, and his tail instinctively curled around himself. He kept it close to his body and tucked it under his paws. “Children are dangerous,” he cautioned. “They’re not very good at keeping secrets.”
And, of course, what normal adult would think much of a child talking about a talking cat? That was a perfectly fine fantasy for a child.
It was just dangerous if, say, they said it to a Negaverse Agent.
“If you want to sneak into the Museum, I can help you. It’s really no trouble to disable security systems. Human technology is quite rudimentary to a Mauvian like me,” he boasted. “So if you want help with more than just trespassing, you should call me. That’s easy. I’m a bit more interested in your world having ‘no winds’ though. You should look for someone who knows about meteorology to help you look into that. I want to hear what you find.”

"I tell my little brothers I'm working later to patrol. Research. Means my coworker is thrown off too." Limosa admitted. "So claiming it's catsitting a few hours is easy enough. Keeping them occupoied too." Limosa absolutely knew the danger iof children. As far as they knew their mom had died after a break in during a pretend game. They seemed toi believe it. Limosa hoped they believed it. But nothing ever came up in school - bless the fleeting memories of kids. Still felt weird being her brothers' guardians. She actually recalled her twin brother Reynard looking after her and the irony... It wasn't lost. For a moment, thinking on it, she seemed to loosen a bit. Forwn to herself. She had to be better for her brothers. But she already had to do to them what Rey and her mother and uncle Uriah did to her. She had to lie. Anothercruel twisat of fate. But the Conversation moved on and Limosa hummed. "Well the museum is useful for workj. Though sometime perhaps we should. You never know when developing something with wings and engines would help another senshi, or helpop in Homeworld transportation to and from and between. Even something small. Teleporting takes energy." Limosa noted. Her mind fell on her homeworld then. She leaned back, eyes closing. "I might do some meteorological research." Limodssa admitted. "If not an Expert in Order, I know enough to know no wind means no meteorological system. I've never seen weather. Just day and night, and it's a very watery place as far as maps I found imply. Siomething's off with it, Although." Her eyes narrowed thoughtfully. "Jet engines are combustion-turbine enginers. And I know old oceanliners and modern cruise shios and the like use engines. Maybe I need to devise something to convert an ancient sailboat out there in drydock into a ship with an enginge to investigate other locations. Just - there's something off and I can't place what."

“Well, it sounds like you’ve got an inventive plan already,” Soleiyu mused, in a tone that said he–of course–supported her, but he’d have meddled if given the opportunity. Investigating technology, modifying and adapting it? Oh, it was his realm of expertise.
It was so hard not to inject himself into her business.
He was so nosy helpful!
“I’m invested. You’ll keep me updated on this, won’t you? Do you have my phone number? Let me give it to you, we need to keep in contact.”

"I think so but let's be sure." Limosa nodded, fiushiong her phone out. The senshi made absolutely sure her cat companion was there - she wanted to keep touch. And she wanted to work with him! "We should work on getting some idea on paper soon for how and what's adaptable but I should be able to get some ideas for basics soon enough. Goodness knows NASA probably has archival infoirmation on old programs. A bit old but we can make tge older tech work better siunce newer tech is still more... Fiddly." Her mind went toi the plane she was trying to help design. "I can also bring copies of the plane from work, since I trust you won't leak it. We only have concepots, but, we shoiuld have something useful in those too to start from." And THAT Limosa was confident of. "I can have the boys watched for our next meeting, too. Gods know I mentioned 'Babysitting' and Yolie just about imploded seeing kids...." And Limosa was grateful her coworkjer did too. The other engineer seemed happy to play with them and tuck them in even if.... Well one of her kid brothers seemed just weiurd at times. Still, it was good to have a plan, and La Brea was likely to approve of her trying to be productive. And the science. Absolutely the science. ...She swore, her father was Big Nerd.

Soleiyu’s tail twitched behind him eagerly, excitedly. If he was trying to hide how enthusiastic he was about this plans, he was failing. So, he probably wasn’t trying very hard.
“An excellent plan,” he deduced, finally jumping from her lap.
“I’ll clear off my schedule so I can squeeze you in. I’ve got some pressing projects, I’ll go work on them now.” There was a bit of a bounce in his step and he was obviously looking forward to getting home to get them off of his plate. “I’ll see you soon, Limosa. Be good!” he said before bounding off.
