It's a five minute drive outside of the Eastern side of town and features clear water and sandy beaches--although, the sand here is notorious for squeaking when you step on it. It's a hot spot for all fun summer activities, but it's been in the news for mysterious reports of some strange, aquatic monster. Some accounts say they've spotted a twenty foot long, snake like creature capable of rearing a long neck high above the water. It's hard to tell if the videos are doctored, but there are too many rumors to dismiss easily. Something strange might be lurking deep in the water. Or it's just a hoax to get people out to the Reservoir! But…Sometimes, people feel like something is grabbing their ankle, even if they are just wading in the shallow end. In the deeper parts of the water, it gets a little more intense: something has been said to grab onto ankles and pull. People have been warned about dangerous pranks, but so far no one has been caught. In the shallow end, anyone unfortunate enough to be targeted may feel themselves being knocked off their feet and tugged into the water; anyone in deep water may feel a firm grip on their ankle, tugging them lower and lower. Somehow, anyone it targets is freed--either by wriggling and fighting, or because someone intervenes and pulls the would-be victim up. No one has drowned in the lake. Yet. It's impossible to see who, or what, is doing this, but it usually gives up after one failed attempt. Usually. While you may find yourself harassed by the supposed cryptid, or see something visibly odd in the distance, you cannot take any pictures of the creature. Who knows if you're even being attacked by the cryptid–or just another youma? Siv had heard a lot of rumours about the reservoir but she had to admit to herself that..... Well.... Unless she saw something herself, like it or not she was going to the resevoir and that was that. ... Well maybe she was goiung to swim but she wasn't goiiung to let some stupid rumour of some stupid cryptid stoip her. Should she likely have scouted last night as Oumuamua? Oh absolutely. Did she remember where her henshin pen was?.... Well not until this morning actually when she foubnd it in a drawer buried where noone would find it without braving the challenges of her riin ir rusjubg wajubg ger uom ir danmaguibg --- well anyhow it was safe and she foubd it! that counted for somethingm, didn't it? Regardless she was here now and Siv pranced about the edges of the water in her swimsui5, sizing up the water with a suspicious look. On one hand.... On one hand.... She could be sensible and stay oput of the water, stay safe and away from whatever hellbeast lie in wait. Or she could make the illogical choice and go in to impress the cute oceanographer at her local coffee shop every morning. There was that perk and despite still not knowing his name... Somehoiw. But they talked! Once! Or twice! And he was smart-- and Siv shpoopk her head. Yes! She could do this! She could - go in the water and impress the cute oceanographer at the coffee shop ands finally learn his name and THEN ALL MIGHT GO WELL., .....And Siv promptly turned and started laying her beach towel out first. One had priuorities after all no need to rush she wasn't a stinking coward.

"I'll be fine, Uncle Corbeau." Maigo smiled slightly at the man fussing over her, despite the fact she was an adult. "I have my sunscreen, I have my parasol, and I don't plan to go out far into the water." The man sighed, shaking his head.
"Fine, fine. I just worry. And some of the stories I overheard from others here today are...unsettling." Maigo laughed softly.
"We both know gossip is just gossip. And weird things happen all the time. It's likely something that's easily explained, people just like the 'mysterious' option more. Gives them something to talk about." While her uncle got their little area set up, she set to strolling along the shore, ruffle-y parasol up, sunhat and sunglasses perched just right on her head and nose respectively, and feet in the cool water. While she wasn't really an outdoor person, it was a nice break from the computer screen.
She paused after a bit, not far from another person [not that she noticed], squinting out into the distance of the reservoir. Maigo even slid her sunglasses down a bit, pursing her lips. She could have sworn she saw a flicker of something out there. Not the flicker of light against water, but...something. She wasn't sure what....

Siv fiunished staking in her atrociously bold umbtrlla over her blanket and coioler like staking a claim --- and she was, technically. Her Dungeons and Dragons beach blanket vibrant, her cooler covered in stickers of nerdy and non-nerdy nature... And then Siv considered her sun screen once more,. pulling the SPF 50 out. Ah... Right, her first-- Siv's thoughts were interrupoted by the arrival of new peoipole and for a moment Siv puffed up trying to protect her spot before realizing they claimed a different spot. Siv began to settle once more despite the conversation, suddenly finding watching more interesting - still unsettled at the idea of going swimming with the rumours before spying something on the water. For one moment she wanted to power up and barge into the ewater in a glorious warpath. And then sensibility won out. After all, Siv had witnesses here, and she wasn't sure her magic would work. So instead Siv wandered over, opting to be alert and in a worst case,. would be her guide. Besides it would be A TALE for that... Cute... Guy.... Siv shook her head to clear it and wandered over next to Mauigoi, staring out. Information! PROTECT THE INNOCENT!/.... Some heroic line like that. "Did you see that thing in the water?" Siv asked, frowning.

Maigo startled a bit at the unfamiliar voice, fumbling her parasol a little before clutching it more tightly, turning to the unfamiliar face with a small blush of embarrassment. "Oh! Uhm...I uh...I saw something. I'm not sure what." She hadn't expected to deal with people that day! "I'm guessing you spotted something out there, too?" It was...so much easier to deal with people when she could type things out and take her time! But...she couldn't exactly scoot back to her uncle...

