He knew she was still mad at him, rightfully so, even if he didn’t want to admit it. But after she left the trailer that day he had been thinking about it. He acknowledged he had been an a**, if only to himself. And now he at least needed to thaw the cold shoulder he was still being presented with.

First and foremost he apologized, both in writing and by leaving a voicemail. Followed by sending her flowers. Lots and lots of flowers. Hell, he had even ordered one of those fruit bouquet things hoping to at least get a smile out of her. Not that he would have seen it since he was still pulling thirteen to fourteen hour days at the construction site now that school was out. The company was getting paid massive amounts of money to do the job as fast, but as perfectly, as possible. No corners could be cut and only the best materials. Ben was starting to feel like experts and inspectors were crawling out of the a** some days. It was obnoxious that was for sure. But that paycheck… now that made it all worth it.

If he didn’t spend his personal pay on flowers that is.

And yet, even with the rush job, the site was going to be quiet that weekend. Work-life balance and all that. It also didn’t help that several things needed inspection and no one was going to be inspecting on a holiday weekend without getting paid out the a**. And some new concrete needed time to cure. So he had the day off and was putting it to good use. Or was planning too. He just hoped he wasn’t in the deep freeze.

Abby could see that Ben was actually trying, which was nice.

However, she still wasn't sure if truly forgave him just yet, but it was a start.

Her father was a bit suspicious at all the flowers she had been receiving, but she wasn't inclined to explain because it really wasn't any of his business. Her mother, on the other hand, thought that the whole gesture was romantic, and practically sang Ben’s praises anytime a new bouquet arrived. Speaking of her mother, “Abby, when is Bennett going to stop by? We haven't seen him in quite a bit.” Her daughter rolled her eyes and crossed her leg while she continued to read her book. “Whenever he does, mother. Why don't you invite him over since you want to see him so much?” It was her father’s turn to speak, “Aberdeen…Tone.” She sighed, “Sorry, mother. A bit peckish.”

With that, she lifted herself from her chair, putting her book up and heading to her room, pulling out her phone. Given the fact that her mother wanted to see him so badly, and she still owed him for the print he left on the back of her dress, Abby finally responded to his text.

Are you busy, Ben?

Another reason why he hasn't been over was work, which her mother didn't seem to understand, but that is what happens when you're a pampered lady.

He had just pulled up into her folks driveway after being let in the gate when the text came through. Rather than reply Ben just hopped out of his truck and made his way to the front door and knocked, figuring he would surprise her when she opened the door.

He surprised someone that was for sure since it was Abby’s mother who opened the door. Ben smiled and offered her one of the flowers from the bouquet he was holding. It only took a moment for him to get the older woman on board with surprising Abby, the frown from her father was a bit harder to bypass but the spunky woman shushed her husband before hustling Ben up towards Abby’s room. “Don’t have too much fun,” She whispered with a wink before disappearing back into the house.

The young man just watched her leave slightly bemused before turning to knock on Abby’s bedroom door. He had come bearing an eclectic seeming bundle of flowers. One that had a ‘hidden’ meaning. Of all the flowers he had delivered these were the most ‘abnormal’. A bouquet that all meant ‘I’m sorry.’ Ben knew that Abby wouldn’t know that but he also figured the mix of blooms would also stand out from the more conventional flowers that he had been sending the last few days.

Since he didn't answer her text, Abby decided to practice a bit of her routine in her room, changing into something lighter while she stretched and warmed up. She was just getting into starting her routine when there was a knock at her door. Figuring it was one of her parents, Abby opened the door with a huff, “You know I went to my room for a--” oh….That wasn't a parent, they only gave her flowers at her shows.

Which meant…

The small blonde looked up, tilting her head. “Hello, Ben. Nice of you to not answer my text.” She sighed since that was….Very bitchy and not what she actually meant to say. “S-Sorry….” She sighed and moved out of the way to let him in, closing the door behind her. Blue eyes stared at the flowers he held, “For me?” She would have to add the bouquet to the rapidly growing collection she already had.

The door opened and while he wasn’t expecting an enthusiastic greeting he didn’t exactly expect the acid dipped comment. Ben just raised a brow when she quickly apologized before letting him in. Of course he took the silent offer and stepped into her room before passing her the strange bundle of flowers. “Hyacinth to ask for forgiveness, bluebell for humility, peony for bashfulness, dahlia for commitment, columbine for foolishness, rue for regret, forget-me-not to say ‘I won’t forget again’, and an olive branch to ask for peace.” He gently brushed a finger against each bloom as he explained. “All the flowers that have arrived were meant to apologize but these, these actually say it with each flower.”

He sighed and took a step away, “I’m sorry Abby. Everything happened so damn fast and I couldn’t wrap my head around it. I still haven’t,” Ben moved because he had to, starting to pace back and forth. “I hadn’t really understood just how dangerous everything was before it happened. And then… faced with nothing. Faced with that…” He came to a stop and turned to face her, “I need to come to terms with it, by myself, before I can really share.” He couldn’t, wouldn’t, subject anyone else to the thoughts and memories and nightmares that were haunting him. He just wouldn’t.

“So I’m sorry. I’m sorry I didn’t tell you. I’m sorry I lashed out. And I’m sorry that you got hurt.” Ben didn’t give out apologies on whims, he would rather correct the issue and move on, but he was aware that part of fixing this particular problem was to make amends. “And I know I’ve been busy but I promise I will do my best to be better at that.”

She listened intently as Ben explained each flower and its meaning, intrigued and ... .Touched. She didn't know that Ben was into the meaning behind flowers [she honestly couldn't see him as the type but she was pleasantly surprised], and that was something she could ask him about later, maybe even learn a bit herself. Holding the bouquet with a fondness, Abby was about to speak when Ben continued. She waited patiently while he apologized, frowning with concern. She would wait for him to speak about his experience when he was ready. For now, she brought the flowers to her nose to smell them, hiding the smile she wore behind the plants.

“I forgive you, Ben.”

Before he could see the smile, she quickly turned and moved to place the flowers in an empty vase her mother got her just in case she received any more flowers. Once they were safe, she turned to face Ben with a smile on her face. “I promise I will do my best to be better as well and…Maybe less of a brat.”

Quote:
He grinned when she accepted his apology and that smile only grew bigger when she made her promise, his eyes taking on a bit more of a feral glint. “Oh, I don’t know Princess… sometimes it's a pleasure seeing you get all bratty.” And so much more ‘after’.

Ben started to take a few steps forward only to stop short, looking down at his fiance. “Let's go on a date, right now.” He already had everything planned, it just hinged on her forgiving him. He reached a hand out to her, “Besides… there are a few too many people in this house right now.”
