Amateru wasn't letting go of Elkurud. Not ever. He kept his arm around his fiancé as they carefully made their way away from the place they'd returned to after that horrifying battle. Exhaustion clung to him like a fog, but he wouldn't let himself collapse, not until he could properly kiss Elkurud and talk with him about everything that had happened. Once he deemed them far enough away, in a different park than the one they'd been before, he pulled Elkurud to him and crushed him in a hug, trying not to cry. "Is it really you?" he asked between little huffs of breath that gave away the fact that he was trying not to cry. "I can't—tell me something only you'd know, El."

It felt good, to be held in Amateru's arms again. After so long apart, so long not knowing if he was alive or dead, if he would find the man he loved again or have to look at the same eyes in a new face...
Elkurud's chest ached. It was so many emotions, all at once.
"It's me, Teru," he said, softly. "After all this time, it's....it's me." He reached up to cup his fiance's face in his hands, wonder in his eyes.
"I....in our home, on Elkurud, you decided that any bed made by someone else's hands wouldn't be enough for us. So you carved one yourself, in the hollow of the tree and out of its wood, so that we'd have something sturdy and true. Something that would always be ours."

Amateru gasped quietly, and with no further hesitation to be had, dipped his head to kiss Elkurud thoroughly, making little desperate noises as he did so. His fiance was here. He was alive. He was real and warm and everything Amateru had thought was gone forever. "A symbol of our love everlasting," he whispered when he pulled back, tears streaming down his face. "I said I hoped you liked the house we built around the darned thing, because movin' would be, uh... That mighta been hard to explain to any buyers."

Elkurud let out a contented sigh into the kiss. This connection...it had been absent for so, so long. And now, they'd fought the Calamitous Hollow together and come out on the other side--this reunion was long awaited, and part of Elkurud had given up on ever having it.
"It's still there," he said, softly. "It's stood the test of time. Waiting for us, when my world is safe again." He might be resistant to the disease that had claimed so many, but Amateru might not--and her wasn't about to risk it. But he'd been back to the capitol, in the years since its fall, and sometimes he'd lingered in that old house, to make sure that it waited for them.
"What about you? Your world?"

Amateru shuddered. "Very unsafe. Some kinda disease," he said, pressing their foreheads together. "People just—they just went mad. Angry, and-and wild, and... It was terrifying, El. Everyone just slowly dropped dead after losing so much weight, and nobody could stand upright properly anymore, and some people killed each other in their aggression, it... I was the last one. I went to bed one night, and woke up a thousand years later to the last of us all dead. I don't know why I survived. Why..." He swallowed, breathing shakily. "I'm so glad I have you. I dunno if I could bear livin' like this on Earth much longer without ya." He brushed his fingers through Elkurud's hair, fondling one of his feathery ears gently. "It's so good to see your face is still yours."

"Ah, yours too," Elkurud sighed, softly. "After we got cut off...it was similar. A Chaos disease of rage and paranoia. People would just...snap, and attack their neighbors, it was....awful."
Elkurud had been no stranger to violence, even centuries ago. But what he'd seen as his planet tore itself apart was...different.
"I don't know why we both made it. But I'm glad we did. That we're still us, and we..." Elkurud broke into a broad smile. "I still want to marry you. We may need some time to plan, but...it's a bit overdue, don't you think?"

Amateru grinned, grasping Elkurud by the waist, lifting him, and spinning him in sheer joy. "A thousand years overdue," he agreed when he finally set Elkurud down with a happy sigh. "I'll marry you every which way we can. Earth, Amataran, Elkurudian, whatever it is, I'll do it a hundred times if I gotta. My love, my everything, my sweet." He knelt to the ground, taking both of Elkurud's hands in his. "I'll marry you again and again to call you my husband as many ways as possible. I want to be with you forever, and not wait any longer than I hafta wait, after these long years without you."

Elkurud laughed. "Yes. Excellent. All three. Maybe a few more, if we find any old or new friends who are willing to help us with that." As many times as Amateru wanted, as many times as they could manage--Elkurud wanted to turn fiance into husband over, and over, and over.
As many times as they could. Everywhere they could. A thousand years of delay meant they were owed a thousand years of celebration, as far as he was concerned. And if they couldn't have that, they'd have to go for quality over quantity.
"Maybe the Mauvians can help us sort something out on Earth. If we're going to do an Elkurudan or Amateran wedding, I...want to do them at home. So our worlds need to be safe."
A promise, for the future. But he could surely ask Demeter about how that worked on Earth.
Which, now that he thought of it--
"Where have you been staying? Are you safe? Do you have somewhere?"

"We'll make them safe. Things won't be perfect.... Never will be. But I'm sure we'll find people who will help us." He kissed Elkurud's hands and stood, beaming with quiet joy. "I've been staying with a lovely Knight of Ida," he murmured. "She's been so kind, ever since I landed here in the last summer. It was summer, and I said it was cold. That's how hot home got. And yourself? Safe?"

"Yes, exactly. We'll find our way. We always have." Things had never been simple or easy; that wasn't what being a Senshi meant.
He rolled up on his toes to kiss Amateru's cheek. "I'm glad. I've been staying with a Senshi, but I've only been here for a few weeks. Arrived just in time for all of this madness." He laughed, a little dryly. "If your Knight has space, I might like to move there--my new friend is lovely, but they live with their parents, and their parents are..." Elkurud wrinkled his nose. "Less than pleasant."
He didn't want to scorn Autumn's generosity, but....well. There was more than enoguh reason to consider moving somewhere else, if Amateru's Knight friend had the space.

"I'll ask. Maybe your new friend can come along, too, if their parents are so... odd. It will be great to be with you like that again." He smiled, kissing Elkurud's cheek. "In the meantime, we should all get some sleep. Figure it out in the mornin'. I love you."
