Backdated to Feb 23rd Following (insert rem meeting here)

Chalcanthite was tired already, still aching from having that mirror shatter in his face, but there was too much to do. There was no way of knowing how fast things would move, and he needed to get a viewpoint from anywhere that wasn't on this planet's surface. He'd been thinking of the young woman as a possible starting point, someone who would probably go along with the investigation or might perhaps know more than he did about things.

Standing in the park, early in the morning, he had discarded the long coat of his uniform in exchange for a plain black long coat. It kept prying eyes of passers by from paying him much mind as he fiddled with his notebook, going over what he knew so far and what avenues he needed to follow up on.

Occasionally he ran his fingers over the medallion tucked into the pocket of his coat, hoping it wouldn't act up again for the moment. The last thing he needed was more variability in things, it was already frustrating enough that the mirrors had felt like sludge when traveling through them, or that powering up had given him, a general of over a decade, trouble this morning.

Looking down at his bandaged hand, he sighed at the sour start this all had between having his ribs given a shock in that odd space in wherever they had been and the glass that had him looking like he'd had a fight with a sink disposal or a rather fiesty cat. At least, he hoped, Ekstrom wouldn't attack him on sight. That was better than most other things at this point.

No, she wouldn’t attack him on sight, though the state of him surprised her a bit when she did finally spot him. It’d been a while since they last actually saw each other, but they’d kept in touch through the method established during their first meeting. He looked better back then; at present, he looked a bit worse for wear. Exhausted? Was probably the right word for it, at least to her.

“I almost hate to ask,” she said as she approached, eyes on his bandaged hand, “but what happened? Are you okay?”

It seemed a silly question to ask, but she was the sort to ask it all the same. Ekstrom offered him a comforting little smile, slightly subdued given his state. It seemed almost rude to be too bright.

Looking up, he did offer a weary smile in return as he tucked his notebook away and returned to rubbing at his bandaged hand slightly.

"That odd storm that has been going on, has been causing some issues with things and I," pausing for a moment as he shook his head, "had the unfortunate luck of having a mirror explode in my face while trying to look into things." There were still some nicks on his face, luckily just near the edge of his jaw and cheek but he'd blocked most of it with his hands.

"Are you alright though? Something appears to be going on in space and it has me worried. Something feels like it may be approaching from space and I have an inkling of what it might be." At that he pulled his notebook back out and showed her the sketches of the murals he'd seen and interacted with. He wasn't going to pull his tablet out, just in case his team messaged him for orders during the short time they would be looking at things.

Ekstrom made a little “o” with her mouth as he explained, and by the end she couldn't help the worry that flooded her usually cheerful blue eyes. “Sounds like it could have been a lot worse,” she replied, leaning up however slightly–he was a lot taller than her–to try and get a better look. Just a few nicks to his face, but she imagined his hand might have been a lot worse.

“I’ve been...okay? Nothing unusual at least, as far as I can tell.” She gestured skyward. “Beyond the storm, I mean.”

She frowned at that, and was grateful for the distraction of his very informative sketches. She pulled her own notebook out and jotted down notes as fast as she could. Not that any of it made any sense to her at the moment, so when she was finished she looked down at the scribble with brows furrowed in a mix of confusion and concern. “Hopefully some of this eventually starts making sense. I’ve been meaning to ask around, but,” she got caught in a private, very personal little slump, “things kinda got away from me.”

Looking up again to meet his eye, she went on. “Considering the storm’s also on Mercury, I have a kinda bad feeling it’s hit the entire galaxy. Possibly even beyond that. You said you might have an idea of what it is?”

The fact that she had to lean up did almost cheer the mood, given how close she seemed to be in height to Liam. But he didn't say anything about it and let her look for now.

"Yes, it very well could have been but someone pulled me away in time." No need for her to worry too much, though he did appreciate the thought.

"I saw some things, that mirror I mentioned was showing space, a blue planet though I have no idea if it is important. Also, someone has been struck by that lightning as well. It caused no harm other than a mark but that too faded apparently after some time." It had been in the database, something he was checking more frequently as information rolled in of odd occurrences from those who hadn't been pulled into that place. He still couldn't exactly say what it was, the idea of it being a prison or a cage had come up, but he was open to any other ideas once more information came in.

At the mention that the storm was also on Mercury, he did write that down in his notebook as well. "That is concerning. Something seems to be coming, perhaps the thing depicted in that mural with the spikes or something that is symbolized by that thing. Either way, with it coming from space, I want to see if anyone might know something or if they have seen something. Someone had mentioned mythology, a serpent of some sort, but I want to avoid any undue concern or worry." Though he already had plenty of that himself, enough that it had him sleeping less.

Absolutely none of what he said sounded like good news, and the more he said, the worse it seemed to get.

