Mina casually made her way as quickly through the village as she possibly could. The Hapuna didn't want to draw unwanted attention, but she also couldn't have been less inclined to slow down. She pulled at the sheer shawl around her shoulders, pinching the thin fabric nervously between her fingers as she jogged.
Since the weather had started to warm Mina had started to feel off. At first she'd pegged it as fatigue over balancing a thriving work, social, and newly physically romantic life. It was an exciting, nerve wracking, daunting time in the Hapuna's life that she embraced with her entire being. Mina may not have even thought to check over her symptoms had her employer not suggested it. Her tender hearted employer was so worried that Mina was working herself too hard and had insisted.
...And nearly as soon as that appointment had wrapped up Mina found herself charging toward the dock. Was Oly working today? Or was he at home, resting? Would she scrub this village down looking for him? Absolutely.

That morning's catch had been brought in a while ago. Thanks to a good haul, Oly was able to get the last of the supplies he needed to finish his boathouse. Four walls, one of which was mostly a large gate for the boat to pass through, a sloped roof, and some storage cabinets. It wasn't anything fancy, but it would be a nice spot to store spare tools and provide his boat protection from the elements. He was excited to start working on the pulley system for securing the boat out of the water as needed. Currently, he was hanging on a sling from the rafters to install the first and highest wheel of the system. He whistled softly as he did so, his mind at ease with the comfort of knowing he was content with his life. Even if a little uncertainty still lingered, he wouldn't change what he had!

“Oly?” The closer Mina got the boathouse the more she became aware of her surroundings. Should she wait to talk to him when they were in a more private area? She took a steadying breath and drew closer, tentatively peeking her head around the corner before spotting him with a smile. Anxious or not Mina couldn’t help the way her heart fluttered when she saw him. The Hapuna slipped her way inside, and bounced back on her heels with a slow, measured breath. “Are you…I know you’re busy but do you have a moment?”

Oly's brow cocked with surprise. Mina? "I'm inside!" he called out. He just needed a few more turns of the wrench, and the wheel of the pulley would be in place. He looked over when Mina entered and his own pleased smile grew. Could anyone blame him though? "I've always got time for you~" he assured happily. He tucked the wrench into his belt and lowered himself from the rafter quickly. "So, what's going on?" He dropped his tool belt onto the workbench and grabbed a rag to wipe his hands mostly clean.

Mino'aka cautiously moved closer. Her eyes skimmed over his work - both in appreciation at the effort but mainly to avoid looking at Oly directly. She'd come here with all the fervor of a burning star, but now that the moment was here her nerves were getting the better of her.
"Uhm, well..." She scrunched her toes in her soft, worn sandals. "I've been feeling strange for a little while and a healer told me that our summer is about to be very busy. The rest of our lives, actually." One of Mina's hands fluttered down to her stomach where the smallest little bump resided. "You're going to be a dad, Oly. I came over as soon as the room stopped spinning." She gave a little laugh.

Oly's smile dimmed slightly. Mina seemed.. off? A nervous flash of concern that a another secret life was about to come to light made him hesitate moving closer himself. He listened as patiently as he could as Mina explained things. Then the mental gears in his head hit a snag and stuttered to a halt. 'You're going to be a dad, Oly.' There was a solid five seconds of those words echoing in the empty halls of his brain, hearing but unable to comprehend. His eyes went down to where the.. the.. baby....? All at once, the gears spun into overdrive. It hit him like a stone wall as he sucked in a gasp of air. His legs felt more like pudding than flesh and bone, and took a staggered step back to lean against the tool bench. "Whoa.. You're..? We're..? Really?" He raised his hand to rub his jaw under an expression that was shocked, terrified, and excited all at the same time. "We're having a baby?"

There was a shift in his features that had Mina rushing to fill that void. "I didn't want to keep this from you longer than I had to, but I understand if you need some time to-" She raised her hands, almost as if she could keep him from toppling over but Mina's feet remained rooted. Should she go to him? What if he didn't want her too? Just because they were intimate with one another didn't mean he wanted this and that just - "Yes." She squeaked. Mina nodded her head, her hands held frozen in the air before she awkwardly dropped them. "We're having a baby. I didn't know we could so I never worried about it, but - Are you okay? Do you need to sit down?"

