“Are we even sure these can fly? So, I know we’ve got magic and technology and stuff, but this looks really complicated and I have no idea what this means. Is it upside down?”
Jet frowned as he turned the blueprint he’d received from Solaris around in his hands. Naturally, he’d gone straight to Queen Laurelite, who (luckily for the Velencians) was already speaking with Commodore Lyndin. It seemed as though the Vanguard got their hands on the shield plans shortly before they did. No matter, because as long as they were all working towards saving Earth, that was all Jet cared about.
“Don’t we need rocket fuel or something to get these going? I guess we could use energy. I guess. If we have enough.”
He had his cape and jacket removed by now. His shirt was unbuttoned and sleeves rolled up. He was doing the best he could to help, which meant handing Seraphinite tools and hoping it was the right one. He learned what a few tools were, even! Well, he could have guessed (probably), but he was glad to have someone who knew what they were doing, well… actually doing it.
“I feel like we should be able to repurpose these somehow. I mean, after all this is over. And yeah, right now they’re only going to work against the space snake or whatever it is, but maybe we can set up shields against the White Moon, you know? Slowly expand the perimeter until we push them out of the city. Oh, I guess it wouldn’t work like that, though, would it?

Thankfully for Seraphinite, he'd had years of practice to figure out how to both listen to Jet's questions and talk, and still focus on whatever trinket or gadget he had in his hands. Leaning over a few pieces crafted to the right sizes shown on the blueprint by the Mauvians, he worked to carefully solder some of the delicate electrical components into place.
"They use solar power, by the looks of it. They charge up in the sunlight, and seem to have a decent battery on them. I'll have to take another look, see if the blueprints specify anything on that…. we want to make sure we charge them up properly, but not overcook them. That'll just diminish the longevity of the batteries and wear them out sooner."

“Solar power? Seriously? But wouldn’t that be a problem if, I don’t know, there’s a storm? Isn’t that the thing we’re supposed to be looking for?” Jet frowned, placing the blueprints back on the table and leaned heavily against it to peer over at what Seraphinite was working on.
Of course he was curious! He played music while Seraphinte did things like… tinkering and engineering and whatever. He was clearly better at this than Jet was. He tried! He could at least put things together as he was told, but the intricacies of knowing what worked together and why? Ah, he would leave that to the professionals. Which meant he would be leaving it to Seraphinite to figure out.
“You know how sometimes in the past, big volcanoes blew up and blocked out the sun for, like, months and months? What if that happens now? I mean with the storms. We should probably make sure they’re charged up without solar power, too. I guess? I mean, I don’t really know how all this works, obviously.”
He’d had plenty of caffeine that day already, and it showed. But it was better than being too sleepy to do anything. He couldn’t risk wasting the energy they’d collected, either. And he was expecting them to collect so much especially with how many people were helping. It gave him hope that they’d come out of this a little better than he first expected.
Or he could just be delusional and painfully unprepared for what was coming for them.

By this point, Seraphinite had long since removed his outer vest and coat, sticking with the dark undershirt usually unseen. The table in front of him was, thankfully, one that could be electronically controlled to lift up or down--standing desks were truly fantastic. Especially when they were properly sized for taller folks so he didn't need to be hunched over all the time.
Jet's questions were fair ones, and he nodded his head a few times in general concession to them. "From what I understood, if the notes on the plans are correct, the satellites will be far above the clouds, I think possibly out into space itself beyond the atmosphere. So more to shield the planet entirely in the section they can cover, atmosphere included. Provided the part of the Earth being shielded is in the sun--daytime for the region--then the satellites will have direct, all they can absorb sunlight to keep themselves charged up."
For all of his brutality and blows in fights, Seraphinite really didn't have much of a problem being careful and keeping a light touch to the delicate components. He was steady and worked methodically--and now that Jet put the plans back, thankfully, he could pause to look over them a bit more, comparing the blueprints to the pieces he was working on. While he was at it, he motioned to the clean, crisp notations along the plan. The whole thing was filled with them, really. Useful, good information and explanations.
Whoever wrote this knew how to make it accessible, he'd give them that.
"Yeah… it says here they'll be out in space, and able to take a hit from the serpent out there. For the better, really, since we then don't need to worry about any excess energy running wild through the atmosphere any more than there already is, or that the shockwaves from any potential impact won't cause additional damage down on Earth." He was a bit relieved with that as he summarized the notes about the exact functions of the satellites.
That had been one of his own concerns when he first started looking over the plans--even if the satellites could absorb the majority of the energy expelled by the serpent in an attack, he'd seen how even Captain Carnotite had had ample amounts of energy lancing through the air around her. He was hoping that with them out in space, at least, if the same thing happened to the satellites then perhaps any excess energy would just… stay in the atmosphere, or in space, away from the planet that could be jeopardized by such a blast--even if it was an indirect one.
