Quote:
The Meteor Shower (3) : It wouldn't be a star festival without a meteor shower! Right on time, a beautiful array of shooting stars graces the night sky. This time of year is unnaturally clear and it's incredibly easy to see the stars. Most meteor fragments appear to be little white or yellow lights streaming across the sky, but if you watch closely enough you may find that some of them seem to be a whole rainbow of colors. The scientists have reported that it's just different components burning up as they enter the atmosphere, but there's something undeniably magical about it.

They had some time before the ‘show’ was scheduled to begin so detouring to one of those little booths to pick up some star charms to hand out during the party wasn’t hard. He even decided to keep one of the little violet charms for himself. “It's just a little gathering so just relax and have fun, and if anyone gives you a hard time let me know,” Ben looked down at his fiancé as they took the last few steps that opened onto a building rooftop.

Almost as soon as he stepped into the space he heard, “BRICK! You made it!” And a sandy blonde man came bounding over. “You're late, I was beginning to think you had decided not to show your face. It wouldn’t have been the first time he ditched me at a party,” The man changed his attention from Ben to the smaller woman who was standing with him, telling her conspiratorially that Ben was a party pooper. “Soooooo who is this young lady and why did Brick bring a child to the party.” He smiled down at the woman like an adult smiling at a child even as he shot a look over at Ben, a bit confused as to the man’s companion. “I thought you were bringing your fiancé?”

Honestly, Abby was a bit excited to see how normal parties were held. Coming from high society (even secretive), everything was so posh and uppity, something she found to be stifling at the least and torturous at best unless one of her cousins accompanied her at the time. She looked up at him with an excited smile, “Oh I'm sure everyone will be too busy to give me any sort of trouble.” Famous last words but she would see if that came to fruition. She walked up the steps with Ben to enter onto the building rooftop, looking around at all the decorations and lighting that was apparent throughout.

She nearly jumped at the loud ‘Brick’ that came from a sandy blonde man charging over towards them. some sort of neanderthal? Instead of voicing her thoughts out loud, Abby kept a friendly calm face on, intent on seeing who this person was and how they related to Ben. She did snicker gently, a bit surprised Ben was more of a party pooper than a party goer. It might have something to do with his father’s company or the fact that he was still in college (but from what she knows of, College is supposed to be the time where you party?). Everything was pretty nice as she listened to the conversation, then the man just had to call her a child and then to make matters worse, SMILE at her like she didn't understand what the ‘adults’ were doing.

A slow blink of disbelief was then followed by the frown of a woman slighted. Sure, her bust wasn't….endowed like the average woman, but she HAD clear defining curves that kept most people from thinking she was a little child. “I'm….Sorry?” she tilted her head, looking at the man innocently, “First, I can speak for myself. If you want more info about me then please ask. Second, I am, in fact, twenty years old. I would think that meant I am no longer a child. Thirdly, I am Bennett’s fiancé. My name is Aberdeen, Abby for short, and I swear if you seek to infantize me again there will be no one stopping me from turning you from the neanderthal that you present yourself to be into something more deserving of your lack of intellect.” She was pretty proud of herself, she didn't yell, but she was extremely annoyed.

Ben was about to open his mouth to put the fear of god into him when Abby decided to do it herself. Instead he just grinned and informed Jack just how badly he had stepped in it. “Jack-a**, before opening your mouth and inserting your foot again I suggest you apologize because if you don’t my foot is going up your a**…. And her’s will likely end up crushing your balls.”

“Whoa, whoa! No need for violence.” The man put his hands up in the ‘I’m unarmed’ gesture before sweeping into a gallant, if overdone, bow. “I apologize. That was my bad, I was surprised because I thought Brick just always had a thing for tall chicks so-” He trailed off before standing upright and animantly waved at someone across the semi crowded roof. “Oh look! There is Sammy, I’ve got to go. You know where the drinks are Brick. Later!” And instantly disappeared back into the crowd leaving Ben behind trying to smother the urge to chase Jack down and strangle him.

“And that…. Was Jack.” Ben sighed even as he urged Abby away from the door and out of the way of anyone else coming up to the party. “He is an a*****e but harmless. Pre-law somehow. Smart as all ******** but an massive d**k. Sorry about that. I told him but he only really hears what he wants to.” How he was still roommates with the ******** was still a mystery to Ben. Honestly probably a mix of relatively harmless and general dislike at the idea of finding another roommate. “One of these days I will smother him with his own pillow,” He only half joked.

Noting that she got her point across, Abby definitely looked down her nose at Jack, eyebrow raised. Good god…She knew not all men were like that, but did it always have to be the ones that are going to be lawyers or something involving the law? She rolled her eyes at the tall chicks bit, looking off to the side with annoyance. As soon as he left, Abby looked to her fiancé, “Brick? Is that some weird innuendo?” She waved her hand about the whole info on Jack, clearly unimpressed. “The proper term would be mini d**k right? Massive is a compliment I'm sure he doesn't deserve.” If Ben decided to smother the man with a pillow, Abby had to suggest an alternative, “Take his starseed instead? I could help you with that~” She gave him a grin that was both innocent and malicious at the same time.

