Good Traits
tab • • 》 Loyal: Marcus is a stalwart friend. Perhaps due to being an older brother, when he figures out someone he cares about needs something he sets about finding a way to help them. He makes a point to listen to his friends and family and likes to help them brainstorm ideas for their problems or even lend them a listening ear. Amicable by nature Marcus' friendship and loyalty are things you have to work at losing. He likes getting along with and helping people and once you're friends with him, it's not likely something that will change.
tab • • 》 Rational: Marcus is good at keeping a level head in most situations and being objective in finding a solution. It takes a lot to make him angry or upset, and hardly ever to the point that he can't make decisions.
tab • • 》 Independent: Due to both his parents working, and Eterna being the kind of town where kids wander around the forest Marcus shedded off the need for a caretaker rather early. While after meeting his brother and friends this somewhat changed he still tends to handle problems on his own and sometimes can't easily open up to people.
Bad Traits
tab • • 》 Overconfident/Isolated: Due to handling a lot of things by himself and being left to his own devices while his parents worked Marcus tends to isolate himself and alienate himself from asking for help.
tab • • 》 Hyperfocused: Usually happens when he's observing nature but can also happen when he's working on a project or just doing day to day things. Sometimes Marcus focuses on something so much everything else falls away. It can be counterproductive as he can run himself to the ground and forget things like sleeping eating and basic self care if he gets too focused.
tab • • 》 Bottles things up: You wouldn't think it since he's pretty social and an open book but Marcus tends to not open up about things that actually bother him. Due to often being the kinda person who helps his friends he tends to bottle up his own problems. He figures he doesn't want to add to what his friends are dealing with.

Strengths
tab • • 》 Knowledge of Nature: Marcus had the whole of Eterna forest as his backyard and a family full of Rangers. He's also watched nature documentaries since the age of six. All in all he has more to learn but he knows his way around the outdoors and trivia about plants and pokefauna.
tab • • 》Endurance: Due to walking around the forest and going on hikes with his family in Pewter Marcus is pretty fit for a kid. He can handle physical strain a bit better and is pretty athletic.
tab • • 》 Problem Solving: Due to his rational thinking and playing conflict resolution at home a lot Marcus has a good knack for problem solving and finding solutions.
tab • • 》 Camping and fishing skills: He grew up in Eterna and to a family of Rangers. Marcus also took survival classes to prepare him for a Pokemon journey in the academy and so is pretty good at holding his own in the woods. He's been fishing since he was five and knows some water sports.
tab • • 》Basics of training: Marcus had the privieledge of attending a Trainer Prep academy and due to their curriculum was exposed to intro classes to different kinds of paths ( contest, researcher, battler, breeder) a trainer could take, although he focused on Ranger classes as his chosen path he learned some basics as the school covered 101 for each class before asking students to specialize. He's also been working with Pokemon for all the seven years he was there and has a knack for it, though he is way more able to handle his team than other pokemon
tab • • 》 Battling Skills: Marcus took battling classes in the academy. While he isn't a seasoned battler by any means nor was it the area he pursued in his last years he did learn the mechanics and stats behind it and held his own.
Weaknesses
tab • • 》 Reading: While he's had to do it to get through school Marcus has no love for books and in fact has a hard time with it. This is due to his dyslexia. Often he either asks someone to read the book to him so he can absorb the information or if there's no one he stares at them until his eyes hurt.
tab • • 》 Psychic Pokemon: Marcus had a Hypno mess with his mind and put him under hypnosis back when he started trainer prep. Ever since then he's been left with nightmares as the hypnosis dug up some nasty memories from home. He saw a therapist for it but still freezes up around them and gets uneasy and anxious if he's around one.
tab • • 》 Letting People In : Marcus' main blind-spot is thinking he can/has to solve things himself and because of this he tends to leave people out of his solutions and not talk to them about them. He thinks he can ( and in fact Should) handle things himself by himself. While he's gotten better at communicating thanks to friends it's still really hard for him to tell people when he needs help or even comfort.
tab • • 》 Not having a plan: Marcus likes knowing what to do and when problem has a set solution he can put in motion. When something happens where things are uncertain it can really get to him and even freeze him sometimes.
tab • • 》 His Own Loyalty: Often Marcus gives the benefit of the doubt to too many people and gives too many second chances. This can sometimes be used against him as people can take advantage of it.