Siv watched Maigop a moment before answering, reading her a moment before smiling kindly, nodding. "Yeah, I did. My name's Siv. It's really nice to meet you. Siv felt terrible for startling the poor thing. She'd only meant toi be friendly, cut she supposed it would be alarmiung if somebody strange barged on upo and suddenly spoke to them, and Siv bowed politely, her experience visiting her family back home in Japan, adopted or not, kicking in before she spoke again, trying not to frighten her. The girl was darling, Siv decided, and she wanted to make a friend. "I came out trying to ah. Swim to impress a guy. This is..." *Siv faltered. "I mean, I'm not scared or--" Another falter, and Siv slumped, sighing and groaning. "Sorry. I'm trying to be tough but if I'm hgonest despite coming out to try swimming with whatever's out there to impress a guy? Yeah no. No that looked like all kinds of ******** no. Oardon my language, I... Ugh." Siv rubbed the back of her neck., She was making a total a** of herself, wasn't she?

Maigo frowned slightly, lips pursing before she spoke. "Whatever is out there, it's likely not nearly the issue rumors make it out to be. But...I understand being nervous." The bow had surprised her a little, the girl more used to seeing relatives use such a form of greeting. She hadn't visited outside of the States in...well, a few years. Not since the last disaster of trying to give her mother's extended family the benefit of the doubt. She held her hand out, frown turning into a nervous smile.
"Maigo. It's nice to meet you, Siv. And uhm...good luck with the impressing of your crush?" She had no idea what that was like. All her crushes were fictional. [And therefore could not cause her emotional distress. She had enough drama just dealing with her mother's family's bullshit.]

"I mean, you're probably right." Siv nodded solemnly, sstill eying the resevoir. Her eyes narrowed moodily a moment and Siv spoke again. "It might also be a really big fish. they might've added a bunch for fishing or local species. Or some briulkliant person released some goldfish in there and now they're larger than people are used to. Goldfiah are a type of carp." Siv sighed. Surprisingly, she wasn't melodramatic, nor was she emotional Her response was simply subdued and resigned. "I appreciate that. I might try something else. Unfortunately, I don't have my sister's rizz or charm so I'm kind of.... Trying... Other methods. I nearly never like guys and this one's an Oceanographer." Sibv visaibly caught herself giushing and sighed, shaking her head. "S-sorry., I'm noty really amazing talking to new people in person. It's a lot easier in RP forums or MMOs, you know? Typing means I can think out my answers betterff." Sibv laughed awkwardly.

Maigo nodded, looking thoughtful. "Maybe I should look and see if anything like that has been reported on recently...It would help quell the rumors, I hope...Maybe make any pranksters trying to capitalize on the panic less likely to be..." Unable to find a word she liked, she made a grumpy noise while glaring at the water before looking back to Siv. "Oh? I understand that." She wrinkled her nose a bit. "Typing makes you stop and think." And it was so, so much harder to sound like you were uncertain about the other person's intentions in an interaction. "I'm not much of an 'MMO' person myself, though. Those tend to be...a little too hard to play solo when I'm not feeling like people."

"That'd be a good idea. We could also - don't laugh - get fishing licenses and try catching the goldfish or whatever fish it is in the water. If it's invasive there's - humane ways of handling it. Besides, seeing the beast might calm poeopkle down when they see it's just some stupid fish." Siv nodded wiselym crossing her arms tthoiughtfully. "Can't calm everyone down but it will certainly assuage the sensible sorts. And who knows, maybe it'll be a fish that's like... A catfish. If it's a catfish we can safely eat, catfish fry." Sive really wasn't trying to be morbid in the least, she just wanted to help. And be practical. .... And maybe she was craving fish now. A catfish at least explained the 'grabbiung'... They might bite. Then Siv motioned. "Oh, I get it. There's a lot of challenge to staying alone in MMOs when you don't feel like people. I know XIV has trusts of NPCs in the early dungeons now if people feel antisocial. Trials are trickier but I meanm, those are only a few minutes. If you want we can swap Discord handlkes and I can helpoo when you feel up to it, if you're interested." Siv offeredcf, nodding. "Or if you just. Y'know. Ever want someone to chat at."

The suggestion to get fishing licenses made Maigo pause, blinking at Siv in something between confusion and disbelief. "I...I mean..." She pursed her lips. "I don't think fishing would be a good idea for me, but...I could keep you company if you did? I suppose." The thought of herself fishing felt...no. It wasn't a mental image she particularly liked outside of Minecraft. She fidgeted with her parasol a bit.
"I...don't guarantee I would try the game you mentioned, but...I guess it wouldn't hurt to trade Discord handles?" It was weird doing so with someone she'd met in person, but...it couldn't hurt just once? Right? And it would make her uncle happy to see her making friends.

Ah, hell. She screwed uop diudn't she? Too friendly?.... Maybe? This was why Siv tried sticking to the internet coffee shops and her gaming group... Or Game shop pickups lately. She felt like an awkward ducking here and visiting the familky, and Siv nodded, masking her frustration at herself with a warm smile and a nod. "Fair enough. Maybe we can - just chat on Discord. I've never properly fished a day in my life anyway." Siv admitted awkwardly. She fetched some paper, and jot her Diswcord name on it, handing it to Maugo, almost expecting her to never message again. "Aaahhh,,, /Hewre's - here's mine." *Siv grinned. "No pressure. I promise." And she moved to pack up, taking a deep breath. ...She wasn't going to lie to herself.... She was going to go hide in books for a week iof not powered.

Before the other could scoot off, Maigo snagged some of the paper herself, writing her own Discord handle on it. "Here's mine. If you get home before my uncle and I do. Or so you at least recognize who the friend request is from." She smiled slightly. "It was nice meeting you." And with that done, she went back over to her uncle, taking deep breaths. She'd maybe made a friend in person? Maybe? It wasn't a feeling she was familiar with, and she hoped she hadn't screwed up something somewhere.
