Welcome to the show! We're going to be hosting a little contest for all Misty Mountain newbies to join our little beach bum family.

End time: 7/11/2025 11:00 PM PST

Contest will be judged by Nym and myself.

[Rules]
🐠The game is only for newbies with 2 or less pets in the shop. Companions do not count.
🐳 Judging will focus on the story and how it resonates with us. Writing styles or grammar will not count against players.
🐬 All written entries must be the player's own work. It should go without saying, but any work suspected of using AI will result in disqualification.
🦭 No late or proxy entries will be counted.
🐡 Please avoid any plots where the child gets lost and separated from the family. Te Feti and Mountain are going to be extremely loving parents and will go to the ends of the earth to find any lost child!
🦈 We are going with a Pacific Islander naming convention for the kids. We would love to see the third child keep this convention up, but it's not necessary!

Their parents are Mountain and Te Fiti! Originally starting out as anonymous gift-exchange partners, their bond grew each day as they continued to leave lovingly crafted, homemade gifts and treats for each other. By chance, Mountain arrived at their little ritual site a bit too early, catching Te Fiti off guard and finally coming face-to-face with his mysterious friend. In a panic, Te Fiti fled, rushing back to the safety of her home, where Mountain followed, determined to learn more about her and win her heart.

Slowly, yet surely, Moutain broke down her walls and won Te Fiti over. Their daily exchange continuing - though now face-to-face. Eventually, the two found themselves spending the night together.

A few weeks later, Te Fiti suddenly vanishes. She didn't show up to their daily ritual. Mountain traveled to her home to go check on her, fearing the worst, but she was nowhere to be found.

Though he was sick with worry and dejected at the growing idea that this was her subtle rejection of his advances, Mountain continued to go to their spot every day. Holding out a small glimmer of hope that she would show up.

Finally, his prayers were answered. A familiar scent filled the air, and the sight of the stout female he had fallen for was before him. Yet...there were three other little beings with her. Mewing and crying in confusion about what was going on, their eyes not yet even opened, Mountain realized why she had suddenly disappeared.

They had created together the most precious gifts they could have ever had.

Entry: Kailumi finds that she is the odd child, she feels a little less favored by her parents, a little left out, she's the runt of the litter. She does not despise her siblings for it, her natural state of being is preferring to be by herself. However, this drives her to become independant quickly, becoming a great and wise explorer of Misty Mountains with a great love for the Ocean, her name sake.

The Cub's Name: Makana

Entry: Makana's name means "gift" - and boy, does she know it. Much loved by her parents, Makana is an active, curious cub. Though her parents warn her about the dangers of the beautiful lands she lives in, headstrong Makana often does as she wants (though she does feel bad for worrying her parents and tries not to be too careless).

Splitting her time between the ocean and mountain her parents call home, she loves feeling the water lapping at her feet as she chases her siblings up and down the beach, just as much as climbing the rocks in the mountains in solitude. Though she has a close relationship with her family, Makana can be at times reserved, withdrawing within herself when she is upset or confused.

Makana is stubborn to a fault and wants to find her own life's mission, much like her mother did. She is also fiercely loyal and has a strong sense of justice.

Plot ideas for the future?: It would be interesting to explore sibling dynamics based on each cub's personality. Maybe the parents can teach the cubs how to hunt or some other skill, and the cubs have different reactions/way of attempting it.

Or a family adventure to a faraway land!

We apologize for the delay in judging! Me and Nym had to get together to go over the entries. Thank you both for your entries, we are honored you wanted to join our little family! We enjoyed reading both of your posts and wish we had another baby to give away!

Ultimately, we decided that the winner is....Illusei! Welcome to the ohana! This cub will automatically be a member of the Nani'Kai as a royal cub. They are not required to stay with the Nani'kai once they reach adulthood, however. <3

I will go ahead and post for certs now!

Ah thank you!! What a really lovely surprise to come back to after my trip. My first cub <3

Esp as someone who loves the ocean (and wants to RP more), being part of the Nani'Kai sounds like a lot of fun. I'll take a look at the roles and see how Makana's personality develops.
