Stephanie had finished up the last of his coursework and communicated his latest orders to his head steward back in Phronese, so he finally had a few moments to relax. And that was when he realized that he had not eaten for hours and his stomach was protesting that neglect. He really had no one to blame but himself; Humphrey had gently tried to interrupt him at one point and he had waved away the concern. He supposed he should have at least asked for something he could nibble without diverting his attention too much. No matter; now that he was free he could simply go to the cafeteria himself and save his manservant the trouble. The prince rose to his feet and moved to stand before the floor length mirror that he could not actually see his reflection in. He had left his eyes their natural brown for most of the day, but maybe he could try something more interesting. An icy blue? A beautiful and unforgettable purple, like his sister’s? Something bold like red? Behind him, Stephanie heard footsteps and Humphrey approached to straighten his clothing. ”Should I fetch something fresh from your wardrobe?” Stephanie gently waved off the idea with one hand. ”There is no need to trouble yourself. I will not be out for long; I only intend to take a meal and return.” Humphrey bowed his head respectfully as he stepped back, leaving Stephanie to his seeming perusal of the mirror. But when his stomach grumbled audibly, Stephanie decided that perhaps it was perfectly fine to stick with brown for the day. Stephanie stepped from his room and made his way to the cafeteria with Humphrey quietly following on his heels. He took a seat and waited for the menu that he could not read; he had already decided what he would have before it was even given to him. Stephanie made a habit of skimming the minds of other diners to determine what dishes were on offer and which had gained the most favor from the students around him, but he still made a point of studying the menu in feigned indecision for a moment before placing an order. He had come clean about his blindness to Aleithia, but had not in any way relaxed his routine before others. He dared not even assume that Humphrey already knew, though if anyone else did then it would be his loyal and ever present manservant. It was a thought that had occurred to Stephanie recently, especially after learning that Alethia had suspected all along. If she had managed to hide the thought from him, she might not be the only one. But the prince would not bring it up with his servant; he thought he might sooner throw himself in the closest river. It was certainly not worth thinking about while they were in public where he rarely spoke to Humphrey at all unless it was to relay his orders. In fact he rather doubted he would be speaking to anyone while he took his meal; his sister was not with him and he had made no effort to seek other company.

tab Alosa had been having a busy day so far. She had taken time out of her day to see if she could find a couple of Luka's little statues and only found the one. It looked like another sparrow and she spent a few moments admiring it before making mental note of the location. She had headed to classes and in the moment was in the library looking for a book. She was never too big on reading school texts but she had found them becoming very useful now more than ever. She didn't realize what time it was but she felt her stomach begin to feel funny; and before she knew it a growl came from her. Her cheeks went red and she was suddenly very grateful she was hidden behind the shelves. Putting the book back not wanting that to risk happening in front of the librarian she ducked out of the maze that was the library. She headed to the cafeteria and as her eyes scanned the tables she caught sight of a familiar face. Once she had not seen since the history class. Her pink eyes lit up and she inhaled excitedly before she walked up to the table Stephanie was at, setting her hands on it and looking down at him with a wide smile.
tab " Stephanie! It's so good to see you. How are you?" she hadn't noticed the way he looked over the menu as he had already handed it in. She looked back over her shoulder as someone walked up to her and handed her a menu as well, her hand raising to take it, before she waved to them and looked back to Stephanie. " Do you mind if I join you? I just got here myself, haven't settled anywhere yet!" she had lowered her voice since it was just the two of them but hadn't lost any of her enthusiasm that she carried with her.
When he agreed to her joining, she sat down across from him and looked down at the menu in her hands. It was all the same from the other day so she quickly knew what she wanted, handing it back and ordering her food. She leaned her arms on the table and looked back to Stephanie with a smile. " It's good to see you outside of class, I don't see you around a lot I've noticed." She usually took the time to look around if she knew anybody which often resulted in her running into the wall or another person but she always seemed to get herself out of trouble fairly easily. Except with one person, and she avoided him as much as she could.

