The lightning outside had given Sakura and uneasy feeling. Though it had dissipated by now, she still felt wary as she watched the sky, clutching her phone close. She had sent a text to Ei, asking if she was alright, but had yet to receive a response. She knew her partner was reliable and could take care of herself, but that did nothing to ease the gnawing anxiety in the pit of her stomach.

Firing off another quick text to Ei, she grabbed a jacket and left the house, waiting until she was far enough away before powering up.

'Gonna go out and see if I can learn anything about the weird storm. Care to join me?'

Ako sighed and took to the rooftops, wanting to get a better view of everything as she made her way around, heading to the park she usually found herself at. If Ei decided to join her, it would be a predictable enough place to find the Senshi at.

Ei hadn't meant to ignore Sakura's texts--she'd been looking over a client file, which seemed to occupy lots of her time now that she was getting her PI business back off the ground. It seemed the best idea--set up inside with a glass of wine and her notes, go over them while the storm rattled outside.

She glanced over at her phone between lines, and that was when she spotted the texts, and she huffed. Of course Sakura would reach out, and she was a fool for ignoring it.

She set her wineglass and her file aside, and picked up her phone to send a quick message back,

Text to Sakura
I'm fine. I'll meet you at the park to investigate together.

Better than doing it alone.

So she was off herself, powered up and with a rain poncho tugged over her uniform in case the storms kicked up more. When she found Ako, she produced a second one form her subspace and offered it to her girlfriend.

"Are you alright?" She asked. "No ill effects from the weather?"

Pacing back and forth as she thought, Ako didn't notice her phone when the reply came. Deep in thought, her footprints leaving little flames and cinder filled marks in her wake, she nearly didn't notice when Kaga even arrived. Jumping slightly as she was broken from her thoughts, she turned with a swish of fabric and tasseled ribbon, and smiled brightly at the taller woman, always glad to have her company.

"I'm alright. I was inside when the lightning was going on." She came closer and took the poncho with a small thanks, standing on her toes to kiss Kaga's cheek. "Oh and, uh. Tada?" She gave her an excited grin as she gestured to her newly changed appearance, stepping back slightly so she could see the new fuku better. "Chalcanthite and Axenite thought I proved myself, or at least that's what Chal told me, so I got rewarded with an upgrade." It had only happened within the last 24 hours so she hadn't had a chance to show off until now. She seemed to almost bounce in excitement as she spoke, feeling a little giddy now that she knew those close to her were safe.

Ah. Kaga hadn't really noticed at first, but--yes, Ako was different. A broad smile appeared on her face, and she reached out to cup Ako's cheeks, pulling her in for a brief kiss.

"I'm glad you're alright, and congratulations," she said. "You look lovely. You always do, but power looks excellent on you." The Negaverse really had been so incredibly good for her. And Kaga was lucky enough to get to witness it all, and she'd hopefully get to witness even more.

"You deserve this, darling. I'm glad they recognize that."

Ako's heart did backflips at the kiss, which she returned happily. She smiled vibrantly and took her hand, squeezing it lightly. "I think it's also because of whatever might be brewing, to be honest. Chal is....he won't outright say it but I think he's worried. Something happened and he's playing it close to the chest until he figures it all out, I think." She sighed, rubbing circles on the back of Kaga's hand with her thumb. "I have this awful, ominous feeling that something big is going to happen, and that it won't be fun. It...scares me, if I'm being honest." She looked up at the sky, as if she stared hard enough that it might reveal why the strange lightning storm had happened.

"You know.... I don't say it enough, but I'm really happy. Really, really happy. And I get the sense that it's been a really long time since i was happy like this, that i thought i would never be able to feel like this. So....whatever happens, I want to be strong enough to protect that happiness no matter what." Her words were soft, almost as if she was scared to say it out loud. She hoped that Kaga would understand what she meant, that she would do whatever it took to ensure her girlfriend was safe, as well as the handful of others who had become precious to her.

Kaga nodded. "Whatever it is, I hope that we can find a way through it. But I trust our leaders. The General-Sovereigns and the Queen. If we need more information, we'll be given it."

Perhaps that was the unique position they were both in--having Generals that were, generally, trustworthy. Plus, Aquamarine was married to a General-King, so surely if anything was going on he'd be well informed.

Still, Ako's words made her smile, fondly.

"It shows," she said. "You seemed so despondent when we first met. But you've changed, for the better. And I'm glad if I contributed to that, in any small way." She reached out to brush her fingers over Ako's cheek. "We will protect each other. Whatever we must do."

