Quote:
Poultrygeist (15) : As Destiny City is a bustling metropolis, it’s not unexpected that there should be some strange animals running the streets. Sometimes it’s a tiger, sometimes a monkey, sometimes a chicken. Sometimes it’s something worse. Strange egg clusters have appeared in Destiny City’s parks and officials aren’t really sure what they are; these eggs have nothing inside of them. Though it’s an anomaly, they are chalking it up to teenaged pranks. However, they have advised to just leave the eggs as they are. Nobody wants to say why, but if you’re out late at night, you’ll find out. In the darkness, whispered between the sounds of the city: a guttural, rasping cluck. The creature stands on stilt-like legs, rooted to the ground with razor-sharp talons. It wears a cloak of long, oily feathers that drag on the ground with a sinister scraping. If you stare into the darkness, piercing red eyes stare back at you. That’s all it takes for a confrontation: a mangled bird, maybe a chicken in another life, comes barreling out at you. It stands easily as tall as a person, but the proportions are all wrong. The smell of sulfur follows it as it lunges, pecking and screaming and scratching as it attempts to chase you away. Maybe, from the nests full of empty eggs. The battles are fierce, but fleeting; it will viciously try to chase you away but the effects are always the same: at some point, the eggs are crushed. As always, there’s nothing inside of them, but with one final wail, the bird will vanish into a plume of foul smoke.

Note: If you choose to encounter one of these bird-like creatures, your character will recognize they are not youma. It is impossible to tell if it is a single entity or if there are many. The bird does not seem to understand or care to listen to human words. It will always disappear in a malodorous plume of smoke and leave nothing but a foul odor and a clutch of empty, broken eggs behind. This RP can be used as a battle requirement as long as there are two powered characters involved; you must be interacting with another player’s powered character. This does not count as the one youma battle per stage for growth so characters can still use an NPC youma battle as well as this one for growth purposes. This can only be used as a battle requirement once per character, but there is no limitation for how many times a player can use this prompt.

Well, Cuan thought as she slowly circled a cluster of strange eggs, this is new. They didn't look like any eggs that she'd ever seen before. And she'd heard that the overall word on them was to simply leave them be. Which, if they knew what sort of bird had laid them, might make things make sense.

Instead, here she was, in the park at dusk, trying to figure out why these things were appearing.

Reaching out with a tiny paw to bat at one, she was interrupted mid-swipe by the aura of someone on her side of things. Oh, that was all right then. A senshi or knight meant an assistant. That would make investigating the eggs much easier!

Sitting on the grass, her little voice pipped up, sounding almost imperious.

"Whoever you are, if you could come this way and help me, I'd much appreciate it!"

Tempesti’s evening patrol had been going particularly well. Though a youma had seen fit to interrupt an hour or so earlier, she had dispatched it with relative ease. A decent night’s sleep still eluded her but she’d managed enough hours to be more functional, even if they weren’t always consecutive. A strike that she suspected would blossom into a bruise given time was the only souvenir she carried from that battle, and that was a decided step up from the rewards her recklessness sometimes earned her.

She felt the friendly energy signature before she heard the small voice, pausing only a moment until she registered it as belonging to the Mauvian she’d met a few days earlier. She didn’t sense anything out of the ordinary, but the call for help hastened her pace as she rounded the corner. Rising concern dissolved into relief at the sight of the kitten sitting beside a strange clutch of eggs. Official notices to leave the eggs alone flickered briefly past before she shooed them. “Curiosity killed the cat” was never a phrase she’d enjoyed or agreed with and this situation was no exception. “Hello Cuan, it’s nice to see you again.” The senshi smiled sincerely as she spoke, dropping to a crouch. “What’s going on?”

Keeping her eyes and attention on the eggs, Cuan smiled as she recognized the voice. She couldn’t have predicted the odds of running back into Sailor Tempesti quite this soon, but apparently they were getting better all the time.

“Ah, Tempesti,” she said before tapping a paw near the clutch she was studying. “Wonderful. Tell me, have you encountered anything like this before? If so, I would appreciate any insight you could provide me.”

The kitten couldn’t help it. Something about these things sent shivers down her spine. And the light was fading so quickly now. They didn’t have a lot of time to gather information before it would be too dark for Tempesti to see.

