It was a good day. A very normal, very mellow, very quiet day. And trusting that is exactly where Aruna went wrong. Horribly, horribly wrong.

Aruna had just been finishing up her rounds, finishing up a patrol, when she rounded a corner and froze. Hunched over a body was a woman with yellow skin and blue hair, someone Aruna vaguely recognized from the meeting she had attended recently. And then the realization sunk in further. This was the person who had eagerly offered to teach people to kill. Oh. Oh she should not be here right now. Perhaps if she left quickly and quietly, the alien woman might not notice her, she thought.

But today, however, was not a lucky day for the Landslide Senshi. As she turned, she nearly tripped over her own feet, her arms pinwheeling as she tried to keep herself from face planting. A small yelp escaped her and she turned slowly to look over her shoulder, foolishly hoping the woman had yet to notice her but knowing that there was no way she didn't.

Grieve has noticed even before the other super had some into view. She'd expected the other to either approach or to steer clear. Either would be fine, but starting to approach and then trying to run off told Grieve two important things.

1. This senshi had s**t environmental awareness
2. This senshi lacked guts
3. This senshi kinda sucked at the job

That was three things, but Grieve decided not to count that last one, as most earth-born senshi kinda sucked at the job. Straightening up from the body at her feet, she called out, "Stop ********' around and get your a** back here." She smiled, nicely for her, which was horrific by any other standard.

"Help me out with this."

Yet again, Aruna's cosmically bad luck struck. She felt a chill run down her spine and she turned to smile anxiously at the alien. Being told to help, she awkwardly walked over and peered down at the body. "Are they.... dead?" She really wasn't sure she wanted to actually know the answer to that. "What do you need me to do?" Good lord she did not want to help, but she had a horrible feeling that saying no was not an option here.

"Yeah, no point in leaving the job half done," Grieve nudged the body with her foot. He'd just died, still rosy cheeked and in uniform. Clearly a lieutenant, at least until the uniform began to fade into jeans and a t-shirt, the stupid plastic baseball bat shimmering until it was nothing at all.

"Pick him up. You know how to lift and carry a person over the shoulder?" This senshi needed a lot of ********' work, but a small lesson in the practicals wasn't a bad start, right?

Color drained from Aruna's face and she felt her stomach turn. Oh. That really was a dead body. She momentarily thought she might be sick.

Swallowing back the urge to throw up, Aruna crouched by the body and murmured an apology before gently starting to maneuver him into a better position to lift. "Did you... really have to kill him? Wasn't there another way?" She ignored the pinprick feeling of tears trying to sting her eyes, closing her eyes tightly for a second. Death was something that always made her feel uneasy, even before witnessing the massive necropolis that was her home world of Aruna. Now, it just made her feel intensely sad.

Taking a breath to calm herself, she blew her bangs from her eyes as she exhaled and lifted the body. "Don't.... don't mistake my helping you for me being okay with killing...." She had tried to sound firm, but she knew that she definitely sounded pathetic, almost like a frightened child trying to talk to a bully.

"Of course there's another way!" Grieve scowled at the girl. "There's not ********' killing him. Too bad for him, I don't like to leave a mess for other people to step in." Though apparently she was fine leaving a mess for other people to carry for her. Well, at least nobody was gonna get chaos rabies off the ********, not anymore.

"And like, ********' sure. I could kidnap him, try to get this ******** to purify. But that needs a wholeass princess, and they gotta want it too?" Grieve groused, and she moved close enough to take hold of Aruna's upper arm. The grip, it should be said, was gentler than any other aspect of the DSS. "I don't even ********' get that, you know? It's not like Cosmos gets people's ********' consent before she purifies them after death."

And then they were in a rather shoddy town of crumbling clay houses, barely a dot on an arid landscape. Overhead, the sky was just dawning, stretching out their shadows with a warm line of sun breaking the horizon. "So anyway. Think of it as like, the ********' scenic route to purification right? So it's only a like, half a murder you're helping clean up after."