A familiar voice called out to him and Stephanie smiled as he rose to his feet, turning toward the young lady who approached his table. ”It is a pleasure to see you as well, Miss Alosa. I am well, as I hope you are?” The prince stepped around the table to pull out another chair. ”Please. I would enjoy the company.” He had not thought to have any, but would happily make an exception for this person in particular. Once Alosa was seated, Stephanie returned to his seat. For the first time he was able to take in her appearance, albeit indirectly. The dark hair and pink eyes almost reminded him of Aleithia, though his sister’s eyes were more violet. But there the similarities ended; Stephanie had never known his sister to wear anything quite like Alosa’s woodlands themed dress and knee high stockings. His impression of the clothing was faint, however; Humphrey was far too polite to stare at a young lady. Stephanie paused for a moment of thought when Alosa mentioned that she rarely saw him outside of class. He had not really thought about it, but he tended to spend his time in his room if he was not in class. He had no extracurriculars and very few friends. But that hardly seemed like a pleasant thing to say to Alosa. ”I suppose you are right. I’m afraid I’ve been quite busy going over some correspondence from home. But it is quite nice to find someone familiar to share a meal with.”

Alosa was excited that she had found her new friend. She was honestly a little worried about how things would go with what had happened with having to have led him around in the last major event that was history class. She knew he was more capable than he was allowed to show then but when he stood and seemed to be able to see at least kind of what he was doing her eyes lit up. She was now a little more aware because he had means of whatever his powers were to help him see and that meant he might have a greater chance of seeing her reactions but she was more excited than worried. " Thank you!" she had taken a seat, her feet folding underneath her before she spun her pink eyes back to Stephanie. He looked better now that they were in a safe situation, and surely she did as well. She wasn't very put together back then, but then again she wasn't as regal or formal as he had seemed to be. She slowly had begun to realize that she was likely one of the more childish out of the royals, but she didn't really care. She was true to herself, and that's what mattered, right? She leaned her head on her hands as she laughed under her breath at a thought before she voiced it. " I'm so glad you're able to figure out how to see. I would be happy to hold your hand around the school but I'm sure that would get looks, and my brother certainly wouldn't be too pleased." she was teasing, but only halfway at the last point, Luka had been so worried about her that he hadn't said much to her about holding hands with a new person but he also knew her well.
She tilted her head as he seemed to hesitate at her statement of not seeing him around much and his reply made absolute sense! " Oh I see, it must be quite interesting for you to spend so much time on it." she couldn't help her curiosity about where he was from, chiding herself in her head to keep the thought just there. She wasn't supposed to ask and she knew that. Certainly Stephanie knew that as well. She hummed, another thought popping into her mind. " Would you consider us friends? Or at least in process!" she smiled brightly, her excitement slipping into her voice as she got a little loud at the end and covered her mouth before she leaned forward a little more. " I'll happily spend time with you if you want it. All you gotta do is find me!" she chimed happily, before she intentionally lowered her voice and spoke again. She was a little nervous if she was honest, but she flicked her eyes over to Humphrey and smiled at him too. " You work for Sir Stephanie?" she started before looking back to Stephanie himself. " Oh yeah, can I call you Steph? That would be easier to say every time, and it suits you!" she wouldn't if he didn't want her to, but she'd also try to come up with another nickname for him too.