Marcus was born to a pokemon Ranger and a construction worker. His grandparents worked at the Herb shop and were the first generation of their family to settle in Eterna. His grandmother had gone on a pokemon journey and would often tell Marcus tales of their travels. His mother was a poke-ranger, while she stayed at home, her and Marcus' dad fought a lot so his mom took to traveling a lot. His father for his part would work a lot and so Marcus was left to his own devices from a fairly early age. He grew up with a younger sibling who would at age ten come out as non-binary. He knew at a young age that he had two half brothers from his dads previous marriage, since they came up often when his parents argued.
While both his parents loved Marcus and his baby sibling Lex very much they did not have a happy marriage. The two would often argue over every other thing and despite never trying to put Marcus and Lex in the middle both children grew up hearing their screams and slammed doors from their rooms. Marcus as the oldest, took it upon himself to try to shield his sibling as much as possible. Both parents would work to get away from each other leaving Marcus to look after himself and his sibling. When overwhelmed, he would wander Eterna Forest finding peace and grounding in nature. His parents let him as every kid who had grown up in Eterna city knew the forest as their backyard.
Pewter city was also a constant during Marcus childhood as his maternal grandparents lived there. Marcus would spend half the holidays there, the other spent in Eterna.He had a big maternal family most of whom had gone into the Ranger career due to one of his uncles going missing during his journey. Marcus loved going there and spending time with all his cousins as well as his aunts and uncles though he started to dread the fighting that would preceded it as his father often wanted them home for christmas( while his mom wanted them in pewter for Hannukah)
While home was less than ideal sometimes Marcus does have good memories of his early childhood and is fairly family-oriented. He would spend days reading books his mother got him and visiting his paternal grandparents at the herb shop and helping out there. He would also go fishing with his father or grandfather as a child, though that he was a fairly inquisitive child and both his parents and grandparents encouraged that.
As he often went wandering into the Eterna forest on his bike, sometimes taking one of his father's pokemon but sometimes just by himself. He found that he loved observing wild pokemon and learning about them.His mother was originally from Pewter city and would take him on trips there to visit his maternal grandparents.
Still it wasn't without drawbacks. Marcus had a hard time reading and focusing which often got him in trouble at school. He started to wander the forest more and more as his parents fights became more frequent, sometimes at night, sometimes for hours. Worried and a bit overwhelmed by the schools constant calls on top of heavy hours at work Marcus dad reached out to one of his other sons from his first marriage, Harvey Bennett.
After a long call of apologies and conversations, Marcus dad asked Harvey if Marcus could attend the school he was teaching Breeding at, a trainer prep school in an island off the regions. Harvey agreed and Marcus was told he'd bee going to a school where he would learn about Pokemon and earn his trainer licence, and get to know his brother.
Marcus was estatic at all of this, though he worried about Lex who was five at the time. His grandparents reassured him that Lex would be taken care of and promised to keep him updated, having seen how much of a toll worrying about home already took on the young boy.Before leaving Marcus caught a Slakoth whom he and his mom had been observing in Eterna forest for a couple of years and who Marcus had started to befriend. Marcus placed the ball in front of him, making it the Slakoths choice to go with him and named it Valiant. Starter Pokemon in hand and bags packed Marcus headed off to the trainer prep.
Marcus' time at the academy was marked with living in a district with high diversity, and specifically a high Hispanic population. The school offered a rather lucrative curriculum showing students the different types of paths trainers could have. From Pokemon 101 to basic battling to introduction to contests, to an outdoors class Marcus soaked up the knowledge. All the while he tried to get close to his half brother. Harvey however resented Marcus despite his best efforts due to the fact that Marcus' mother was the reason he was sent away from Eterna and to live with his mother. Marcus to this day has no clue that this is why.