“There’s just something not right about this…,” she murmured, half to herself.

Tempesti looked at the eggs curiously, she’d heard about strange eggs appearing throughout the city but she had no idea if these were the same ones. They certainly looked odd, out of place. Definitely not something she would expect to see on a city street.

“I haven’t seen them before, but I read about things like this showing up in random places. They’re saying to leave them alone, the city I mean, which kind of makes me think that either they carry some weird disease or there’s something else…off about them. No idea what though.” The senshi picked up a small twig a few feet away, telling herself that this was the safest course of action if they actually did have some horrible disease attached to them. Choosing a clutch a few feet away from Cuan, she gave an egg a slightly hesitant poke.

Watching carefully, Cuan considered warning Tempesti against using the tried and true Poke It With A Stick method of scientific research. But, before she could, she heard something within the trees. A sort of rusty, scrapy sound. Like a voice that hadn’t been used in ages. Ears perking, she turned towards the noise and thought she saw something moving in the shadows.
“Erm, Tempesti, dear,” she called hesitantly. “Perhaps, let's not poke at the eggs?”
She would have said more, but a pair of faintly glowing red dots appeared within the shadow, accompanied by a sound you could only get it you combined a diseased werewolf with a sad chicken. Back arching, Cuan turned to face whatever it was fully.
“I believe the mother is here,” she said urgently.

The egg quite rudely refused to give up any of its secrets, though in truth she hadn’t expected to learn much from poking it with a stick. Smashing it open was out of the question, even without the possibility of disease she didn’t want to hurt the birds who laid these clutches. Metallic scraping reached her ears at almost the same time as Cuan’s warning. Grateful for the power of the ears of cats, she whipped around to see the red glow from the darkness, the horrible braying howl raised the hairs on her arms and she struggled to properly make out the strange form. Was there one? Ten? Whatever the case, it didn’t sound friendly.

No thought went into her motions as she stepped between the shadowy figure and the kitten. Whatever this thing was, whether her stick-related examination had provoked it or it was just naturally cranky, she wasn’t about to let it hurt this Mauvian.

Fortunately, being small meant that she was still, mostly, able to see things from between Tempesti’s ankles. And what she saw did not spark joy. If anything, it made her wonder if the Negaverse had begun to experiment normal animals.

Only, much as this thing stank, it was just dirt and sulfur, not Chaos. So, not a youma then? But not a normal bird either. Still… Cuan was hesitant to attack what was most likely a parent just defending their awful, monstrous little children. Or at least she was until the thing slashed out with filthy clawed feet for Tempesti. She felt her sparse fur puff up angrily as she growled and then darted out from behind the senshi, racing for one of the trees. In doing so, she had to also run closely past the angry bird and found herself nearly gagging from the smell.

Making it to the tree, she raced up the trunk to the lowest of the branches. Forehead star seeming to glow, she screeched out, “Move out of the way, Tempesti!”

Then, she fired a beam from her star, but carefully aimed to strike just to the side of the angry chicken monster. She didn’t want to hurt a parent, but she didn’t want it hurting her or the senshi either. And tiny as she was, it made far more sense for her to be a target since she would be harder to see in this dim light. So, she’d see how it reacted to her laser and move accordingly.

An overwhelming smell assailed Tempesti’s nostrils as the entity stepped into view, revulsion mingled with remorse and pity at the sight of the bizarre creature. The thing certainly wasn’t a youma, it seemed to be its own special brand of unnatural. Large, angry, Whatever it was, it did not seem well and she’d only upset it further by tampering with its nest. Of course, those feelings stepped aside (though they lingered on the sidelines) when Cuan made a dash past the enraged fowl. Heart pounding, she followed the Mauvian as closely as she could before the thing took a swipe at her. Though she managed to get her limbs out of the talons’ path it managed to snag one of her long sleeves, pulling her awkwardly forward.

She allowed the fabric to slip from her arm, extricating herself and landing in a gracelessly seated position.

It had never occurred to the senshi that the symbols on Mauvians’ foreheads were anything unlike the markings on regular Earth cats. But then, why would they be? It shouldn’t be a surprise that Cuan was glowing, it shouldn’t be a surprise that as she rolled out of the way the kitten fired some kind of…laser beam.

