Tsisia still wasn't sure how she'd gotten involved in this. Her family had been all set to bid her Grandfathers farewell before continuing on the last leg of their journey to visit her Aunts' when someone odd had shown up. She supposed they didn't have to stick around, but something in the way Baba had looked at Granbaba Nim told her all she needed. They'd be here for at least another day or two, which meant someone had to watch the boys while her parents were preoccupied.
So, the elder children had drawn sticks to see who would babysit the boys and who would have a couple hours of freedom.
She'd gotten Tadhg.
She found him by a tidepool - with water logged short pants and his eyes set on something she couldn't see. "What are you looking at?"

With his toes wiggling against the slick stones beneath him, Tadhg dipped down as close to the water as he could. He focused on a little shape moving beneath the water - something was there, something with pinchies. Every time he reached for it the little thing slipped back into it's hiding spot and caused him to frown.
When he heard his sister moving closer he didn't even look up to her. "I don't know. I've never seen one before, but it's fast." Maybe Baba or Mama would know? All he had to do was drag it out...

When Casimir drew the stick to watch the kids, baba had given him a long, worried look that filtered past the usual ignorant bliss that he lived in. He wasn't... stupid, okay? A little air-headed sure, but Casimir wasn't going to play with his knives or fire or anything like that around actual kids, and having his baba delicately ask him before he left stung more than he had expected it to.
So he was trying, really hard, to engage with ... the kid - but was hitting a bit of a wall so far. "You think you and Ares could catch it together?" Casimir suggested, voice pitched up in the way adults (or in this case, teens) did when they thought they were suggesting something slyly to a little kid.

(1/7) Ares traveled with his mom a lot, but never this far out - never through OBA. When the sahara of Tale fell to the desert and his mama covered him up in a traveling cloak to avoid sunburn, he'd bounced with excitement and eagerness to see the place his grandma had talked about - the place that was echoed in some ways in the family inn he'd been working at. Instead, they blasted through Oba and went to the boonies of Matori, and if that wasn't bad enough - they were here to meet with HIM. Ares decided he hated it. Hated Matori; hated the ocean, and especially hated the stupid man his mom called his 'brother', and the family of other hybrids who looked nothing like him. And then his mom just... left him with them! " Why, can we eat it if we do?" Ares responded snidely, resisting the urge to stomp his foot in the tide pool just to scare it off for good. Only the gentle scolding in his head from his dad telling him to be nice, or Uncle Eurig's lessons on manners, kept him from doing so.

By that point Tadhg had gotten used to Casimir being around and was comfortable being himself around his Uncle. So, when he saw him getting closer he smiled and started to nod his head until he saw Ares.
He'd been told that this boy - who was barely older than himself - was a Great-Uncle? What made him a better Uncle than Cas? He didn't seem very great at anything. Unless you counted scowling and being a general party pooper.
"No". He curled his nose. "If we catch it we're going to play with it; not eat it."

The teen caught onto Casimir's inflection and snickered. "Aww, come on now," She said, mimicking Cas' tone as she knelt down closer to the boys' level. "Let's try to get along, okay? Maybe we can find something you both like doing." Her smile was as fake as a paper diamond, but Tsisia didn't care.
What she did care about was explaining why they both had black eyes after the two ended up in a fist fight. The last thing she wanted was to get blamed for not watching them properly.
"Maybe you two can work together to lure it out. Think you can handle it?"

Casimir looked at Tsisia and raised an eyebrow at her overdone tone - only to realize, a moment later, that it was the same one he'd been using. He scoffed and gestured with his head in the same exaggerated way an earthling would when rolling their eyes. Challenging them to work together was a smart idea though.
"C'mon, if we can't play this together we'll have to find something we ALL like."

(2/7) Ares glowered at the older kids, but moved to squat down a few paces from Tadhg, staring at the little thing the smaller boy was so obsessed with. "I think it'll like us playing with it about as much as us eating it." He informed him with a rude grin. " My mom says we should just leave animals alone, unless they're useful to us. That's speckful."

"Sooo what if we leave it alone, then? We could still explore the tide pools or see what's in the reef?" She didn't like popping her younger brother's enthusiasm, but Ares had a point. He was a little prissy about it, but still.
"Or we could have a race on the beach. I like all kinds of games so what do you want to do?"

Tadhg gave Ares a withering look. He wished the other boy would just go away if he wasn't going to be fun. I wish Asterix were here instead... Or any of his older siblings. Even his Aunt Calli!
"Your mom sounds like a fun sucker," He murmured. "Finnnnne. What do YOU want to do?" The question was posed as much to the group as it was to the other kid, but that tone, the exasperated bratty one, was entirely for Ares.

Casimir elbowed Tsisia and chuckled, thinking back to their ball game from just a few days before. "Maybe lets stay away from competitive games?" He said in a lowered tone, gesturing with a hand between Ares and Tadhg. And, of course, Tsisia herself, though Casimir wasn't dumb enough to accuse her of it directly.
"There's lots to explore, and everyone is gonna leave here soon, so exploring sounds fun, right guys?"

(3/7) Ares shrugged a shoulder, but he looked towards Tsisia with a thoughtful expression that looked starkly different to his usual broody one. He'd decided he hated the ocean but... the tide pools, and 'reef' sounded interesting at least...? Well, that was lucky that the kid had come around, and that the older kids were actually letting Ares suggest ideas. His mom usually tried to get him and his sister to decide together, but sometimes other moms would suggest they did whatever the LITTLEST kids wanted to do. Which would just get them stuck staring at fish again. Ugh! Boring! His eyes narrowed and his smile went wicked and dangerous at the lowered mumbling from his... cousin? Nephew? Random child on the beach? " I dunno, I think a race sounds fun!" He said, cheerfully, his smile all teeth and manic energy.

Tsisia narrowed her eyes on Cas before rolling them with a half-smile. He had a point but she didn't have to like it. She didn't pick up on what her brother was saying, but she did notice a little shift in Ares. Why was he smiling like that? What -?
"A race might be a little rough out here. The sands really hot and it's really rocky on this side of the beach." Ares was bigger, Tadhg was more used to running after larger siblings; it wouldn't end well. She could see it unfolding in front of her and gave a side glance to Cas.

"Yeah, everyone's leaving soon so why shouldn't we?" Tadhg climbed out of the tide pool and stood as straight as he could. The thought of losing or being baited hadn't occurred to him; those sorts of thoughts rarely did. He was a simple boy with a simple mind and he wanted to simply win.
"Maybe you can race Uncle Casimir, Tsi-Tsi?" Turning away from the older kids, he looked directly at Ares. "You ready?"
