After the last interrupting during his route, Okenite tried to play it a bit safer by wearing his long coat over his uniform, maybe that might help as he lightly touched and drained people while walking through the crowd of those heading home after a long night at work.

It was much later than he liked to be out, considering he would still have to teach classes in the morning, but he was still getting the hang of the responsibilities that were required of his second job. It paid more, but he couldn't just quit at DCU since he needed more references for when he put in for research grants.

Sitting down on a bench, next to someone engrossed in some sort of podcast or music as they ate, he went to work draining them under the guise of putting his briefcase on the bench. With how many people were busily hurrying home, he knew he looked unassuming enough to hopefully not get bothered.

The hard part was focusing without making it look like that was what he was doing; it still showed on his face as he pulled energy off the man, his eyes sweeping the area for anyone who might attack him like last time. He needed to be ready to run because, honestly, he liked the pa,y but he wasn't about to get killed over it.

Tempesti’s patrol had been mercifully uneventful, as had many of her most recent excursions. Aside from the few youma who had charged into her path, the past few weeks had felt almost as though the universe knew she needed a break, or as close to a break as she would allow herself. There was still so much to do, after all. The distinctive sensation of an unfriendly energy signature tossed a bucket of cold water onto her musings. Whatever she might want, she needed to stay alert. Now more than ever, especially knowing what was out there. A light tap on her head with her index finger to banish the dread for another few minutes or hours. After all, if there was a more immediate danger now was the time to address it.

Following the nagging sense of wrongness she found herself staring at a young man seated on a bench, the odd expression on his face hinting that his otherwise nonchalant demeanor might be a ruse. She hoped it was or she would look a bit insane as she made her way over to him, making an effort to appear as calm as she possibly could while leaving the civilian to draw his own conclusions about her outfit.

“So,” she looked the agent up and down briefly, “I think we’re running a bit late. We should get going.” the senshi jerked her head in the direction of a less populated area and hoped that he would take the cue. She didn’t want to fight so close to an unwitting innocent.

Okenite stiffened as he both felt and saw the senshi woman moving closer. If she was anything like the other one, he needed to be ready for whatever weird magic was going to hit him. Wincing preemptively, knowing something might come at him even though he was sitting next to someone, he really wasn't looking forward to whatever damage would be done as his legs were still sore from the muck and rock he'd had to get through to escape the last time.

But even after they were standing right in front of him, far closer than the other one had gotten before attacking, nothing had slammed into him yet. At first, he didn't acknowledge her, fumbling as the orb of energy dissipated when he lost his focus on the task. Moving his hands to seem like he was just smoothing his suit over, he couldn't help but be nervous still around what felt like a powerful enemy. More and more, it seemed like his luck with this job was turning out badly.

But then they spoke and directed him to move, leaving him looking down at his briefcase for a moment before looking up sheepishly. "Oh... are we?" He questioned as he hesitated on moving at first. At least if he was near a civilian, maybe this one wouldn't flat out attack him, and he wasn't really looking for giving them an opportunity to corner him.

Part of him hoped that if he didn't move or didn't really react that they might move along and think they were mistaken since his weapon really ended up helping him look like a corporate drone.

The man’s wince didn’t go unnoticed and she felt a blip of pity before reminding herself that he was most likely leeching energy from the civilian beside him, though she couldn’t say how much worse for wear his target was. She didn’t exactly want to hurt the Chaos agent, but if he refused to take his…business elsewhere she might have no choice.

“I’m afraid so, I’m well aware that your work can be draining.” Her eyes flicked pointedly toward the briefcase she suspected was his weapon. Or the container for his weapon at least. She wondered if she could swipe it, she suspected that it would just teleport back to him. Forcing as much boldness and she could manage, Tempesti rested her hand lightly but firmly on his shoulder, encouraging him to stand. “But we really should be going.” Hopefully he wouldn’t be interested in using this civilian as a human shield.

Another slight flinch as they mentioned draining, and he followed her attention to the briefcase on his lap. The person next to him yawned slightly but otherwise was in their own little world, which would normally be alright with him, but he desperately wanted someone to step in and convince this senshi not to bother him.

But when they placed their hand on his shoulder, he froze for a moment, every muscle tensing as he knew this wasn't going to end well. "I-I see." While she was bold, he was very much not and moved slowly to stand. Casting a glance at the person next to him, they paid him no mind, and he wondered if he could run without getting hit with some sort of magic.

Keeping both hands on the handle of his briefcase, he held it tightly and looked towards the area she had focused on them both moving to. There wasn't anyone else over there, and it felt more secluded, which meant it could go very badly for him.

"Where to?" Keeping his eyes focused down at his hands, he tried to focus to see if he could tell if anyone else was around. It wasn't something he was really good with yet, but he needed to get better at it to try avoiding this situation he seemed to keep finding himself in.

She tried to hide the relief she felt when the agent came with her without a fuss. She didn’t actually want to hurt the man but she couldn’t in good conscience leave him alone to drain that civilian.

“Just over here.” To her great embarrassment her voice wobbled slightly. Without removing her hand from his shoulder she turned her head slightly to the side, concealing the slight twitch she felt in her lips. Most of her experience was in fighting youma, and that was difficult enough for her. She could feel the agent’s energy signature, it wasn’t quite as strong as hers and that fact made her stomach churn with preemptive remorse. Repeated reminders that she had to protect people unequipped to fight back were the only thing driving her forward toward the narrow alley she’d seen earlier.

Right. Dragging someone weaker than her into an alley to potentially seriously injure them. She was fine with that. Definitely fine. Not at all horrified.

“I’m sorry.” She couldn’t stop the apology spilling from her lips. “I just…can’t look the other way.” In a split second decision, she called forth the weaker of her two attacks. Maybe it was a sign of her own weakness, but she could deal with that later.

“Bitter Blast!

Wind and lightning whipped up around them as the harpies flew toward him.

If her voice wobbled, he didn't notice as he tried to plan a way to run if he could. She was stronger than him he could that, but he didn't know what sort of magic thing she had.

When she let go, he had a moment to blink in confusion at the apology before he felt very uncomfortable with the wind picking up. If it were another sort of natural disaster thing, he needed to be ready to run, but the appearance of harpies had him confused.

Swinging his briefcase at her, he didn't pay much attention to how hard he hit, but just the fact that it might keep her from grabbing him as he bolted back out of the alley. His legs burned, almost like he'd already run a mile but he just sucked in a hissing breath as he kept going until he was sure he couldn't feel her around anymore.

It wasn't very heroic, but he didn't take the job offer to be a hero; he just needed the funds for his research. So if he needed to run to make sure he didn't get caught or in trouble with those about Lavendulan, he saw no problem with that.