If monstrous birds could glare daggers, this one certainly did, giving a startled squawk and hopping clumsily out of the path of the laser. Watching from her perch, she decided that this really was just an abnormally large and highly stinky bird. It would have been nice if she could figure out what sort of bird it was, but sometimes, things weren’t easy. It mostly resembled a chicken as viewed through LSD.

Sparing a glance to Tempesti, the kitten was relieved to note that the senshi seemed unharmed. Now, she just had to keep the girl that way. The bird cluck-growled and ran for the senshi. Cuan ran along the branch and jumped, landing atop the bird’s head and sinking her claws into the disgusting feathers for dear life. The stink was overwhelming, but she did her best to ignore it. The kitten clung on and furiously batted a tiny paw into the bird’s face, hissing and screeching.

“You,” batbatbatbat, “leave her alone!” batbatbatbatbat.

She heard a soft crunching sound as the bird stumbled, trying to throw her off. A quick glance revealed that one of the eggs had been trod on and shattered into dust. Well… okay then. At least they hadn’t murdered a bird baby.

The smell was quickly becoming too much and Cuan was in danger of gagging herself into unconsciousness. Using the bird’s face as a launching point, she jumped again, this time landing beside Tempesti. She assumed a hunting crouch, tail lashing the air as her star began to glow again.

She’d wondered once what form Tempesti’s magic took. Part of her mind realized that she might have that question answered tonight and found herself looking forward to the gained knowledge.

Horrified and impressed in equal measure, Tempesti watched in amazement as Cuan clung to the feathery beast, striking with remarkable ferocity for someone so small. As much as she appreciated the Mauvian’s enthusiasm, she would not allow that bird to hurt her. As quickly and gently as she could, she scooped the kitten from the ground, making sure to support her safely as she stepped back.

Noticing the glow on Cuan’s forehead, she shifted her arm to allow her to turn around and fire the laser at will. Teamwork, right? Hopefully this would work with one free arm.

“Harrowing Storm!

The harpies burst forth from behind the senshi, still reliable despite the slight change in routine, their wingbeats bringing wind and lightning down upon the bird and its mercifully empty eggs.

Quote:
Super Sailor Scout Attack: Harrowing Storm

Range -- A circle, 15 feet in diameter and centered on Sailor Tempesti

Duration -- 35 seconds

Uses Per Battle -- 3

Sailor Tempesti raises her arms, bringing forth a group of ethereal harpies. Their wingbeats whip up a powerful, swirling wind crackling with electricity before dispersing it around her, creating a small electrical storm that reduces visibility drastically and stuns enemies within the area of effect.

She hadn’t expected to be scooped up, but Cuan wasn’t going to complain. A higher vantage point meant that she had more options when it came to aiming her forehead beam, after all. Which is precisely what she did once Tempesti shifted her hold. Turning her head slightly, Cuan fired at the bird’s feet, wanting to keep it off balance as Tempesti’s magic did the rest.

And did that magic ever deliver! Cuan would never have expected the girl to summon storm bringing harpies. But here they were and the kitten had no end of satisfaction watching the monstrous bird stumbling this way and that, trying to avoid storm and laser. She watched carefully and saw that the silly creature was stumbling and treading all over its eggs, crushing them underfoot. That every single egg was empty was shocking, but if that meant that she and Tempesti would not be accomplices in murder, she would hold in her surprise.

After a moment, only one or two eggs were left untrampled and the bird seemed to have lost a great deal of its malevolence. It still seemed unhappy with them, but slower to attack now. Clambering from Tempesti’s arms to her shoulder in order to perch. With luck, the bird would go away now that most of its nest had been destroyed.

Tempesti was relieved to see that the remainder of the eggs were empty, even if she still found herself a bit concerned that the bird might still be unhappy about it. She couldn’t exactly blame it for defending its nest after all. And then with a plume of smoke and eruption of stench, the monstrous chicken vanished like a fairytale witch. If not for Cuan and the crushed eggs at her feet, she might have suspected that the whole thing was a hallucination. That neither of them had been eaten or seriously injured by rampaging poultry was definitely a blessing. She gently set the kitten back down, a good distance from the malodorous eggs. “Thanks for the backup!”
