follows hunter's luck

Proposing that she and the handsome alien Senshi--Achird, he'd said his name was--patrol together for a bit was probably the best idea Karakorum had ever had. Or, at least, it was the idea that had her spending more time with a hot alien, which made it good as far as she was concerned.

Even if it was a little hard to make conversation, as the night stretched on and no more youma appeared.

"So..." She scuffed her foot briefly on the ground, trying to decide what the best way to make the inquiry was, "how are you...finding Earth? Settling in?"

Oh, that sounded dumb. Oh well, she'd asked, she was committed. "...How long have you been here? Because if you're a recent arrival, I swear we don't have apocalypses all the time, tonight was weird."

Achird was enjoying the company of the pretty Squire. Something about her intrigued him. Something deeper than just "good distraction" from the night he'd had. Though she was fulfilling that purpose perfectly.

Her slow question made him snort with mild amusement, shaking his head a little. "I've been here a little over a year," he explained. "It's... Well, it's..."

He paused, not really sure how to explain.... Anything. "I've been living with this senshi who took me in. And frankly, Earth is messed up," he said bluntly. "Hiding who we are, whether it's Knight or Senshi or alien Senshi—" he gestured to his ears "—it's aggravating. I can't go to the bloody doctor with an ear infection if I got one! And the smog."

Sighing exasperatedly, he gestured to the asphalt roads. "These stink when it rains. The parks around here are nice, sure, but there is a severe lack of forest."

Realizing he'd just been ranting, he stopped abruptly and coughed lightly into his fist. "Well. Ah. The museums are fascinating," he offered lamely as a positive observation. "It's refreshing to see people honoring history."

Well, at least he wasn't mocking her or anything. That was nice, because if a hot guy had made fun of her tonight, after her brother and his stupid alien had acted like it was so beneath her or whatever to hit on Shuangxu's friend, she was pretty sure her ego would pop like a balloon.

She was just a girl who maybe wanted to be as alive as possible after almost dying at the end of the world, nbd.

So she nodded along with Achird's complaints, looking as sympathetic as possible. And to be fair? Nothing he was saying was exactly outrageous, and she did sympathize with a lot of it.

"Yeah, people here....they don't know about magic. Most of them probably wouldn't believe it if they saw it right in front of their faces. So there's a lot we have to hide. My brother's a Knight, too, and the rest of our family has no idea." And as far as she cared, they never would have any idea. Eugh.

"I'm sorry it's been so hard for you. But Earth does have nice things, too. Like you said, museums. Pretty cool." She smiled, moving over to him, and if she shifted a little so certain assets were accented, that was totally reasonable, she thought. "Are you into history? It's not really my thing," unless she was playing or reading a historical otome or BL, but that was totally aside, "but I know it's all super interesting."

Achird sighed, giving her a sympathetic look as she explained her family would never know about herself and her brother... Actually, that would have been nice for him a thousand years ago, but there was no getting around it, back then. And now he had no family to worry about. He bit his tongue briefly at the thought, refocusing on the conversation.

On the way Karakorum was getting closer, and almost... presenting herself. A shiver ran down his spine and his breathing quickened unconsciously. He forced his eyes back upward when he realized what she was doing. What he was looking at.

"History was never my best subject," he admitted, "But after reading up on some of the most important wars, especially items of interest in the last two hundred years, one realizes that one should probably know things like who Hitler was so they don't look a fool in polite company."

Not the greatest subject to bring up.... If history wasn't her subject either, though, maybe she liked literature.

"Shakespeare's works were interesting," he offered. "If literature is more your style, we could discuss that? Or, well, my favorite one I've found so far is actually a children's series. Or started that way, anyway. With the idea that magic no longer exists on Earth, the fascination with it in all kinds of genres is... well, it puts some refreshing takes out there, for certain. I don't suppose you read the Harry Potter books?"

i'm sorry i just think that a man from hoity toity britsih society in space would be interested in these books written by a powerful rich woman and since he stays far away from the internet,he has no idea what traps he's falling into

Karakorum wanted to pout, watching him relocate his eyes from her chest back to her face, but at least she knew that some of this was working if he had to make himself look away.

"Ooh, yeah, you have to know the big stuff if you're gonna, uh. Well. Don't take this the wrong way, but. Not look like a total idiot, y'know." She shrugged. "I mean, obviously you're learning, so you won't."

She scuffed her foot against the ground, concealing her near-instinctive wince at the mention of Harry Potter.

"I read it when I was a kid, yeah! Actually, China--where I'm from--has some really crazy fantasy martial arts stuff, if fantasy and magic is your vibe? I can recommend you some stuff. Lend you some books. If you wanted to drop by my place." She paused. "Unless you've got a roommate who will worry, or whatever."

Oooh, smooth.

Achird was kind of an idiot. Slow to realize just what the invite to her place was probably actually about.

... He wasn't constrained anymore. He could do, mostly, as he liked. And he wasn't special. Not in the sense that he was the only senshi around, or anything like that. Karakorum must have thought he was pretty in his own body, without wanting to chase riches or glory as one of the Moncrieff's, or the senshi.

He blushed a little at the thought, lips parted in shock, as he slowly nodded, shook his head, nodded again.

"I would, ah, love to come by," he said awkwardly. "I don't mind an introduction to genres that are more fantastical. As for a roommate, well, I can always text him. Besides, I... I don't think I have a room to come back to for a little bit, after the fight we had. Best if I stay away a bit."