Yes. Yes, a baby was on the way. His baby. THEIR baby! He leaned more onto the work bench and now rubbed his face with both hands. "Just a sec. Room doing the spinning thing." He hadn't been expecting that in the slightest. Of all the things Mina could have said... Just a moment ago, he had been just going about his day without a care. Now, he was about to face a lot of cares... Gods, but he wouldn't be doing it alone. He wasn't the only one to just find out they were going to be a parent. Mina had found out alone, and had come all this way to find him... That sparked his willpower into motion, and he swallowed a big lump of fear in order to stand up straight. Maybe his legs weren't completely steady yet, but he moved forward with determination and held out his arms to invite Mina into a hug. After all, he wasn't entirely sure how she felt about it all. "Sorry, yeah, I'm okay." Finally, his smile started to grow. "We'll all be okay. I'll make sure of it."

"Oh! Um, one moment." Mina reached up for the ribbon she used to tie her hair and with a little tug pulled it free. With a spot of magic she was able to summon some water, effectively soaking the cloth to make it cooler, before walking closer to Oly. She stepped easily into his hug and used the opportunity to work the cooling cloth underneath his hair, just against the back of his neck. "You don't have to be; okay, that is. It's a shock and I'm still reeling myself." A thousand thoughts drifted through her mind, but she couldn't say any of them felt bad. Confused, overwhelmed, anxious....but nothing malicious. "So you're...not upset, then? About it?"

The combination of the immediate hug and the cool cloth on his neck sent a shiver along his spine. His arms tightened around Mina and he shook his head. "No, really, okay is a good word." Perhaps not great, but okay. An anxious laugh slipped out and he raised one hand to gently comb his fingers through Mina's hair in a soothing manner. "I'm feeling lots of things.. but, no, I don't feel upset. What about you? Are you upset?"

"Would it be selfish to say a little? Not at the baby, never the baby, but I just started getting paid well enough to have tailored dresses and now they won't fit right." Her hips would never be the same, but maybe that was for the best. It wasn't as if she'd ever had curves to begin with so why bemoan them now? "I'll just have to buy new ones or have some made with an adjustable waistline." That would probably be the smarter option, especially if this happened agai- Mina reached out and popped Oly on the arm. "That's what I was upset about! You knew I'd bought all those gowns and you still aren't carrying the baby. Honestly it would be so much easier to let out your clothes than mine." Mina pouted.

Oly paused a moment before he sighed and shook his head. Don't laugh... "No. It's not selfish. This is.. well, it's going to change a lot of what we've worked hard to accomplish. A little upset is understandable. Including you affording specially fitted clothes." He jumped with surprise at the sudden hit to his arm. His cheeks heated up with bashful confusion. "Gee, Mina. It's not like I actually planned for you to- my clothes?" His brow knit with confusion and he gave an uncertain laugh. "What'd you mean? It's not like we had a choice to pick who gets pregnant."

"Well not now, but we could have, if we'd had the time." She pursed her lips. "Although, if we'd had the time to think it over we probably wouldn't be here at all. At least, not yet." But something in the way he said it, as if it were so obvious that she would have carried the child caught her. "...Do earthlings not get a choice?" Mino'aka frowned up at him.

Could have? Oly continued to try wrapping his head around what Mina was implying. Did she really think he could have been the pregnant one? He blinked at the question, realization slowly sinking in. "You mean Kahikinans do get a choice?" He shook his head, having difficulty comprehending the thought. "I.. yeah, no, we, uh, male earthlings don't have the, uh, 'equipment' for carrying a baby."

"Gender is more of a feeling for us. I don't know the full details of it all - a healer might, if you asked them - but any kind of couple can have children." It felt so normal to her that explaining it felt odd. For Mina it was akin to describing what the sun felt like on her skin or the texture of sand between her toes. But she supposed Oly was struggling with that same thing, if his expression was anything to go off of. "It doesn't matter, though. I'm happy to be the one to do it if it means I can share this with you." Even if her partner had been Kahikinan there would have always been a chance that Mina would have carried their child, so what was the point in fussing over it? If the pay out was being able to hold a child with the same eye's as her lovers Mina would gladly sacrifice the choice. "I just hope you realize how lucky you are."
