History
Childhood
Illapha and Tavihe met as sailors upon the Whispering Witch, a pirate vessel with less than enviable leadership. A relationship born of physical attraction, it wasn't long before they were 'blessed' with a pregnancy. Unfortunately, the leader of the ship (it's complicated) made no secret of how lucrative she saw the trade of children, and especially hybrids, and so Tavihe fled in order to raise the children in safety, urged on by Illapha.
With the support of the Captain Xenia (a hostage of the ship who Illapha and Tavihe had become allies of in planning a future mutiny) and her allies, Tavihe was supported monetarily and given access to safe places to stay - while Illapha remained on the ship, visiting when he safely could.
So, in short, Senja grew up with her twin brother Volcavius and her biological parent Tavihe, moving from place to place. Tavihe was an... untraditional parent in that they were more hands off, seeing themselves as successful as a parent as long as the kids were fed, housed, and happy. Education and stability were much less important in their opinion, as was being a good role model legally speaking.
Still - thanks to Xenia's and Illapha's support, the kids never wanted for anything, and even got to see their dad from time to time.
