Under Construction (9) : Construction in Destiny City is a constant; it is never surprising to see buildings come and go. However, almost overnight it seems as though a large project has suddenly come to life. Where there was once an abandoned strip mall and a sad, trash laden park, the ground has now been completely bulldozed. There's no information about this project available in any media outlets or online, and all attempts to research it result in dead ends. A large fence has been put up, but twelve feet of wire isn't enough to keep out anyone curious enough to investigate. Cameras are set up all over the place and there is a strange, almost magical energy. The space is large enough to be a theme park. Strangely, frosted glass stars in an array of colors can be found randomly across the lot. Someone obviously has big plans for this space already, some strange, fantastical buildings are going up. The space feels strangely large, and once you have jumped the fence it feels like Destiny City is a world away. The sky seems brighter and the city lights seem far away, almost as though there is some strange barrier separating the construction zone and the rest of the city. And, oddly enough, if you are standing outside the fence and looking into the construction zone, everything appears blurry and it's hard to make out the details. It's strange, for sure, but nothing seems wrong about it. Yet.

Ben just shook his head and smiled softly at the pettit woman currently standing in front of him, “I’m telling you Princess, we don’t have any work sites on this side of the city.” They were out on a date, and had been enjoying themselves as far as Ben was concerned, when something had prompted the blonde to go on a tear. Insisting that his family had a construction site nearby. Even though he knew beyond a shadow of a doubt there wasn’t one. Hell, he was the one who helped coordinate workers so there wasn’t even a chance that his dad could have scheduled something without him knowing.

Or at least he was pretty sure. “It’s not like our company is the only construction company in the city, Abbs.” But he would humor her, afterall it wasn’t like it would hurt anything. “Then again, maybe I’m wrong,” He definitely wasn’t. “So where is this mythical construction site?” His smile widened into a grin, “Unless, of course, you just wanted to drag me into a dark corner to have your way with me.” He leaned down so he could murmur into her ear, “I’m more than willing to be persuaded for some fun if that's what you want.”

“Your family company is one of the biggest companies around. You can't keep track of everything can you?” Little bratty? Sure. Was she going to apologize? No. She rolled her eyes, “I'm aware your company isn't the only company around, Ben. But we could at least take a look just in case?” She turned around, being her usual huffy self, walking like the ever prim and proper lady that she is towards the site in question, or at least the direction of the site. She wrinkled her nose and looked at him over her shoulder, “Perhaps you are wrong~” she kept walking till she found a fence.

However, her one track minded fiance just HAD to mess with her.

She stiffened, with a shiver then turned her haughty glare over to face him, arms crossed. “As if you would allow me to drag you anywhere, Ben.” With that she started walking to the fence, maaaaaaaaaaaaaybe trying to tease with a small sway to her hips as she moved.

“I wouldn’t say that per-say,” Ben shrugged. “One of the bigger ones sure but not the biggest.” There were a few companies that were as big as, if not bigger than, his family’s although technically they were bigger because they had the contracts on the mega highrises. The ones that required massive cranes and everything. Yeah they had the people qualified for them but there hadn’t really been any jobs that came their way that needed anything more than a standard ground crane. Besides, they did a lot more demo then just construction and that took a hell of a lot of skill. “Oh darling, I keep track of everything that is mine. No ifs, ands, or buts.” He grinned even as he took a playful swat at her backside.

“True, but I won’t say no spending a little more time with you so lead on my Princess.” He gladly watched her saunter away to the fence, her dress swishing with each hip sway. Even if he enjoyed the view Ben was also somewhat curious about just what about the site fascinated Abby. She had seen several by now so it wasn’t like there was anything new to see… was there?

Abby was….Annoyed that she wasn't taller. However, she peeked between the cracks of the fence, frowning when everything appeared to be out of focus. She knew she had 20/20 vision so what gives? Maybe…The small woman looked to her fiancé, “I want to go in.” Now, since the fence was pretty high, she figured getting a boost up wouldn't work and with the cameras, if she were to power up it would have to be really quickly. Eh, she could manage that.

Abby went to a more secluded spot, then transformed, stepping out as meinel.

“Perfect~” without lingering, she turned to grin at Ben then leaped up high into the air, clearing the fence and landing on the other side. She dehenshined when she found a secluded spot and stepped out as if nothing happened. “Ben, are you coming?” She said sweetly.

Ben wasn’t sure what exactly he was meant to be seeing, the fence was definitely more than just keeping people out, it was flat out blocking people’s view. And yet the little bit he could make out was indistinct. Like there was a haze or film keeping him from clearly seeing what was going on. Before he could really decide the next move Abby was taking the lead. She slipped away, returned as Meinel before performing a little Trespassing by hopping the fence, before dropping her magical persona.