Alosa’s thoughts fluttered through her mind without inhibition, including ones she clearly would have hidden if she had known that Stephanie could hear them. Much as she was apparently schooling her expression more now that he might be able to see it than she had when he was completely blind. He supposed it was natural; everyone had something to hide and he had no intention of prying too deeply. Stephanie was not entirely surprised that Alosa brought up his blindness, especially in light of his behaving normally now. He was a bit uncomfortable with the topic, but he could hardly avoid it. ”Yes, everything has been returned to normal now including my sight.” It was not a lie so much as it was a misdirection. His sight was returned to normal, or what had been normal for him since he was still only a boy. ”I must say, it is nice to have such a lovely face to match with the pleasant voice that guided me through that nightmare. It is no wonder that your brother would be suspicious of any man holding your hand for far too long.”A slight smile softened Stephanie’s features. He could understand the sentiment all too well, having a beautiful younger sister of his own. His instinct was to drive away any worthless mutt unworthy of sharing the same air as her. It was not the right way to think, of course. And he would never truly drive anyone away who found her favor. Now even more than before he dared not allow himself to cage her in that way. But that did not mean that the instinct had died; he did not think that it could. He just had to rise above it. But that was neither here nor there. After all, Alosa was not his sister, but rather his… friend, perhaps? Stephanie chuckled as Alosa politely said that his correspondence must be quite interesting. ”Gods no, I am sure you would find it aggressively boring. However, it is very important and there are some tasks that I cannot leave to others just because I am away, attending classes.” Stephanie could not be certain of Miss Alosa’s background, but if she was attending Utopia then he could only assume that she also had a noble upbringing and would have some idea of what he meant. There were decisions he should be the one making, no matter how much he may trust his stewards back home. When Alosa spoke next, it was almost as though she was reading his mind. Were they friends? He had only just tentatively broached the thought with himself. And when asked, his smile grew somewhat wider. ”I would like to think that may be the case.” She was offering to spend time with him? What would they even do? Stephanie did not like to think of himself as boring, but… he had no hobbies, he could not even read any longer, he only listened to music and drank wine. He dared not even overindulge lest he make a fool of himself. But was he really going to turn down pleasant company just because he did not know what to do with it? ”I will have to take you up on that offer. Hopefully between us we can find a better use for our time than writing letters.””Yes, Miss.” Humphrey replied with a sharp bow, heels clicked together and spine rod straight. ”Is there aught I may do for you?”Steph? Stephanie paused to consider this. He was surprisingly unaccustomed to having his name shortened. But did it honestly trouble him? Steph. She had said that the nickname suited him. If they were to be friends, he supposed a nickname would be far less stiff. ”You may, if you like.” he decided at last. Steph… Should he use a nickname for her, as well? He did occasionally call Aleithia by one. But truly, nothing came to mind; perhaps he would give it further thought at another time.

Alosa felt herself getting more and more comfortable with the fact that he could see now, although it did make her wonder about his kingdom of origin with his possible powers having to do with his vision. She tried hard to not think about it too much as she didn't want to be even tempted to ask. Where he was from had nothing to do with being friendly with him after all. His spoken compliment made her smile almost shyly, placing her hand against her cheek softly. " How sweet of you, thank you! I have to be honest, I'm almost glad you couldn't see me then. I was not myself." even as the words left her lips, she realized how it could have sounded. " I mean, not that I was glad you couldn't! Just that I've never been in such a situation and--" she cut herself off with a huff and pouted. She needed to pull herself together, she couldn't get away with hiding the redness in her cheeks anymore if she were to have a moment. She smiled sheepishly and chose to focus on his words regarding her brother. " He's a little protective, although it's kind of nice. I haven't had that since my sister." she left it at that before she bit her lip. ' Definitely not a good first regular conversation topic! Shush.' she told herself.
Her expression faltered for a moment before she laughed to herself, his blunt honesty making her relax her shoulders. She appreciated his words as it both made her feel that much better to know he cared about his people, and that he knew it could be boring. " I usually do, if I'm being honest!" she smiled and leaned her head on her hand after shaking her head softly. " I know I used to doze off in classes, thankfully my father is still in charge so I don't have to take up that mantle yet." she knew she wasn't supposed to say what she was, or where she was from, but certainly that could be taken as either duchess or royalty.
