[ takes place while Casimir and Calliana are still younglings ]
(1/7)
In the end, after the revelation of their pregnancy, Morain and Kani had decided NOT to hurry. They continued on their sedate pace north, and it was a little over a week before they arrived at the capitol of Belrea, hitching a ride on a cart of produce from the fields south of the city. Morain was... NOT fussing over his future bride, although if you asked Kani that she probably would give a different answer.
Siel had helpfully written down their parents' "address" for Morain and, now, he pulled the letter from his bag to squint at it, comparing it to a city map he'd had to pay a few coins for at a shop just inside the city gates. Belrea was like Oba, it seemed - large with living quarters stacked atop one another like crates. It still took a bit of effort to find where their family was living, but once he and Kani stumbled on a placard showing the unique street name from the letter, Morain was relieved to realize they'd found them.
He ducked close to kiss Kani's cheek, meeting her eyes with a reassuring grin, then held her hand as the other rose to rap at the door. "Papa! Baba!"

Morain had said he was coming to visit, and yet the letter saying so had come weeks ago. Nimueh reread it every so often, just to make sure he hadn't imagined it, but no... there it was, saying he was coming to see them. But he supposed after the silence they'd received from him after Morain left home, explained away as an incident with the 'mail' in Morian's letter, Morain's time awareness (or lack thereof) at least wasn't news.
Siel and Lutana had both been amused, if indignant, in their letters explaining the situation. But at the very least they'd been able to visit with their brother and confirm he still had all his limbs attached. ... If their letters were to be believed, he actually might be coming home with a companion, too.
Nimueh set the letter down and sighed as he looked back towards the smaller bedroom. The twins were inside playing, older than Tsisia and Quetzal but still too little to reliably speak. He'd just stood to go check on them in their play area when a knock erupted at the door - followed by a familiar, jovial voice. Nimueh brightened up and went for the door instead, opening it. "Morain! And... Kani?" Siel had helpfully provided her name. She was pretty, a petite and darker colored Matori lass with a sweet face. Nimueh hoped the fact he was big enough to need to stoop a little in the door frame didn't scare her. "Come in - the twins are awake so no need to be quiet." He looked at Morain with raised eyebrows, since the boy had already risked that by shouting and knocking.

Callum - 1
Consistent communication wasn't a trait Callum would have associated with their family. So many of his descendants had a propensity to see the world and all it's wonder, leaving it more than difficult to track anyone down when news needed to be shared. It should have worried him more - not knowing where his children were - but Callum's own upbringing had erased all of that. He'd been born a nomad in Sauti and even now, well into his golden years, those teachings hadn't left him. So, now that his children were growing, who was he to tell them to put down roots?
The letters they'd received about Morain's adventures hadn't surprised him in the least. Missed missives, delayed couriers, a zest for travel - Chi, but it was exciting, wasn't it? Like the sort of messes he and Nim had gotten into in their youth...
Callum lowered the drying cloth in his hand and turned toward the door. He'd been in the process of cleaning up a late breakfast, but...hastily, he sat the pot to the side and stepped just out of the kitchen, peeping his head out of the doorway so he could look toward the front. If it was that nosey landlady looking for rent he was prepped to hide.

Kani partially ducked behind Morain as one of his fathers, was this papa or baba she could never remember, opened the door and lingered. She had unfortunately been a bit moodier these last few weeks, she was going to chalk that up to her fluctuating hormones, and now finally arriving at their destination to meet his fathers made her incredibly nervous. Kani had insisted on bringing gifts once more, anxiously holding them out in front of her as some form of offering for being allowed in their home. "Ah yes, hello. I am Kani," she reiterated, bowing her head towards the much taller man as she chanced stepping out from behind Morain. "My apologies for our late arrival. It is my fault really. I hope these teas and treats for the children will make up for it."Would it be wise to just say why? She wasn't sure. Kani didn't know if Morain had gotten the chance to really inform them before their arrival either. Her mind still raced at the idea that something would go wrong and they would dislike her, but she was trying to be good.

Morain had done all he could to convince Kani that she had nothing to worry about. But his reassurances fell on deaf ears and, as they approached the capitol, she'd been insistent on searching for the perfect gifts for his family. He'd ultimately resigned himself to the fact she wouldn't believe him on this until she met his dads, and saw just how relaxed they really were. How they'd LOVE her.
He just poked her gently in the side at her refined manners, and guided her inside, looking around the place appreciatively. It wasn't like the little home they'd had in Yael, when he left on his adventure, but it was nice and comfy. The twins must love it here, he thought.
"She's really excited to meet you, so be nice." Morain said, loudly, face brightening when he saw the flash of white in the doorway that was his papa. "Papa, come meet Kani! She's the love of my life." He moved closer to her, looping his arm loosely around her waist. "The big guy is my baba, Nimueh- he's who I got my dashing looks from!" He fluttered his eyelashes at her, over the top in hopes it would make her crack a smile or a giggle.
"And that's my papa Callum! He taught me how to actually use those dashing looks."