Honestly the strangest thing about it all was that ABBY was now hazy as well. Like everything that passed the fence became obscured from outside view. Never one to take a challenge lying down, Ben just grunted before eyeing the cameras. He walked a bit down the way before climbering over the fence, no magical assistance needed. He noticed the change almost as soon as his boots hit the ground. The star sculptures, the strange buildings, and most noticeably, the strange distance between them and the city they had just ‘left’. Almost as though there is some strange barrier separating the construction zone and the rest of the city.

Yeah, this was definitely not a normal construction site. “Abby, stick close. Something is off,” Leery and a bit jumpy, understandable considering the last time he had ‘left earth’ he had died, Ben made sure to remain near Abby. Ready to fight if needed.

Of course he would have the advantage of simply climbing the fence…Because he was taller than her.

Looking around the site, Abby was a bit entranced by the sights before her, walking around with curiosity at all the strange buildings and star sculptures. She didn't notice the distance just yet, reaching out to touch a structure before hearing what her fiance just said. “It’ll be fine Ben. It's not like a youma is going to come and eat us or something.” However, she did decide to not touch anything and stick closer. She could kind of understand Ben’s leeriness given what he went through just months earlier, but still, this had nothing to do with a serpent.

It was now that Abby noticed the strange distance between them and Destiny City, which was odd but given all that she knows about the strange things happening around this city, it didn't surprise her too much. “Maybe this is a negaverse project?” Strange, wouldn't they notify them of something big like this? “What would be the point of building a carnival? Is that what this could be?” Her other half was more versed in this building and construction stuff than she was, so maybe he could add some insight into it instead?

He didn’t say anything as Abby went to touch one of those strange star things but he did relax ever so slightly when she withdrew her outstretched hand and drifted closer to his side. Logically he knew that she was stronger then he was, when powered up, but still. Ben wanted to protect her, and this entire space was making the hair on the back of his neck stand up.

“Why wouldn’t they send out a notice if only to keep other trespassers like us out?” The man eyed the strangely formed buildings, the large glass stars, the entire area in general. Yes it was a large construction site but it was so very bizarre. “No clue but no sane company would have finished buildings and active construction that close together. To say nothing of highly breakable things like those stars.” He shook his head and looked at Abby, “This isn’t anything ‘natural’ that is for sure. We really shouldn’t be here,” Not unless we want to get trapped, he silently added. “Let's get out of here. If you really want a star I’ll find one of those little star charms people are getting. One of those pink ones of course.” He placed a hand on the small of her back and tried to urge her towards the fence where they both crossed the boundary of ‘normal’ city and wherever the hell they were right now. All Ben knew was that they weren’t ‘in Kansas any more toto’ and he didn’t like it.

“Really? Is that some sort of unspoken rule for construction?” she wasn't trying to be smart so much as she wanted to understand, given the fact that she was going to be with Ben for the rest of her life [if everything works out], it only made sense to her. Even if he probably wouldn't let her back onto a site after what happened a month ago. “Well honestly we shouldn't be at any construction site but this one is intriguing, especially with how it's messing with our distance as well as the weird buildings.” While she wouldn't say no to getting a charm, she wanted to get the opal one she saw earlier, Abby really wanted to stay longer. “Ben, I wasn't done…” She huffed and allowed him to urge her along, figuring they should leave just in case, even if her curiosity wasn't satisfied.

“If I want one of those big stars I could just have one made in a glass making workshop somewhere.” She waved her hand dismissively, but ultimately, powered up when they made it to the fence and leaped over it. The difference between the field of view was…Slightly dizzying, but a small shake of her head and Abby was able to recover nicely after powering down. She waited for Ben to show up before she started walking again, back to the monstrosity he called a vehicle. Maybe she would come explore this construction when she was alone just to see if there was more to it.

”Well…. No-” His answer faded even as he eyed the buildings knowing how damaging completed structures or even just building material during construction came out of the profit side of things, as long as it was the company's negligence that is. So highly fragile items like glass were definitely not something that would be just on the ground during active construction. Heavy machinery construction. This whole place was just damn strange.

Ben practically breathed a sigh of relief when he hopped the fence behind Abby. The slight vertigo and unsettled system was just another sign that whatever was going on behind the fence needed to stay there. “Come on, we will be late for meeting Jack.” He still didn’t know why she wanted to meet his roommate but whatever floated her boat.

He was just glad the construction site was behind them.

Literally and figuratively.
