The sun was shining and it was a beautiful morning in Matori. The perfect day for an adventure for the cousins! At least that was how Asterix felt as he continued humming under his breath. How could he not be excited when both his brother and sister had managed to snag two of his cousins for an excursion today? And maybe if the place that they found was super amazing then they could share it with everyone else! Though that was quite the group with his five siblings and four cousins, plus his aunties and his grandparents, and everyone else that was here in the area. There were already a lot of them today with Zoicite and Kailani joining in! How many was that again? Asterix frowned, his forehead furrowing as he held a finger for each of them. Zoicite, Kai, older brother Quetzal, Ellie and me….five! Hah! He could count that far at least. Even if he had to kind of take a moment and hold up a finger per person, at least he could do it!

“Ah, looks like everyone is gathering.” Zoicite mused as he looked up towards the tree where one of his cousins was perched to look at the native birds flying about the Matori cliffs. “You coming down, Quetzal?” He had already dragged out Kailani who was content spending time looking around the nearby area for any interesting flora and fauna, Zoicite deciding to take one of his siblings with him today while the rest spent time with their other cousins and helping out at home. It was definitely a lot busier with his aunt in town, their family’s Matori manor bursting with new roommates for the season while everyone gathered together for a bit. Quetzal was sharing his room with him while the younger boys shared a guest room with the girls sharing their larger room. So over the last week he had gotten to know his cousin a bit better, Zoicite finding his quiet nature a blessing in comparison to others in their family who had much more…vibrant personalities.

Kailani was watching a small pink and blue alol as it darted from rock to rock. I guess he’s going to the cliffs. She figured as she watched the little one, the young teen perched on a larger flat rock herself. She enjoyed the rocky outcrop here with the various hiding spots and places to sit beneath the few trees that did actually grow along the cliffs behind their family home. It was perfect to find all sorts of smaller creatures and to spend some quiet time away from everyone with a tidepool just around the bend for her to also explore if she wanted somewhere to cool off without going into the ocean. She did wish that she could go after the alol and slip into the cliffs away from everyone’s sight, but Kailani had promised her brother that she would go along today to spend time with their family….she would just get to retreat into the attic later with a good book to read away from the chaos currently happening at their home. “What are we planning on doing today?” She found herself asking, the girl sneaking up behind her brother and gently tugging at his shirt.

“Ouch.” Quielle placed a hand against her chest as if her younger brother’s words hurt. “I just hope you don’t regret not wearing one in this sun.” His skin surely would get too warm as well in this bright sunlight. She could only hope that the loose cotton clothing he wore and herbal remedy that her mother had applied to his skin would help fight any burns from their time on the beach. Though if they were exploring the cliffs today she hoped that they could find some sort of good shade to picnic in later, as long as Zoicite had brought the promised snacks that she had helped prepare the night before. I guess we’ll find out soon enough. She raised a hand in greeting as the others started coming into view, a small smile on her own lips.

“Should be.” Quetzal acknowledged as his golden gaze swept over his siblings. “Everyone else went into town today?” It was easier if they split up into groups to do whatever they wanted before the evening activities that they would always have after dinner. Sometimes it would be charades or simply playing on the beach together while the older family members chatted over drinks. He wasn’t much for shopping and had opted to tag along on a hike today since he wanted to see what other flora and fauna would stand out in Matori compared to the island back home.

“Took ya long enough!” Teased Asterix as the others did finally come into view. Even if he was the youngest, he didn’t hesitate and had one of the loudest personalities out of the group. His gaze swept over the others and landed on the picnic basket. “Are we having a picnic here on the beach or do we have to go somewhere first?” He asked with interest, the boy’s stomach already rumbling at the thought of a snack. He had an awful sweet tooth and could be easily bribed with any of the pastries that his aunties kept around the kitchens, the local village bakery having some of the most amazing snacks that almost beat out some of the ones his Auntie Lutie had brought from Belrea.

“Mmhmm. You’ll have to wait.” Zoicite replied as he shifted the basket once more on his arm as if keeping it protected from the younger boy. “I’m good with the cliffs as long as everyone else is prepared. We have to be careful going up, so no running ahead of me.” He looked pointedly towards Asterix as he spoke before glancing around at the others. “Ready?”

Kailani nodded that she was good to go. Despite her shyness the girl was actually curious to see how her cousins would react to the waterfall that she had found with Zoicite a bit ago. It was a lovely sight when they first hiked all the way there, the water cascading down from the cliffs to crash into the ocean below. And with how clear the skies were today with just a few puffy clouds floating along she could easily imagine how much the water would be shimmering in the sunlight.
