Things had been awkward since history class. While she knew that would happen it was worse than she honestly expected it to be. However, probably none of it on his side. Her whispered confession only brought up feelings that she had and hadn't thought about for years. Those first few nights after she dreamed of how things were, and what she wished things could have been. However, she knew that's exactly what they were. Wishes. They lived in the real world, the world that tore people apart for a reason only to throw them back together again. Ironically, he had found her when she got hurt, but it wasn't his fault, again. Their talk had brought up questions she had about her own upbringing, and it certainly didn't help that she had only come up with more questions since then.
So, when she had art class with none other than Mirabella, she was reminded that she had questions for Graham. What was the connection? They both would be able to give her valuable insight into the war and why people did what they did. She knew that Graham wouldn't be able to answer her specific questions about her own nation, but she had gathered quite a few of the books he recommended and read through them as best she could. She was a bookworm, and usually she never liked to leave things unfinished but some of those stories were just cruel. The sheer ability to do things that were so cruel to those around them only because they weren't from the same kingdom or didn't have the same alliances they did. She knew what she didn't want to be like as a ruler now, but she didn't know how to enforce things that needed to be without resorting to such things. She hoped that her parents didn't join in such atrocities, but something told her that they likely had, even if second hand and didn't get their hands dirty. So, she grabbed Graham one day after art class in the hallway, fighting the fact that she knew people were looking at them. Or perhaps they weren't, but she could swear she felt eyes. She asked him to meet her in one of the little lounges in a couple of days after classes, so she'd have time to write up a list of questions for him.
That morning, she had pulled her hair up into an easy style, adding in one of her favorite clips to keep her hair out of her face. Her dress was comfortable, and the sandals were okay since she was remaining inside. She knew that if they were going out, she might be cold but also that they hopefully wouldn't. It had been getting colder outside as of late, and she wasn't a fan of it, Alore tended to be warmer, and she would honestly prefer it that way. She almost didn't wear the necklace she chose to. It honestly wasn't a necklace, if she was honest. She had pulled the box out of the bottom of her things and stared at it closed for a long time. She hadn't looked at this for a while, but something about seeing him again really made her begin to think about it. She cracked it open, the dark blue stone glinting in the light of her room. She wished her hands weren't shaking as she picked it up, but she couldn't lie to herself on that one. She turned it back and forth as she felt her chest tighten. It reminded her of everything that could have been, and she even could picture the matching one that he had for himself. She slid it on her finger and looked at it before she quickly slid it off, but she couldn't put it away, not yet. She grabbed the black chain she had for it from before, looping it on and attaching it behind her neck. She made sure it dipped down in underneath her dress so he wouldn't see it, but the fact that she could still wear it to make her feel better was a relief. She didn't even know if he still had his or she was being a sentimental child for this.
She wasn't about to ask.
Standing she closed the box and put her things away before she grabbed the bag she packed and headed out from her room towards the lounge down the hallway from the library. She knew there were others, but this one was the one she could confirm no one was using. She closed the door behind her softly and set the bag down next to one of the chairs, sinking into the soft material as she sighed. Was this wishful thinking? She shouldn't be wearing the ring. What if he recognized it? Her mind was racing with questions as she tilted her head back and looked up at the ceiling. It was just a ring, maybe he wouldn't even realize what it was even if he saw it? She knew it was unlikely, but she would just try to keep it hidden no matter what. She let out another soft sigh before she leaned forward and pulled out the paper she had written down her questions on, as well as leaving a couple of the books she found herself unable to finish in the bag. Crossing her ankles she closed her eyes and relaxed back, trying to keep breathing calmly, despite knowing she'd be in an enclosed room with the man she had confessed her love to even if he was in another world at the time and didn't hear her.