Her eyes lit up brightly and she smiled as he agreed that they may be getting close to friends. She sucked in an excited breath before she nodded her head. " I'm glad! Going through something like that class I can imagine can be a pretty good bonding activity." she laughed quietly before pushing her hair back with one hand. " I'm sure we can, we'll have to see if we can find something to do after we eat! I don't think we have classes for a little while anyway, there must be something..." she pressed her finger to her lips as she thought, her eyes shifting to the side slightly as she hummed. " We could go exploring but I don't know where you've been...perhaps we could go look at the art? I think it's quite pretty but that doesn't mean I know much about it...." her thoughts ran freely, only paused when his servant responded to her, and she blinked softly before shaking her head. " Oh no! I merely was curious, it seems like you're doing a wonderful job though." she replied to Humphrey, although his bow made her a little nervous. She was only used to her parents' servants and advisors doing that to her and even that threw her off. She just wanted people to be normal around her. " You needn't do that! Please, it's not necessary." she didn't know how people got used to that, she never wanted someone to bow to her in such a way, it felt so demeaning to them. Sure, she might have been overthinking it but that was what she did best.
After she worked through the complications of those particular thoughts she looked back to Stephanie as he agreed to her nickname. She allowed her smile to form, a wide relaxed one before she leaned forward slightly, taking one of his hands in her own. " I'm glad, Steph!" she probably wouldn't call him by his name often but now at least he would know exactly who was calling out for him if she ever did. " I'm glad that we're friends, even if just beginning to be. It's good to have connections, both here and in our futures." she smiled happily but without being too forward about where she came from. She pictured her kingdom, surrounded by the water and as she pulled her hand back from his she leaned onto it with her chin. " I look forward to many more memories!" she chimed qiuetly before their food arrived and she sat back, thanking the person who delivered it and shifted in her seat briefly before pink eyes flicked up to Stephanie again but she didn't say anything, she just smiled happily and began to eat.

Stephanie had to actually chuckle a little, muffling the sound behind his fist. He did not take Alosa’s words poorly; he well knew that she was not saying that she was glad he had been deprived of his sight. She was just glad he had not seen her in that state, much as Stephanie was somewhat glad that Aleithia had not seen him so helpless. No one wished to have others witness them at their lowest. Alosa had moved on, but Stephanie still had something to say on the matter. ”You need not explain yourself, Alosa. I do understand. But you should know that you have nothing to be self-conscious about. You comported yourself very well for someone who had never been in a war situation before. Your calm demeanor was a greater help than you likely realize; panic is nearly as deadly as a sword in war.”The mention of Alosa’s sister was brief and accompanied with a much tighter hold on her thoughts; it was clearly a topic the young lady did not wish to discuss. Stephanie of course chose to respect that. ”My own sister would not mind if I was a bit less obsessively protective. I suppose it is a shared flaw between older siblings; we have to be reminded that our little sisters have grown into strong and capable young women.”Another chuckle escaped Stephanie when Alosa cheerfully declared that she usually did leave tasks to others. It was so refreshingly honest that it actually caught him off guard; he had not even needed to skim her thoughts. She went on to mention dozing off in classes and Stephanie’s shoulders shook a little with the effort not to laugh again. ”Oh, my. I might be a little jealous.” Not really, he was quite accustomed to being as busy as he was, but it still amused him to say. His mirth subsided somewhat though a smile lingered as Alosa pointed out that their hands on history lesson had doubled as a good bonding activity. She was not wrong; the brotherhood of the battlefield was a very real thing. He was sure he could have thought of gentler ways had that been the actual goal, of course. But he could not complain about having such pleasant company and it seemed to be that he only ever bothered to interact with other students during calamities. Oh, gods… he did hope that would not remain his habit. ”I’ve not really explored at all. And we need not know anything about art to take enjoyment from viewing it.” As long as he was with Alosa, he ought to be able to appreciate the pieces well enough to hold a conversation. ”Whatever you might like to do, I will join you.”Humphrey hesitated when told he did not need to bow. The man straightened and turned his head toward Stephanie as though looking for guidance before facing Alosa once more. ”My apologies, miss, but it would be remiss of me not to show proper respect to Master Stephanie’s peers.”Was Alosa unaccustomed to the mannerisms of servants? No, that did not seem to be quite right… but they did make her uncomfortable. He was honestly not certain what to make of that. He supposed the ideal solution would be to instruct Humphrey to behave more naturally around Alosa. However, he would not be at all comfortable with that. Humphrey was his manservant and he had certain expectations of the man, including in regard to his behavior. But before Stephanie could chime in on that interaction, Alosa had taken his hand and exclaimed how pleased she was that they were friends. Stephanie smiled softly at her earnest outburst. ”I am also glad.” Alosa made a valiant effort not to mention her kingdom of origin, but she could not seem to help picturing it fondly. It was all the hint that Stephanie really needed, but his expression did not change. It was still a forbidden topic and he did not like to draw that sort of attention to himself. Their food arrived and Stephanie gave an appreciative nod to the server. Alosa was watching him. He could feel it. Stephanie turned to her with a small, puzzled smile but she said nothing. Well, he did not think he had anything on his face; he had not begun eating yet. Stephanie did take a small bite of his food then, chewing and swallowing before he spoke again. ”You mentioned artwork. Is that of particular interest to you?”

