With something obviously important happening, Arawn cursed his poor memory. It wasn’t as though they hadn’t been trying to figure things out. He’d been to so many doctors it felt like, and was trying so many different types of medication. The irony of trying to fix him with drugs was not lost on him.
He knew he’d read the database more than once. He knew they’d been collecting shards of crystals to gather energy, he felt like an imposter whenever he went anywhere. He didn’t know if he’d seen something before, or if it was for the first time. What if he wasn’t reacting to something properly? What if he was expected to be surprised and wasn’t? Or what if he was surprised about something he’d already seen.
So when he stared up at the giant crossbow made of mirrorshards, Arawn didn’t say anything. Laon worried about him already. The best he could do was try to pretend like everything was normal.
On his arm, he’d written ‘get energy, save earth,’ in sharpie. In retrospect, he should have added a bit more details. But at least he knew their main goal. It was just a little difficult not to stare through some of the mirrors into space or-- wherever it was they were looking.

Laon was making a somewhat distressed face as he stared at the giant crossbow.
“...I think we should call Remarque,” he said after a few seconds of silent debate. His fingers were firmly laced with Arawn’s and while that was normal, it had become a habit especially of late. He’d heard too many stories of the mirrors acting up and he didn’t want to be separated. He and Arawn only ever went into the mirror together, in case something happened and they needed to call for help.
Remarque had told them to report anything strange, and this definitely seemed to fit the bill.
Awkwardly, he withdrew his Compact; he wanted neither to take his eyes off of the crossbow nor to remove his hand from Arawn’s so it wasn’t a graceful effort. Wraiths seemed to go in and out, constantly. They were looking at the crossbow through the mirror but it was like a window as much as a door. He was afraid to step through it, afraid to mess something up.
He could see the wraiths delivering energy; as their forms shifted from solid to translucent, the crossbow seemed to do the same.
“Remarque,” he said slowly; he didn’t take his eyes off of the crossbow. “Can we please borrow you in Mirrorspace? There’s something weird. We just got here, we’re right in the Common Room.”
He wasn’t sure if Remarque had gotten the message until there was a sudden response, and that startled him enough to break his gaze away.
“Yeah, give me a second,” Remarque said, and that was all it took before the Prince stepped through a mirror to their right. It cracked when he passed through, and he looked at it with a soured expression. A wraith tumbled out and writhed on the ground like a turtle flipped onto its back, flailing pathetically just at Remarque’s feet.
He grumbled immediately and dismissed his compact before he bent over to flip the wraith right-side up. While doing so, he asked, “Are you two all right?”

“Shouldn’t we be asking you that?” Arawn grunted as he watched the mirror crack and the poor wraith writhe about before being sent on its way. He kept hold of Laon’s hand, but with his other he gestured to the thing in question.
“Does Mirrorspace want us hunting dragons or something?” he scowled at the crossbow. He was pretty sure he’d never seen a weapon in mirrorspace. He knew they were supposed to be collecting energy, but was Remarque hiding things from them?
Probably not. It was either need-to-know, or his memory was just poor. But Laon seemed to be surprised about their new discovery as well.
“Is this where all the energy we’ve been collecting is going? I’m not saying it’s a bad thing. It’s just…”
Well, given the size of the crossbow, it looked like Mirrorspace was gearing up to protect itself against something enormous.
He could feel his hand tremble and squeezed Laon’s both in an attempt to get it to stop, and to let him know he was okay. He hated feeling like he was walking through a haze, and while some of his new medication made things clearer, it put other things into a fuzzy perspective.

“Huh,” Remarque said, twisting just slightly to better see the strange device. The wraith was already scuttling off. It decided to beat them to the chase; instead of just jumping through the mirror and going on its own way somewhere else, it crawled through the mirror–and they could see it.
It waddled to the ballista enthusiastically. They didn’t need to be in the room to see that it was sharing its energy.
“...I haven’t seen this before.”
Laon’s eyes snapped to Remarque with obvious alarm. “What do you mean?” he blurted. He held Arawn’s hand a little tighter and didn’t know if he should be afraid or not. Remarque looked unshaken but Laon struggled in the face of the unknown. He’d had such a hard time when things didn’t just stick to schedule, when there were constant wrenches thrown into routine.
“I mean,” Remarque said slower, “This is new. It wasn’t here when I came into Mirrorspace an hour or so ago. I’m going to go check it out. You want to come?” he asked. He’d already walked to the mirror and seemed ready to step through, but he stopped only to offer a hand. They could have gone separately but Mirrorspace hadn’t been the most agreeable of late and he didn’t want to risk getting separated between one step and the next.
Those two were always a bit antsy about their personal space so he didn’t force anything on them, he only offered.
If they got lost in Mirrorspace, he’d just go find them and come back.

Even if he didn’t like trusting other people, Remarque had been a very generous benefactor to them in many ways. Sure, they were stubborn and insisted on being able to do things on their own, not wanting to owe anyone more than they absolutely had to, Jett had given them a chance when no one else would.
And no one else had the patience to actually follow through with making sure they were okay.
More than that, he was actively helping them with their schooling and health issues, respectively.
So after giving Laon’s hand another squeeze, Arawn decided to take hold of Remarque’s. He didn’t want them separated or lost when Mirrorspace was being weird.