Noe to mention how much more worried she felt, and the more guilt crept in as she realized how myopic she’d been, focusing on progressing her own Wonder forward and paying very little mind to things outside of that. It’d been fine up to now; things had for the most part remained par for the course since she’d really dug her heels into doing Knight work. Up to now, patrolling and preventing Chaos from hurting innocent civilians had been enough. Clearly that wouldn’t be enough this time around. Things were changing. There was a lot more at stake now, with this storm rolling in…which meant she’d have to step up and try to do more.

“I don’t know much,” she said, fidgeting with the keys on her belt. She had a tendency to fidget with something these days, when she was getting nervous. “But if you wanna see for yourself, I can try and take you with me.” Try being the operative word. She wasn’t actually sure if Chaos was welcome on Wonders and Homeworlds.

Part of him felt bad for being the bearer of bad news but with their suggestion, it at least would get him another viewpoint on things. Even if he didn't get anything more in regards to the order senshi who might be holding the other spikes, it would be best to get as many points of view on things as possible and get people involved no matter what side they were on.

"It is perfectly fine not to know much. I feel like many of us are running around in a slight panic." That was an understatement for some, he felt, or an overstatement for others.

"Given I have never had an intention to bring you harm, there should be no problem bringing me. In fact... I had someone from Ganymede bring me to their wonder after I had gotten into some trouble with my general over our disagreement about things..." Sighing slightly, he rubbed at the back of his head. It hadn't been particularly useful then, but it had given him another possible target to bring to his side of things.

"It may help, having a second set of eyes with you to see what might be going on. I only ask if I may take a few notes of what I see? If not that is perfectly fine. I just want to try getting any other viewpoints I can to try and figure out what I can do to help."

She listened carefully as he explained, nodding whenever it felt right to do so to indicate her understanding.

“That makes sense,” she murmured mostly to herself as she turned the information over in her mind a couple of times. “And more sets of eyes would be helpful, so take whatever notes you need about the storm.” Ekstrom offered him a sheepish, almost apologetic, little smile at the none-too-subtle way she drew the proverbial line. Granted, she couldn’t stop him from actually taking such notes even if she asked, but at least the boundary was there.

Extending a hand, she said, “Whenever you’re ready. I should warn you, we’re gonna pop up inside a literal ice box so we can meet up after you grab a good coat if you want.”

Nodding, he pulled a scarf from subspace and pulled it around his neck and up over his mouth partially. It wouldn't do well for him to have issues breathing because of the cold, something he knew was most likely going to happen.

"Of course, I want to see what I can do to help. This is bigger than any single side of things after all." Once he felt like he was as prepared as he could be for the cold weather, he took her hand and nodded again.

"As ready as I can be, the cold never does well for me, but I should be fine enough as is."

Ekstrom smiled–one of knowing, because that scarf, while its efforts would be admirable, wouldn’t do him too much good where they were going. But he’d figure that on his own soon enough. As soon as he took her hand and said he was ready, she took a deep breath, slowly exhaling as she recited the words in her mind.

– [ ] –

The lights in the main entrance flickered to life just as they appeared, though these were still only the emergency lights so it wasn’t that bright, but at least they could see. Upon opening her eyes, Ekstrom felt a small wave of relief wash over her as she glanced around. The place was still a mess–dust everywhere, evidence of a battle throughout, with armor and remnants of clothing strewn about, alongside any loose furniture. There was no evidence of any kind of door into or out of the space, but careful inspection of the walls might yield etchings of symbols that were obviously meant to guide.

Or at least, provide labels so whoever was here knew what was where.

“The entrance is over here,” she said as she walked toward a seemingly blank wall. Pressing her hand to the center, though, and channeling some of her magic, she soon pushed open the main doors, welcoming a gust of frigid, Mercury air from the outside. “We’ll have to head up if you want a view of the storm. I haven’t gone yet, mostly because it seemed risky to go alone, so I’m not sure what to expect. If you're okay with that, follow me."

With that she headed outside, a lone panel soon appearing from the ground when she got to a certain point. This time, once she set her palm on its surface, again channeling her energy, the giant, iced over platforms shifted to make way for a staircase to cascade over them, making way for them to more easily access the surface.

Some notes:
  • The stairs are about five feet across and completely made of ice, but as long as Ekstrom’s with them they’re grippy-grippy with little chance of slippy!
  • At nighttime there’s lighting on the outer edges of the stairs, but also there’s thin, glowing data lines traveling through the steps.
  • It’s probably a 15 minute climb!
  • The stairs are hidden beneath what looks like a frozen lake in the middle of the shelf. This camo (which Ekstrom can, and probably will turn off) will be behind them as they surface.
  • It's a flat tundra up above, and at night I think it’s supposed to be extra cold on Mercury.
  • There are some exposed metallic surfaces from devices she hasn’t looked into yet. They can range from completely fried from taking too many lightning hits to perfectly pristine.
  • I’m cleared for above average lightning activity at her Wonder, so have at it~
