Xaawo hadn't realized just how much she had missed her home until she came back. It was a little bit awkward considering what she had come back for, but her sisters had only given her supportive nods, even if a couple of them had been touched with something else.

But today wasn't about Chiume. Today, after sixteen days, she was going to see Howth again. And she had news.

Her steps quickened as she repositioned the small woven bag at her hip. The space Howth had rented was reportedly larger than the rooms of their past, and she was looking forward to seeing it properly.

She turned, answering his toothy smile with one of her own as she closed the distance between them and leaned in for a kiss. After a swift peck she hugged him, whispering, "Now everyone on this street knows my name," into the shell of his ear.

"If you insist."

She made a show of it, taking a few deliberate steps back and inhaling deeply as she maintained eye contact.

"HOWTH! WE'RE HAVING TWINS!"

She followed agreeably enough, though she could have broken Howth's hold with little effort. Xaawo was quite amused and maybe a bit relieved, since her initial reaction had resulted in the same clammy hands that now lowered their grip to hers. She squeezed them.

"Don't worry," she said with a laugh. "I promise no one cares except for us."

She nodded.

Every day she had gone to pester the mystics, even though she knew how long these things took, but her persistence was rewarded eventually. Early this morning when Xaawo had approached, Makedi had met her with an amused nod. There were definitely two. She schooled her expression, at least for now.

"I have confirmation from the mystics. Azehra has gifted us with two blooms."

"Azehra granting two blooms? Yes, two of my contemporaries are twins." Hesperia and Wangui. She wondered what they were doing now. "I've even heard that she has produced triplets, though I've never met any. Not that I would know. We tend to look different even if we were born at the same time."

Xaawo stopped speaking when she realized she might have been rambling. "Even so, it doesn't happen all that often. I am choosing to take it as a vote of confidence. In us."

"Definitely. We can."

She kissed him gently on the cheek and led him out of the doorway and farther into the house, depositing him in a comfortable chair before moving away. Xaawo could understand the apprehension and uncertainty that he was feeling, but hers simmered under a thick layer of pride. She reached into the bag at her side, pulling out a skin of sloshing liquid. It took a minute or two to find a proper glass, but when she did, Xaawo poured a small measure of the drink, placing it on the table beside him.