Alosa hadn't expected her heart to beat in her chest as hard as it did the moment he laughed. It was quiet but it still somehow managed to light up his face. She blinked momentarily before she pulled herself back together and shook her head to calm her thoughts. She had just met him not too long ago! She shouldn't be thinking that he was attractive. [' Especially when he laughs...' she thought to herself before she made herself focus back on the conversation in front of her. He had begun speaking about how she behaved in history class. " Oh." she paused before gently pressing a finger against her lips as she thought. That did make sense, after all if one panicked and lost their wits, they could lose their life. And sure, the history class was all a hallucination, but it felt real right down to the gritty air that they had to breath in. " Well I'm glad to hear it. I certainly didn't feel like I was much help, I..." another brief pause before she breathed in and out to calm herself. " I may be in line to take charge, but I certainly don't know what to do if something like that happened. It just happened that being your eyes even for that short time was something I could do." her voice slowly became softer, and she could feel her cheeks heating before she looked down at her hand and quickly pushed it under the table against her legs. Nope! Not thinking that. Not now.
Alosa focused instead on his words as he spoke of his younger sister. She smiled slightly and nodded her head again. " Yeah, I suppose it's common. I can't blame my brother, or you in that regard, I'm sure you both just want to keep us safe!" she smiled softly and tightened her hands on her legs slightly. She knew she had begun to ramble slightly but the quiet beginning of a laugh from him again made her pause before she waved one hand in front of her. " Jealous? No, I've been sheltered my entire life, I haven't been given the chance to try to do anything with any sort of power." she stuttered softly at the beginning of her sentence, cursing her nerves before she took his momentary distraction to pull herself together. She hoped he wasn't seeing this, but surely he was. At the least, hoping that he wouldn't quite call her out on it at least. " That's about all I can do. I like the art but I don't know much about the artists or where they are from." she was glad for the change in topic as she smiled at him again, a genuine happy one instead of being embarrassed.
When the man standing next to Stephanie stated that it would be wrong to not bow, she felt a pang of regret for opening her mouth and saying something. " Of course, that's on me I'm just not used to it." she didn't want to make anyone feel awkward or uncomfortable, she'd rather keep that to herself instead of blurting it out. His hand was just as warm as it was when they were in the hallucination, it made her realize and think about how long she actually went with her hand in his. She might have been the oldest princess from Stillicium but that didn't mean she was well versed in romance. Never mind the innocent cues like what she was probably giving off. Her eyes looked down as she took a bite and as she chewed she heard his question. She lifted her gaze slightly, shaking her head before she swallowed and answered him. " I don't have a particular interest, I mean I'd rather be outside and enjoying the sun and the water but," she paused, placing her finger against her cheek. " I know I cannot do that all the time, and what better time to go see the art gallery but when I have a companion to do so with? After all, who would I talk to about them?" she had also heard that they marked some of the paintings with where the artist had hailed from and she found herself curious about which ones from her home were here.