"They're people though!" It was the loudest she had spoken since the conversation began, her brow knitting into a scowl that seemed so out of place on her usually soft features.

The shifting of scenery made Aruna's head spin a little bit, her stomach dropping when it registered what had just happened. "Where..... where are we?" She had a horrible suspicion that she really, truly did not want to hear the answer to that, that she under no circumstances wanted the dread that had settled in the pit of her stomach to be confirmed. Because if this was Space, she was so not thrilled. Not at all.

In the back of her mind, what the alien woman said did register though. That those who died aligned to chaos were purified after death. Part of her, a tiny, small, almost insignificant part of her, wanted to ask about it, wanted to learn more. That part, however, was quite easily drowned out by the nausea that came with the quickly rising anxiety of being definitely not anywhere she was familiar with, and remembering she was still holding onto a dead body.

"We're on my world, Grieve, land of plenty...plenty ********' corpses." And there were signs of the corpses, if she cared to look along the walls and doorsteps. the window ledges. Fragments of bone, a skull that was definitely humanoid, tattered pieces of armor that can crumble at a touch. Or a stray kick from the world's senshi as she passed by, only giving it enough attention to spit on what was left of someone's final resting place. Being people clearly didn't mean anything sacred to her.

"You can set them down wherever. If you wanna haul them to time workshop, I'll keep'em pretty for a bit longer." Whatever that meant. Overhead, the sky began to darken to deep purples, and they could feel the rising power crackle along their skin.

"Awwww for ******** sake." With a hiss, Grieve switched directions and headed for one the more intact buildings, "Can't get away from them even in Cosmos' ********' armpit."

"Yours too, huh?" Having visited Aruna itself fairly recently, this wasn't her first time seeing a world filled with corpses. Though the first time seeing them out in the open, at least. "Aruna is... was a Necropolis, from what I could tell. The entire thing is nothing but graves." She spoke softly thought back to her so far only experience with her own planet, still unsure about how she should feel in regards to it.

"You... you've been around for a really long time, right? Not... not meaning any offense by that. I've just only met a few others and don't really know how it all works." Because somehow she thought that saying "I dont know much about people like you" didn't sound as polite and thought it would likely be less well received. Though to be fair, she doubted anything she said at this point would be well received by Grieve.

Aruna's eyes snapped up towards the sky and she felt her blood run cold. She stood up and quickly followed Grieve, or as quickly as she could considering the body she was trying to carry was decidedly larger and heavier than her at five-foot-four and 90 pounds soaking wet. Ultimately giving up on trying to continue dragging him, she set the body against the side of the building before ducking inside after Grieve.

Huh, then maybe she was doing Aruna's world a few extra favors by getting the girl accustomed to handling the dead. "Is, babe, probably more a ********' necropolis than ever, right? The rest of space just came to join it."

There was a bit of grim approval in Grieve's expression as she noted the other senshi putting down the corpse. That's right, virda, kindly child. Let go of needless burdens, the dead being the most needless of all.

The building she led them into was fairly large, with long stone benches, and a statue at the back. It was humanoid, about Aruna's own height. Around it were various clay pots and bones. Settling onto a bunch, Grieve answered, "Yeah, I'm real ********' old. When the worlds all fell and everybody else died, some worlds kept their senshi alive. A few of us ended up sleeping through centuries, but I'm one of those as was awake for all of it. Different worlds died by different means, but the survivors are all ********' crazy for it. You meet one of us, even the nicest and calmest of us? You're meeting someone who is <******** up beyond ******** up."

After throwing the entirety of Deep Space Senshi under the bus, Grieve grinned and added cheerfully, "Some might have known you in your past life, yeah?"

Carefully taking a seat, Aruna listened to the impossibly older senshi. As she spoke, she felt her heart ache, automatically thinking of the kind Helene she had met multiple times before and how gentle he was. Had he gone through unspeakable horrors too, then? And Chang'E as well? Her facial expressions most definitely did not have an inside voice as her sadness reflected easily on her features, brow knitting together. Just how many people had she met that had suffered so terribly?