Ako smiled up at her with adoration. "I was....not okay, when we first met. I had been ready to just let the next fight I was in end me, if I'm honest. But shortly before I met you, Chalcanthite had offered me a chance to start over. Believe it or not, when you met me first, I was already starting to get better, starting to feel hope again." She knew that she had been in a very, very bad way back then, and she felt bad that she might have worried her.

"You have, you know. You're the reason I keep smiling. You are.... incredibly precious to me. More than I can easily express." She knew there was no question of her feelings, but she continued to dance around a full confession, around using the dreaded L word. Maybe in time, she would be able to tell her that, and be able to tell her why it scared her. Perhaps she could show her the journal that she had left herself sometime, if it would help explain the fear. But for now, she hoped she would understand what she meant to say.

"As for what's coming, Chal is usually rather on top of things, and while he does not trust many, I think he may trust me at least enough to keep me informed on anything he finds out. So far, all i know is that whatever is coming is a lot bigger than anything being made common knowledge." While she wished more than anything that she could tell Kaga everything she knew, she also would never dream of betraying Chlcanthite's trust in her when he had told her what he knew. She chewed her lip, thinking for a moment. "If I could get him to agree to it.... what would you say to meeting with Chal with me? He... may be able to share more information that way. And he's... also like family to me, so... I wanted to introduce you properly at some point anyway. Since it's his house I'm staying in and all that." She knew that Liam would have no reservations about her girlfriend and welcome her warmly, but Aloy on the other hand was always cautious. Perhaps a proper introduction would help, and they both could share with Kaga what they knew.

The thought of a world without Ako's spark in it felt...wrong. Perhaps Kaga was biased by the way this woman had made hearth and home in her heart, but to imagine her snuffed out....

"I am so glad that Chalcanthite found you. That he offered you a better option." For both of their sakes. "You have become...irreplaceable to me." To say the very least. There were other words Kaga could say, but perhaps that was too large a jump, too quickly--and honestly, she would be happy to take her time.

Ako had been through so much. But they surely had time.

She nodded, smiling slightly wryly. "Aquamarine and Jet have indicated similar, yes. It seems we face quite the threat." Something beyond what any of them had seen before. But she trusted that they would find a way. "I would be glad to meet Chalcanthite, yes. I understand that he, too, was one of those brought to the strange prison in space? And, in any case, I would want to meet someone so important to you."

Her arms slid around Kaga to pull her into a warm hug, just wanting the comfort. "I feel the same way about you, you know." She rested her head against her shoulder, sighing happily at how right this felt.

The mention of the space prison made Ako snort softly. "Yes. I'm not sure how much he would like me to say freely though, as he did stress that the information he shared with me was to stay between him and myself. I have all the trust in the world for you, but I also know that if I say too much, it would betray his trust, and that seems like something that is hard won. I do, however, think he would really like you. He appreciates people who work hard. And I know for a fact his fiance would also adore you. Imagine a golden retriever mixed with a sunflower and a walking ray of sunshine." She laughed softly and smiled up at Kaga. "They both have taken very good care of me since taking me in, his fiance even making sure I eat and take care of myself and even bringing me food. They're the closest thing I have to family, and they mean the world to me." She blushed a little as she quietly added "Though you, perhaps, mean even more than that to me."

"I know," Kaga said, sliding her arms around Ako and holding her close. They fit together so well, it felt....good. Correct. Like something she had not realized she was missing until it was there.

"We can speak to him, and I'll accept whatever he's comfortable sharing." Kaga said, simply. He might have things he preferred to keep close to the chest, which was reasonable; and if nothing else, she knew much of what had been reported to and by Jet and Aquamarine, which was a start. "I don't have much in the way of family," things were different for her, and she was fine with that, "but I treasure the chance to meet yours, even if I can't reciprocate."

Ako's confession was met with a fond smile, and a press of lips to her hair.

"You mean much to me, as well."

Ako felt a small wave of sadness at the thought of Kaga being alone. "Well, I can absolutely assure you that Liam at the least will adopt you into the family instantly." She smiled softly and held her just a little tighter.

Sighing softly, she let go and looked up at her. "So. We both know about the space prison, and I'm sure Chalcanthite will be happy to meet with you and allow me to speak more freely about it. Until then... shall we just make our way around the city and see if anything is out of place? Or we could also go back to my place for now?"

Kaga laughed. "I see," she said. She'd never felt much urge to seek out a "new family"; generally, she was quite happy with her independence. But it was still sweet of Ako to worry.

"We can take a short walk, and then I'd be happy to retire to your place for the evening." Honestly, it would be a much more pleasant one, spent with Ako rather than at home in her apartment. "Do our due diligence and then enjoy our evening together."

A reasonable compromise between duty and pleasure, she thought.