After being rebuffed one too many times Marcus snapped at Harvey that they were brothers and asked with all the indignation of a child why they couldn't just be brothers. Seeing the child in tears Harvey realized with some help from the faculty that he needed to get over some things to stop hurting this kid. After a bit, Harvey apologized and started trying to really mend bridges with Marcus.
At the academy, Marcus also made friends with his rather small class, learning about kids from other regions and what Pokemon they had. Extroverted by nature he flourished in a school where his interests ( Pokemon) were front and center. It helped that once they started talking Harvey noticed Marcus actually had a learning disability and asked the academy to provide accomodations for him.
One of the first friends Marcus made was Ray Myers. Marcus commented on his Pokemon companion ( a Rufflet) and the two started talking. Before long they were fast friends. Ray however as Marcus would learn was recovering from losing his twin and not handling it well. Throughout their friendship, Marcus found himself learning how to help someone in grief, learning when depression would get bad enough his friend couldn't be left alone, learning to make sure Ray ate. Still Ray was his best friend, the two shared a love for their Pokemon and a desire to see the world and would often talk well into the night when Ray was feeling up to it.
Taking his first battling class at 13 Marcus started specializing in water Pokemon, having always liked them. He designed his first Pokemon team around the idea of the move rain dance. He also joined the research club and started a school club for water sports and camping.
The following four years were just that, friendships made, classes and homework and hanging out with Ray, their starters evolved and came to see both boys as their friends more often than not Marcus would fall asleep on Rays Braviary as often as Ray fell asleep on Valiant. This was also the year Marcus' parents filed for divorce and the fighting became bad enough Marcus considered staying in the academy for the holidays. Thankfully he was now in speaking terms with Harvey and Harvey was in a better place to support him along with Marcus friends, and Elaine, Rays aunt and Harveys best friend who was a gardener in the academy. Still it was a turbulent year and still it wouldn't prepare him for what would come next.
When Marcus was 15 his father had a heart attack at work. It wasn't survivable and Marcus along with his siblings lost his father rather suddenly. His mother had moved to Pewter with Marcus sibling but Marcus had a hard time leaving the home he had grown up on and that his father had lived in. He argueed to be allowed to stay there. Throughout the entire service and the months after his fathers death Marcus didn't cry. It wasn't until he was back in school and halfway through his first class that he excused himself finding his feet taking him to Harveys teacher dorm and unable to stop shaking. He broke down crying and couldn't seem to stop, sobbed until he almost himself sick with it and fell asleep.
Marcus fell into a depression for months, not eating and barely leaving his room. It was only through the combined efforts of his friend his brother and his family that he was able to get back on his feet. It was slow going, all the more because he often refused to talk about how he felt or why. Harvey convinced him to see a school psychiatrist which helped. Ray also helped, returning the support Marcus had given him when they were younger as this time Marcus was the one grieving.
Around this time it was said by the therapist Marcus was seeing that while Marcus loved his family they often forced him into a place where he neglected his own feelings and needs to take care of them, and that the sudden depressive episode was not only triggered by his fathers death but also by the feelings he had been constantly supressing around his family. Harvey now closer to his brother offered his apartment as a solution and Marcus accepted finding that he needed some space from both Eterna and Pewter.
The last two years at the academy were easier for Marcus he slowly but surely recoverd from his fathers death and was now living in an apartment with Harvey who despite their rocky history very much treated him like a kid, something he had been needing. His younger sibling started at the academy and he went into his last year excited to finally have his trainer licence. He continued to go to class, atteend the school clubs, battle, and see his friends and eventually chose Ranger academy as the next step in his journey.