"This was.... your home then? This planet I mean. You... saw it all happen?" She felt horrible, though somehow she doubted Grieve would enjoy sympathy. "When I visited Aruna, I.... the memory... it was a lot of information all at once, but I think she was all alone at the end. The last person standing vigil. Even with the brief sadness I felt from her though, I doubt it could compare to what you and the others went through..." A bleeding heart, through and through. The naive sort of kind heart who would believe that everyone has good in them and that everyone could be saved, no matter how corrupted. That was the sort of person this Aruna was, all the way to her very core. Perhaps that was why, despite having just dragged a literal dead body and suddenly wound up in space, she was looking at the senshi across from her and trying to understand, trying to offer compassion rather than be terrified out of her mind. Either that, or she was just plain foolish and stupid.

Aruna's sad face was met with one distinctly grossed out, like Aruna had farted on her soup. "Don't feel sad about this place. Most others were nice but this one wasn't. N'besides, I was the one who killed most of them in the end." Well, the ones strong and ruthless enough to survive the early years of the fall.

The description of Aruna's previous incarnation in the end had Grieve's expression softening a bit, from disgust to something a lot more tired. "There's no point in comparing, anyway. She was stuck there most of her life, yeah? And stuck in the end too." At least Grieve had the excitement and challenge of her versus her whole ********' world in the end. Even if winning had meant the same damn vigil was waiting for her.

Honestly, if she had to finally die and it was on that soft and abundant world of Earth? It would be nice, almost indulgently so, to die among friends. Maybe that was greatest defiance they had against all the many flavors of chaos they were still being faced with.

"She did a good job, right up till the end," Grieve offered after a pause. "But don't ********' take up that mantle unless you really like cataloguin' the dead."

It was one of the silent storms outside, the lack of sound making the sky outside the crude windows seem an entire world away.

The way Grieve spoke made Aruna pause, listening carefully. "You.... knew her? Aurelia, or.... the previous Aruna, I mean?" The idea that someone knew however she had incarnated from fascinated her and, for a moment, she forgot her apprehension and fear of the woman. "That's incredible... and must be really jarring. To see someone in two different lifetimes, I mean."

And then it sunk in. She had seen the previous Aruna before she had died. And now here she was, carrying that name however many hundreds of years later. She did her best not to frown or show sympathy, having noted the look of disgust, but still, it showed through. "That.... actually that must really suck. I'm sorry." Aruna chewed her lip in quiet thought for a moment before speaking again. "If you'd want... once it's less desolate, I would be happy to bring you there? To Aruna, I mean." If the previous bearer of her starseed had been someone Grieve cared about or was friends with, she wanted to extend that to her.

Her gaze moved to look out at the storm, and she frowned. It almost could be pretty if it didn't mean actual impending doom. "Have you... faced something like this before?" She gestured at the storm outside, eyes still fixed on the purple lightning.

"Yeah, was a bit of a hardass but an alright sort." Leaning back, Grieve idly nudged a pot with her toe. "You'll get used to it if you manage to live long enough," she gave the girl a doubtful look. Earth was both really ******** soft in its knights and senshi and really ******** dangerous in its chaos. "Senshi dies, and eventually they get reborn. Some senshi die really ********' fast. You meet one and then a few years later you meet them again as a chibi."

Listening to Aruna apologize pointlessly, Grieve shook her head with a grin, "I'm glad I survived. Lot of others didn't, but that's their problem." Aruna's problem. "The shitty thing is that the universe is so much smaller now. There's so few worlds out there now, and they're just...ghosts. The art and food, the festivals and plays. The stores. The people...Aruna, babe, there were so many different types of people. And they're all ********' gone. And none of that's gonna come back with a ********' starseed, y'know?"

She paused for a long, oppressive stretch, staring toward the statue. "But yeah, take me to Aruna. May as well pay some ********' respects."

The lightning flashed again, bringing out the harsh planes of Grieve's face as she fell silent. World Eater or not, how could it measure in scope to the fall of all worlds?