Either way, she moved out of the way for people to enter, back to being curious about everything around her. “What are we to do first?”

Ben just made a face before explaining, “It was his attempt at a nickname. Apparently when we first met my face was ‘too blank’ like a brick wall or some BS like that. I honestly was doing my best not to let my ‘inside voice’ show on my face.” The grown man who had just insulted Abby had, at that time, been drunk and being a general nuisance at a frat party that Ben had been cajole into going to. “He also said something about being built like a brick ‘shithouse’ but by then I had truly stopped listening to him.” Although Jake had been the life of the party, and of many others that followed. He really had, and still was, a people person. Ben snickered and shrugged, “Valid and I’ll keep that little idea in the back pocket for now.”

The idea of getting Jack out of his hair, permanently, would have to wait at least until Ben no longer needed a roommate, and even then… it seemed rather callus. But if the other male pulled that kind of stupid stunt again Ben might very well decide to toss morals out of the window.

“First thing is finding a seat,” The rooftop had several benches but most of the available seating was from various lawn and beach chairs that had been lugged up there. “Then I’ll grab us some sodas and snacks. It's nothing fancy. Chips and the like.” The meger food options were why he insisted they actually eat before coming over. They needed proper food before settling in for the show. “So go ahead and pick out a spot, there shouldn’t be any bad ones but I would suggest away from the AC unit since it can get loud.” Ben indicated the large HVAC unit that lurked towards the far side of the available roof space.

Well….Ben CAN have a stoic face sometimes, but she didn't think it was so bad that it would remind someone of a brick. There was a small giggle at the whole ‘inside voice’ thing because she could completely resonate with that. A brick s**t house? That’s….A very crass way of saying Ben had a muscular stature, which she would happily agree with given the fact that she’s seen him in various states of undress. Finding a seat should be the first thing, yes which is what Abby set out to do once Ben said he was going to get some snacks. Chips are iffy for her but she would eat whatever he brought back.

Avoiding the spot where the AC unit was, Abby looked around for a spot, trying to avoid large crowds or seats that seemed like they were on reserved. Looking at the chairs, Abby made a face, but ultimately decided that if she got marks on her pretty little dress it wasn't like she couldn't take it to the cleaners the next day. Eventually settling on a nice quiet corner, Abby sat down carefully tucking her dress underneath her legs while she waited for Ben to find her. Maybe she should stay standing? It wasn't like she was the tallest person in the world.

He had gotten lucky so he was grinning by the time he made it where Abby had settled. “Here. One for you and one for me,” He passed down two water bottles before asking her to close her eyes. Ben waited for her to follow his direction before he pulled the plate of fruit and cheese out from behind his back and presented it to her like the prize it was. “Ok, you can open them.”

The plate was also passed over so he could settle on the blanket that Abby had chosen for their seats. Maybe not his choice but he wasn’t going to complain. It wasn’t like any of the other options allowed them to snuggle, outside of sitting in his lap, and they could always stand if they wanted a better view. Not that this one was all that bad since they were on the edges of the group, the chairs were politely in the center where those sitting lower wouldn’t be blocked. “Someone brought a fruit and cheese tray. I figured you would prefer this over the Cheetos. Although…” He trailed off and his grin definitely took on a more flirtatious glint as he thought of the ways he could help keep the yellow cheese dust of Cheetos off of her very meticulous outfit.

Ben likely was going to say, or do, more when he was interrupted by an excited shout and point. A quick glance at his watch proved that the show was starting right on time. Stars start to streak across the sky. A few at first but rapidly picking up in numbers. A shower of light painting the sky. Beautiful and ethereal.

Never one to turn down water, Abby happily took her bottle, blinking in confusion before closing her eyes. Once he told her to open them, they widened. Here she was expecting chips or something and Ben came with a fancy fruit and cheese plate! She took it with a delighted smile, sitting down on the blanket after tucking her dress underneath her. “Most definitely. I'm not exactly fond of Cheetos, they taste manufactured and artificial.” Yes, she had a spoiled palette but she figured Ben knew this anyway. The sight of his grin and the flirtatious glint in his eye caused her to start blushing and she looked away, clearing her throat.

Good thing everyone had such good timing, because she was pretty sure Ben was going to devour her here in the corner. Abby looked up and gasped, covering her mouth with one delicate hand at the sight before her. The streaking stars were so majestic and pretty! As the show continued, she ate a bit of fruit and leaned over so that her head was resting on Ben’s shoulder. “I've never seen this before…Its beautiful…”

Ben glanced down at where Abby was resting against him and quietly agreed with her, “Yeah. Beautiful.” He slipped his arm around her and turned his attention back to the stars enjoying the sparkling lights drifting across the sky, glad they were both there.

Just enjoying the moment.

And hoping it wouldn't end.