RIght before starting at a Ranger Union, where he got in after passing the admittance test with flying colors, Marcus got word of Ray Myers his best friend going missing. Ray was supposed to see him during his first week as a Ranger and Marcus couldnt shake the feeling that something was off.Ray had left him a message, saying he was fine but Marcus had grown up with the other boy. He knew better than to think the message meant Ray was fine. Against his familys wishes ( sans Harveys) he took of to Jhotho on a hunch and has started making plans to find Ray on his own. Recently Harvey has suggested he take on the league since theyre the highest authority and might know something about the mystery behind Rays dissapearance.
Likes • • 》
Nature Walks: Growing up in Eterna city Marcus often went on walks on the woods both for fun and to avoid his parents fighting. He finds incredible peace in nature and its one of his favorite ways to self regulate and bring himself peace. He also likes identifying plants and Pokemon while he's out on walks tho he doesnt do this in the more meditative ones.
Pokemon: Marcus loves pokefauna and everything about it. Having watched Pokemon documentaries from a young age, he was that kid others called a walking Pokedex always saying some random fact about them. After training Pokemon at the trainer prep school for seven years he's finding his footing in regards to handling Pokemon. Theyll always cheer him up and he is always enthusiastic about learning new things about them.
He also tends to like Pokemon people consider scary and hard to train.
Quality time: Being both platonically oriented and incredibly close to his family Marcus loves spending time with people he loves. Doesnt matter if they talk or not if they do something together or each do their own thing. Nothing quite brings him joy like making his friends and family smile.
Fishing: Marcus has been fishing since he was four or five years old tiny and being held by his dad and grandpa. He gets anxious if he cant cast from time to time. His specially in water Pokemon very much comes from this.
Baking: Being a latchkey kid and the oldest of two siblings meant Marcus was cooking for himself from a very early age. He developed a love for baking finding as meditatives as walks. When his nightmares or school or his housing situation got worse he could be found in the nearest kitchen kneading dough and baking more than one person could eat ( often he gave it to friends or brought them to class)
Pokemon Research: While he hates reading, Marcus loves Pokemon Research. He grew up watchnig documentaries and loves the field side of it. His dyslexia is the main reason he didn't pursue it but he still loves listening to audio files of research papers and learning as much as he can about pokemon. He joined a research club in his trainer school.
Dislikes • • 》 Arguments: Marcus grew up in a house where fighting parents waited too long to get a divorce. While he can keep his cool in them, arguments always put him in an off mood and can sometimes mess with him.
Psychic Pokemon: A psychic pokemon once messed with his head at a haunted house and left him with nightmares on and off for years. While he eventually saw a shrink for them they still make his skin crawl and can sometimes make him panic.
Not Understanding a Situation: Quite nothing gets to Marcus like feeling out of his depth.
Routines being broken: Marcus can be thrown by surprises a bit more than the average person. It takes him a while to adjust to new events.
Being helpless: Between his parents relying on him a bit too much for understanding, feeling the need to always protect his younger sibling and feeling like he needed to always be able to help Ray or something horrible would happen Marcus cant stand being helpless. He hates not being able to do anything to help a situation and its one of the few things that can make him act rashly ( see him going off to Jotho with no Pokemon and dropping out of the Ranger program to find Ray)
Reading: His dyslexia makes it hard to read and he's embarrassed by how long it takes him. Having had to do it for research only made his dislike for books grow.
Pokemon Cruelty: As much as he loves Pokemon and as much as he's learned about the really misunderstood ones, seeing Pokemon being treated badly will make Marcus livid.
Unkind People: he cant stand bullies, not in school and not everywhere. Marcus hates unnessesary cruelty. If he sees someone being hurtful it can take a while for that impression to fade.
His loved ones being hurt: One of the few things that will make him lose his cool fast is seeing his loved ones hurt.
Fears • • 》 Marcus' biggest fear is his friends and family being in trouble and him being unable to help
His mind being messed with by a psychic pokemon is a close second.
Goals Dreams • • 》In order:
To find Ray and bring him home no matter what.
To find and study as many different pokemon as possible.
To become a Ranger
To help people as a Ranger.

