She finished watching the video of a group gathering on the moon and had cheered silently for Byakko asking a damn good question. Even if nothing had come out of it. Pity. The program of the old Queen had promised to help. She’d said that she’d call them when she was ready. Okay. Fine. That had to have been the gentle tugging feeling. She lived on this rock too and she didn’t exactly relish the idea of a big, ******** snake eating the universe. So, she accepted the silent invitation and felt herself whisked away to the Moon.
When she got there, she wasn’t sure what she’d been expecting. She glanced around the room, taking note of the rubble and ruin. Grimacing a little at the waste, because she could see the underlying beauty of what must have once been absolutely spectacular, Iapetus took note of the open doorway. And, as she wasn’t sure where else to go, went through. And almost fell over again from shock. This room felt different to the little bit of the palace that she’d seen already. It looked different since it wasn’t completely shreked. And her eyes were drawn to the faintly glowing crystal in the center of the room that reached from floor to ceiling. Stepping towards it, she admired the facets and the way light sparkled and shimmered off of it. If she’d ever been put in charge of dreaming up a magical Moon room, this would have been it.
“Wow,” she breathed. It felt so stupid, but something like this? It deserved a soft, reverential ‘wow’. Moving closer to the crystal, Iapetus nearly shrieked in fright as a gentle, melodious voice began speaking from the void. Clutching her chest and willing her heart to slow down, the senshi of ruthlessness realized that she sort of recognized this voice. It was the same as the hologram of the Queen. She didn’t see the Queen, but maybe that was for the best.
Listening to the voice and eyeing the crystal, Iapetus considered. It sounded like she had all the choice in the world. She could turn and walk right back out. But then, that would be such a d**k move. If a ghost could manage to come up with a quasi solution, what would it say about her if she just noped off? Nah, that simply wouldn’t fly. The choice wasn’t really a choice and probably hadn’t been ever since she’d encountered a talking cat.
“A’ight, Queenie,” she murmured as she marched up to the Tower. “Let’s ******** go.”
Following the voice’s direction, she placed a hand against the crystal and focused. Resonating implied reaching some sort of accord. And since she didn’t want to see the world end anytime soon, she figured that was as good a thing to focus on as any.
Besides, it sure beat focusing on how lonely and silent this place was.
After what felt like literal hours, though it had probably been closer to twenty minutes, tops, Iapetus staggered from the chamber. She wasn’t entirely sure about what had happened, but she’d felt… something as she’d stood in the chill darkness. It had reminded her a little of the story of the red string. Only this string had been airy and golden and for a brief moment, she’d felt so connected to the crystal and had visualized herself pouring everything she could into it. The feeling had ended fairly quickly and she thought that her time here was up. Which was fine. She’d answered the old Queen’s call and, at least for now, it was all she could do.
Leaning against a crumbling wall, she took a deep breath. I’mma just wait here for a second. Then I’ll go home. And do a lot of independant praying.
