Was Nekoite getting the hang of this “being an Agent of the Negaverse” thing? He didn’t know, and honestly, he didn’t think so, yet. Thinking that you were getting the hang of something was, in his experience, usually a one-way ticket straight to a reminder that you weren’t as cool as you thought you were and/or that you still had much left to learn.

Nekoite’s experience here largely amounted to video games, but that was beside the point.

He was learning, though, that he needed to be sneakier while out doing patrol-type things. Mandatory stealth sections in non-stealth games sucked, but getting picked on by Order senshi and Knights would probably keep happening if Nekoite shoved himself too far out in the open. They tended to object to energy-draining, even when you weren’t making a grab at anybody’s starseed. Weirdo behavior, on their part.

Still, the only way to git gud was to learn from past encounters. Thus, Nekoite was sticking to the trees while out in Ramsett Park tonight. They made such nice decoration for the park—Nekoite had to wonder if that was the city’s idea, or DCU’s (maybe, given the proximity to several campus buildings), or somebody else’s—and they made such a nice cover to hide in while taking little donations off of people who wandered by on their way to get dinner or hit the DCU library or whatever.

In his own opinion, Nekoite was doing a really good job of staying in stealth—but then he saw someone interesting a little ways off and they pulled his attention. Were they really out here tonight, cosplaying as………? Moving closer, he saw that their outfit looked shorter than he’d realized from a distance. But that didn’t dissuade him from thinking cosplay? because hey, people came up with new designs for cosplays all the time. Nekoite had gone to his last con as “What if Messmer the Impaler was a magical femboy” rather than a straight-up Messmer cosplay, so maybe that was going on here too?

“Hey, Crossbreed Priscilla?!” Nekoite called out to the person in the blue coat as if trying to greet a friend.

It was only as he got closer still that he felt the Order energy signature on the air, somewhere nearby. But, like, maybe the person in the mahou shoujo Priscilla cosplay wouldn’t be the Order person??

Alcor had been lost in thought, her mind preoccupied with the unsettling electrical storms that had appeared on her world around the time she had, with great reluctance, taken Rakovanite there nearly two weeks ago. In all her years as a senshi, over a decade now, she had never seen anything quite like it.

Destiny City seemed to thrive on the unusual. Oddities and anomalies were practically a part of its identity, particularly around the Star Festival when Almadal made an appearance, or during the holidays… Halloween and Christmas often having their own share of the bizarre. There seemed to be an unspoken expectation that something would happen, though rarely did the same phenomenon happen twice.

Alcor had witnessed plenty of strange occurrences, but these storms? They unsettled her. Her world had always been a rare constant in her life; unchanging and predictable. Ice, endless and untouched. Snow, powdery and pristine. Harsh winds and hail were the worst it had to offer, but for the Senshi of Cold, that was normal.

Electrical storms, however? That was not.

She had powered up in what was thought to be a safe place so that she could return to her world and investigate the anomalies further when a voice cut through the otherwise evening stillness. It was soon followed by the touch of a chaos signature at the edge of her senses which caused her to flinch.

At least it’s not a general… she thought to herself, nerves taught from the stress of time spent with Rakovanite. Fortunately, the strength of the approaching aura was similar to a Lieutenant’s and that was at least someone she could handle.

Alcor waited expectantly for the familiar face of the sassy, over-confidant, formal-fantasy dressed, blue-haired lieutenant (Diasporite) that she knew, and had perhaps a fondness for, to approach. However, when the approaching Agent got close enough for her to make out his features, Alcor had to do a double take; went as far as looking back over her shoulder in case this was one of those embarrassing moments where someone says hi and she responds only to realize that they were talking to someone behind her.

But no, there was no other aura around them. So why was he approaching her like they’d been friends? “Come… come again…?” She stammered through the confusion. “What was that you called me?”

Close enough now, and seeing the girl from the front, Nekoite realized two things in quick succession. First, the Order aura around here was probably definitely coming from her. It felt so much stronger around her, anyway, and okay, he had heard that auras could be somewhat imprecise, but like……? They still had internal logic to them, and it made sense for auras to feel stronger when closer to the source, so the source in question was probably her??

Second—and somewhat more importantly to Nekoite personally—the Order senshi in front of him was not cosplaying as Crossbreed Priscilla. In fact, she was not cosplaying as anybody. That……that was just her special, powered up senshi outfit.…… Oh. Nekoite’s eyes went wide and he glanced away from her, cringing in the way of someone who had put himself in a socially awkward situation without any prompting or undue outside influence. A bright pink blush rose to his cheeks and the chain on his little cat toy jingled as he nervously fiddled with it.

“Oh, uh,” Nekoite fumbled, trying to make his mouth do the words thing when his brain was mostly making noises like those vintage dial-up sound-effects he’d heard sometimes. “Sorry, she’s…… From a distance, your, uh? Your fuku, it—it looked like it might’ve been a cosplay? Of a character from a video game? Her name is Crossbreed Priscilla, so that’s……?? What I yelled at you??? Uh………sorry?”

Throwing in a bright, winning smile probably couldn’t hurt, right?
