On the evening of Friday, February 21st, Destiny City was hit with a strange storm. Dark clouds hung over the city all day but it wasn’t until later in the evening that the storm erupted. The lightning was near constant and erratic, sometimes silent and sometimes loud and booming. The skies turned an odd shade of purple during the storms. The city had been expecting storms but this was something beyond their imagination. The air was dense, thick with a strange energy. Energy gathering characters might have noticed that they had increased gains, as if it were possible to gather energy from the air itself in addition to their intended target.
Lightning struck almost constantly, and Destiny City reported a number of minor damages. The storm lasted for only about half an hour before it seemed to burn itself out. Scientists have attributed the strange colorations to light pollution and a chemical reaction. Reports say there’s nothing to worry about.
Maybe you know better.

Nate had been puttering around in the kitchen, prepping food for the week, when the weather that had been promising to ruin the day finally showed its furious potential. The first few drops of rain didn’t have him reacting, but when a crack of thunder sounded right outside of the window he jumped, nearly slicing his hand open. With a muttered curse he quickly put down the knife and moved to wash his shaking hands. That lightning strike had to have been close considering that clap of thunder.
He started to move rapidly when Sarah started to cry. She had been taking a nap but even she couldn’t sleep through such a racket. “Daddy’s coming princess,” Nate called out as he quickly dried his hands. “Daddy’s here, its ok darling. It's ok. It’s just thunder.” He did his best to sooth the terrified two year old, scooping her up from her bed and cuddling her close. “It’s just a sound. Like the cars or the birds. See?” He tried to explain to the sobbing child, rocking her as he walked over to the window.
The flickering of light outside was erratic and as he patted Sarah’s back Nate tried to count the seconds between the flashes and the rumble of thunder but it soon became apparent that it was impossible to tell just which crack of thunder went with which flash of lightning. “Look princess. It’s just lightning. When you hear that big rumble it's because of the lightning.” He tried to urge the child to look at the lights, explaining it as simply as possible but also keeping anything mystical out of it. Especially since he noticed the distinctly odd shade of purple the sky was currently. The city was already teeming with magical energy, he didn’t want to manifest anything by even thinking that this storm was unnatural. Even if purple skies were strange, there were a lot of random lighting strikes, and the very air felt thick with energy… he could tell even through the thick safety windows.
“No Daddy! Noooooo,” His little girl sobbed into his chest. She shook her head and tried to twist away. “No big sound! No flashes! No, no, no, no!”
“Okay, okay,” Nate crooned and took her into the other room, away from the windows. “No thunder, no lightning. I promise.” He cuddled her even closer, noting the sobs were drifting off to sniffles. “Lets just sit here and listen to music.” The doting father settled onto the couch, flicking on the tv to a soft music channel, and bundling them both up in a blanket. The toddler dozed back off, her thumb in her mouth, but Nate sat there watching from across the room as the storm played out in the skies above Destiny City. The rain wasn’t all that much to write home about, it was the lightning that was something to behold. He just hoped that there was no real damage from it, nor that it was a harbinger of ‘things to come’. Neither would be good but the second one was much more spine chilling.
Especially since Dessie wasn’t currently there… She was at her homeworld doing what she called maintenance. He wasn’t entirely sure what that meant, outside of light cleaning, but Nate hoped this storm, or whatever had caused it, wouldn’t affect her returning from Antares. “Hurry home soon my love,” He said quietly to the absent Dessie. “Hurry home.”