(2/7) Hah. And the boy didn't even blink an eye at his loud arrival. Nimueh smiled anyway, only to make a noise of surprise when Kani moved forward, shy and polite to a fault. He looked towards the doorway where Callum was loitering, bemused, then back to Kani as he accepted the gifts, moving out of the way so they could both come further inside. " Not to worry, Kani. I think my husband and I are resigned to our son's tardiness." He plucked a small jar of tea leaves from the bundle of gifts and gave them a sniff, humming in approval. " Take a seat, and I'll heat some of the tea you graciously brought for us." Yes, he still had the manners his adopted mothers had drilled into him, when he still thought he'd grow up to be a merchant.

Callum - 2
"Oh!" Callum hastily ducked back to the kitchen and fluffed his hair. Without a proper mirror he did his best by feel and when he thought time might be stretching a little too long the hybrid came back out to greet them. A few errant curls draped around his face, though more caught on the feathers decorating his shoulders. Not that he seemed to notice; if anything Callum was more concerned with the newcomer.
He raised a hand to wave at Kani as he stepped closer to his husband with a bemused smile. "What Morain actually means is that whatever trouble he gives you he learned it from me." When he got close enough to Nimueh he tossed the taller man a wicked grin. "Right, love?" He bumped his hip against Nim's before motioning toward Kani and Morain. "Come on, I'm eager to meet the woman who stole my son's heart."

Ah. Kani now connected the dots as to where Morain got his habits from. Mister Nimueh so far had been calm and relatively gentle. The arrival of Mister Callum in contrast reminded her very much of how Morain was with her. A bit flirtatious, very friendly and eager to speak. It helped her to relax a bit more, hands trying not to settle awkwardly in any spot that would draw attention to herself. "Well there isn't too much about me worth knowing. Until I met Morain I was very stationary, and well now I travel with him. I am very fond of him," Kani attempted to explain, looking over at Morain before glancing back at his fathers.

Morain waited until Callum joined them, then guided Kani by a hand at the small of her back towards their sitting area. Everything in Belrea was so focused on saving space, but the little apartment still had a small loveseat, and chairs with somewhat worn upholstered backs that looked fancy, but were probably recycled from an old home. "Don't listen to her!" He exclaimed, "Kani is brave and loving; she set out all on her own to explore the world, just like you did when you were younger! I bet you both would have some great suggestions on parts of the world that we should go see, someday."
He ducked down to kiss Kani's cheek, then carefully sat his and Kani's bags (which he'd been carrying) on the floor behind the seat. Only then did he finally perch on the cushion beside her, head swiveling to look between Kani and Callum as Nimueh left to make the tea.
In his eyes, whenever he looked at Kani, was an excited question, but one he didn't want to voice aloud in case she wasn't quite ready to talk about It yet.

(3/7) The temptation was there to hide in the kitchen with Callum for a moment, maybe to make the tea while they talked. But he could tell, with this young lady, that it would be a miscalculation - bless her, but she seemed nervous. Nimueh instead waited, holding the gifts in the circle of his arm, while Callum primped until he was up to his satisfaction, then looked to him, exasperated but fond, when he finally emerged. " That... is an understatement." Nimueh agreed, with dry amusement, dipping down to briefly kiss the top of Callum's curls. Morain was doing quite a bit to sell Kani to them, which was unnecessary but did make Nimueh curious. " Ah-hah. So, to be clear, you were already traveling when you and Morain met? He did not lure a sweet girl like you into the nomadic life?" He asked, quietly amused as he went to heat up a kettle in the other room. Their apartment was small enough he could still hear them, and call back to them, but he did leave their line of sight for a moment as he tended to the gift Kani had brought.

Callum - 3
"Don't sell yourself short, Kani. It's a brave thing to go to a new land, and from Siel's letters you've already visited him, now you're here. I'd say that makes you pretty worth knowing." Maybe it was a little sappy of him, but just watching the two of them was cute. The looks they passed between each other and the way Morain doted on Kani - If Nimueh were closer he might have pinched his husband or tapped his shoulder.
Callum took a seat by the doorway on a little stool and crossed one leg over the other as he leaned back against the wall. Even now in his older years he couldn't get used to plush furniture; he must preferred harder chair and, when socially acceptable, the ground. "Nim, you're making him sound creepy." Callum laughed. "Plus, what's there to sell? A travelers life is clearly the best!"

Kani flushed at the attention, hands wringing together in her lap as she listened to the family discuss with each other. Their teasing relationship was refreshing, far different than the relationship she had with her own family. It was nice, comfortable, something she was glad to be apart of. "There is uhm....something more we wanted to share. Besides just my meeting you both."She looked to Morain a moment more, reaching over to squeeze his hand with her own shaky one before taking a breath. "This was certainly not planned, but uhm welcome all the same. I do also hope you can accept me being around well forever. S-since I am - we....kids," she fumbled out, covering her face more as she struggled to get the words out.