tab • • 》 Marcus is in contact with his other half brother ( Harveys older brother) He works in Fuego Ironworks and recently moved to Celestic town with his wife but Marcus doesn't really talk to them as they haven't shown more than a pacing interest in both he and Harvey. He's not as close to them and mainly they're social media friends.
tab • • 》 While Marcus is very family oriented and loves his cousins and uncles their disapproval of him searching for Ray ( sans his siblings and some of his cousins though they're an even split) means he doesn't talk with them as much and keeps certain things ( such as his nightmares and budding anxiety attacks) from them. This also compounds with his need to always be okay and be the caretaker which unfortunately flares up around him. Because of this hes more open with Harvey who despite their rocky start treated him like a kid.
tab • • 》 While Marcus made amazing and lasting friendships with his classmates all of them went their separate ways in the trainers paths and he doesn't really talk to many of them. He still thinks of them fondly but none of them really know where each other is. The only exception is Ray.

tab • • 》 Most of Marcus maternal family members have red or brown hair and picked Charmander as their starter. They also mostly went into ranger and missing persons related jobs with some exceptions for research.

tab • • 》 His paternal family by contrast is small consisting only of his dad and half brothers and paternal grandparents. All of whom hail from Eterna.

He also is wont to spout the occasional Yiddish having been raised Jewish. He also speaks JSL fluently since his younger sibling is HOH. In general he likes learning new languages.
Being from Eterna he often swears to Arceus Palkia and Dialga as they are the Sinnoh deities.

Bio: Marcus first pokemon, has been with him since Marcus was ten years old. Marcus used to watch Valiants troop back when Valiant was a slakoth in Eterna forest. After almost a year of watching their troop, Marcus managed to befriend the back then young Slakoth and right before going off to the academy he used a nest ball to capture him. Valiant in fact tapped the nest ball making the caputre his choice.
Valiant was often with Marcus when the boy escaped to Eterna forest when his parents would fight and would notice when Marcus became overwhelmed by it all. Because of this as well as being his starter Valiant is incredibly protective of the boy. He was at Marcus side throughout his academy years although not a part of his battling team ( though Marcus had plans of making a team around Valiant) he was the boys main support and oldest friend.
Marcus took him to visit Eterna forest every school break so he could spend time with his troop. He evolved when Marcus was 12 after some Rockets broke into his academy and tried to steal all the pokemon.
While all his academy pokemon know him better than anyone Valiant is absolutely the one who has seen the most of him.
Throughout being a VIgoroth he became restless and a bit agressive, leaving Marcus with some scars due to his roughhousing, however Marcus never gave up on him and four years later he evolved again.
He sees his team as part of his troop as well as Marcus and dislikes that he is being kept away from them.
While he has calmed down considerably after evolving if he thinks somoene is hurting Marcus he will go beserk.
He is the oldest in the party by large and both teams of Marcus and sees himself as in charge of them all and is protective of them all because of it.

Bio: The second pokemon Marcus ever caught, Phillip was caught by accidentally biting on Marcus kid fishing rod when he was fishing for bait in a forest near his academy. Feeling bad for the duck pokemon who now had a fishing hook through his beak Marcus caught the pokemon and took him to the pokemon center. Phillip made fast friends with Valiant as it was just the two of them and Marcus for a while.
A calm and thoughtful pokemon Phillip tends to like to think things through. While Valiant was a Vigoroth he was often the one to try to keep him out of trouble, though if his team needs backup hes rihght there. Having been with Marcus since the boy was ten, he trusts him completely and admires how he thinks up tactics for battling and how much he loves learning, something he shares with him.Despite being more of the diplomat of the team, Phillip fights for his trainer and as the years passed that trust grew as their bond. He was the first member of Marcus mono water type, an honor he feels inmensely proud of. Like most of Marcus old party, he knew Ray. Like Valiant, Phillip is one of the few beings who has seen Marcus have meltdowns and cry and was a big part of the boys support group while his parents were fighting and eventually divorced and is privy to just how much Marcus puts on himeself to take care of people. He is highly worried about how long it has been sicne hes seen his trainers as he knows Marcus was worried about Ray and thinking of looking for him himself. Despite being Marcus second oldest pokemon hes never evolved but he never lets that keep him down.

