Raven was breathing much more easily since Jett had told her that the danger was gone. The trip had gone well, a few hours out of the city, with a mirror hidden in the trunk of the car, covered with the overlay that hid the spare tire. Honestly, it was a set up that she wished she had thought of earlier, and was going to keep in the car just in case something like this ever happened again.
Knowing the state of the world. The universe. Something like this very well could happen again.
Chloe and Elosie were spending one more night with Grandma, and honestly, Raven had been a little pleased that Charmaine was willing to keep them one more night.
It wasn’t often that she got a chance to just spend time with Jett…and she was excited for it.
Honestly, with their track record of past…issues…
Raven chuckled and unlocked the front door, her suitcase behind her and two large bags filled with things from Tennessee in her hands.
“Hey! I’m home. Kids are staying with your mom tonight, I hope that’s okay.”

Jett was in the kitchen, which wasn't his favorite place to be but they had to eat so it required some extra work every now and then. He couldn't order takeout every night. He was standing over the stove, lazily sauteing some beef and onion.
"Oh, yeah. I know, Mom sent me a selfie with the girls already. I think they're baking cookies."
The food would be fine without his watchful eye for a moment so he pried himself away from the stove and made his way to the front door to greet her properly.
"How was it, did you have a good drive?" he asked, and while he seemed ready to help her with the bags, he also leaned in for a kiss.

“The drive was fine, a lot easier coming home than leaving, I’m glad that everything was able to get sorted out.” Raven leaned up, pressing her lips to Jett’s, feeling safe, and feeling the last bit of tension and stress drain out of her knowing that it was over. One of these days, the nearly world ending catastrophes were going to cause her to go fully gray and start to really wrinkle, and that just.
Well, that just wouldn’t do.
“You’re all good, right? Nothing’s hurt, nobody’s broken…we didn’t lose anyone, did we?” The court was still important to her, not as much as her family was but, still. It mattered. Immensely.
“I’m happy to be home, and even more happy to see you, just so you know.”

“No, no,” Jett reassured, placing one hand at her back like he meant to rub out any tension she’d gathered there during the drive. But one hand wasn’t enough, so soon he had both hands at her back, working his fingers gently from shoulder to hip and back again. “I don’t think we lost anyone. A few people got roughed up, but I’m keeping my eye on things.”
He couldn’t be everywhere at once but he did his best. He didn’t think it was worth it to get into the trivial details.
Everyone was alive, so far as he knew. Everything else remained to be seen.
“I’m happy to have you home. Dinner will be ready in a bit, are you hungry? I can run you a bath and bring it in when I’m finished.”

“That’s a relief. And Jett, you’ll run a bath for me and deliver the food? My, my. I’m the luckiest woman in the world…”
Raven gave a little laugh and batted her eyelashes. “I know I wasn’t…involved this time, but are you trying to continue the tradition that we started every time there was something earth shattering going on? Because, I am not opposed.”
It wasn’t the complete reason that she left the kids with grandma but…it wasn’t not part of the reason either.
“It sounds nice, the bath but if you wouldn’t mind, I’d rather just spend some more time in here with you, I really did miss you. But I hope that’s not a surprise.”

Jett scoffed at her suggestion, but he leaned forward to kiss her and comb his fingers through her hair. “Of course it’s not a surprise, I’m wonderful. I’m very good company, and a perfectly charming husband. Naturally, you’d want to spend more time with me.”
He leaned back slightly and stroked her cheek fondly. “Later, then. We’ll see if your muscles start protesting once you’ve had some time to get used to being out of a car seat. If you don’t want to relax, come help me cook.”
There was plenty of room in the kitchen. He hooked an arm around her waist as if he meant to guide her there, but it was doubtful he had any intention of actually making her work.
“You can tell me all the ways you missed me, if you like,” he teased.

“All the ways I’ve missed you, hm? I tell you, some of those will be better with me showing you rather than just telling you.” Raven was grinning and allowed him to pull her. “I have quite a list, so we should perhaps try to eat quickly.”
This was nice though, and she helped she was making it clear just how much she was enjoying their flirting.
“You aren’t wrong though. You are absolutely perfect company and the most charming husband any woman or man could ask for, I maintain that I am absolutely the most lucky person in the world.”
Okay but maybe she wouldn’t actually help cook. If she could get away with simply being pressed up against Jett while he did the work?