Bio:Caught when Marcus was thirteen, the same year as Reina. Hopper is a happy go lucky guy who doesnt sweat the small stuff. He was caught as poliwag and despite liking to float around and not take things seriously commited to being a part of team rain dance. He is in fact the one in charge of bringing on the rain.
Hopper has been with Marcus for about four years and saw him through the battling classes and ups and downs of high school. In the process he evolved into a poliwhirl and when asked what hed rather be, he knew the answer right away. Marcus took on school jobs to afford a king stone and Hopper evolved. While Phillip and Valiant definetely know the boy better Hopper was still there when Marcus parents divorced and knows that the boy takes on more than he should. Its because of this that he took on the role of being the clown of the team and constantly tried to get Marcus to laugh and keep everyones spirties high. He and Phillip are extremely close. He also gets along well with Valiant and likes making him laugh. He loves to jump and do flips. He has an analytical side and observes more than people give him credit despite his goofball exterior.

Bio:Caught when Marcus was 14-15 as a shinx. Marcus caught him because Ray caught his brother and the two didnt want to be separated. Nuka in fact followed the boys and tried to attack them wanting them to give his brother back. Marcus calmed him down and offered him a spot on his team explaining that since he and Ray were best friends, Nuka would always see their brother every day.
True to his word Marcus and Ray were inseperable as were Nuka and his brother. While he likes Marcus enough theyve always felt like they arent as part of the team since they dont really have a place in the mono water team. Marcus tried his best to get them trained and involved even getting them to evolve when he was sixteen. He gets along the best with Valiant who already well into his second evolution when Marcus caught Nuka took them under his wing and was patient when they lost their temper. Being a later capture they spent the least ammount of time with him and so arent as aware of just how much Marcus keeps under the surface, they also tend to lose their temper with him much like Valiant used to as a Vigoroth.
Currently they are livid as Rays dissapearance means their brother has dissapeared as well. Marcus promised that he would get their brother back but they are restless and hate being away from the one human they trust on top of everything.

Bio:Caught after dragon tamers came to Marcus old academy when he was 13 and they let the students pick a pokemon to train. While it was she Valiant and Phillip Lily was the baby of the team and as Hopper was part of the battle team and Nuka liked proving herself not needing protection it is a title she kept. Despite having powerful moves LIly spent most of her years ( all four of them) at the academy learning to grow into her power and all the energy that being a Deino came with. She is responsible for a good chunk of scars and concussions Marcus received during his school year though they were all accidents. She loves Marcus and loves tackling him on sight.
She sees Valiant as her older brother as he was the only one who could take her on spars and would often train with her. She is still friends with Phillip Hopper Reina and the other pokemon that Marcus caught at the academy even if they arent as closed. She can be a bit spoiled due to being the youngest in Marcus team for so long. Because of this she is also less privy of how much Marcus kept inside. She dreams of the day she can evolve and fly. Shes matured since Marcus caught her but still sometimes forgets her own strenght and knocks the boy or her team mates over and somtimes bites to show affection. Like all of Marcus academy pokemon she knew Ray and is deeply worried for her trainer.

Bio: Caught during Marcus second year in the academy to form team Rain Dance. He was caught as a chinchou off a pier in Sinnoh and despite never thinking of himself as much a battler found himself convinced by the boy to join his team. Introverted and a bit dorky, Gizmo gets along well with most of the team. Hes a bit of a joker but not a clown like Hopper which makes him more tolerable to the more impatient types such as Nuka and Reina. He is kind of brainy and tends to fade into the background when around stronger personalities in the team. Still he loves his trainer and his friends. Helping Marcus through battling classes and even against school rivalries he is friendly and sociable always willing to talk to another mon. He spent some time in Eterna while Marcus was there during school breaks and so is also privy to the things Marcus had to deal with at home. He is the only one of Marcus pokemon who doesnt hold Harveys early behaviour against him. During times when Marcus would go out at night it was often Gizmo who made that possible specially when it involved night fishing.
He evolved during Marcus fourth year an event that Marcus would not stop gushing about for months after. He was excited for Marcus to accept the Ranger Union position as it was understood that they would go with him and is rather dismayed to not be allowed to see his trainer and not be allowed to leave to find him.