Stephanie had not meant to laugh aloud and it was something he normally avoided, but even so he had not expected for Alosa to become flustered by the sound. Had he upset or offended her? No… Her reaction had confused him for a moment, but he knew that what he was reading was not negative. In fact, he would dare say that Alosa was actually attracted to him. It was not the most outlandish thing, he did like to think he was easy on the eyes, but he had not been expecting it. Not from someone who had seen him stumbling around helplessly. ”With hard work and a bit of luck, you will never need to know what to do in a situation like that. It is our charge to prevent that from ever happening again. So let us focus on that and do our best. That is the most important thing we can do going forward, I believe.”His second chuckle brought a different flustered reaction to Alosa and Stephanie was further amused as she explained why he should not be jealous. But beneath that amusement he was once again reminded of his sister, Aleithia. Sheltered was, as often as not, a kinder way of saying caged. Kept locked away and never allowed to do anything lest if reflect badly on the family. Ah, but he was letting himself get distracted. There was nothing to be gained from dwelling on it. He could not change his sister’s past, but he knew the dear girl would change her own future somehow. And he would, at the very least, stop getting in her way but more importantly he would be there for her every step of the way. ”I am certain that will change, in time. And hopefully you will be ready when it does.” Alosa composed herself and went on to speak of observing the art. It was strange the way she spoke of it; she almost seemed apologetic for not knowing more than she did. He supposed it was somewhat understandable; it was a pastime of the elites to pretend that they knew more than their peers. He was no different, really. But he had lost much of his interest in studying paintings in particular when he lost the ability to see them. There was still a bit of awkwardness between Alosa and Humphrey and that did cause Stephanie some concern. His manservant was like his own right hand, not to mention his surrogate eyes, and he did not want to do without the man’s aid. But it was hardly gentlemanly to make a lady in his presence uncomfortable. ”I do apologise. Humphrey has been indispensable to me since I was a child, but perhaps I could bid him stay behind for our outing?” It would just be for a short time, he reassured himself. He could manage for a short time. Alosa had been fidgeting with her hands for some few minutes by then, but Stephanie had not really understood why or paid it much mind. The revelation was a surprising one and he was glad that he had so much practice in schooling his features and not reacting to what he might hear in another’s mind. Had the dear girl been thinking of holding his hand again this entire time? Stephanie was unsure of how to react to that realization; he was unaccustomed to touching people much at all. Accepting Alosa’a help and thus her hand in his had been an exception due to extenuating circumstances. And of course he had not objected when she greeted him by taking his hand into both of hers. But it would surely be a breach of manners for him to take her hand unbidden unless he was placing a properly chaste kiss on her knuckles and even that did not seem appropriate at the moment. Stephanie drew his attention back to the conversation at hand. ”If you would prefer to be outside in the sun and water, then that is what we should do. The artwork will not be going anywhere; we can view it together at any time if you are of a mind to. At least for our first outing together, would it not be better if you are comfortable and in your element?”

Alosa was surprised that he was doing so well, keeping his calm even as she was slowly losing hers. She pouted softly for a brief moment, before shaking her head. No, now was not the time to be focusing on other things. " Yes, I'm glad that it was you that I ended up with even if it was scary." she smiled at him and finally stopped fiddling with her hands, gripping the edges of her skirt tightly. She was glad that they had ran into each other, and now here she was getting to know him more. It was very much coincidence that they had gotten along this well, and it was really nice if she was being honest. " Peace is the best option, I hope I can do my part for it, even if it's hard." she raised one hand to rub the back of her neck as she looked down at her food. She honestly didn't know what else she might be able to do other than be the best ruler for her kingdom. It was a hard job and she knew that, part of the fact that she wanted to make sure her brother was on her side was for that reason. It was going to be a long road to peace, and there would be roadblocks in the way. Regardless, she was happy the school existed at least to give it a fighting chance.
Her eyes widened before she shook her head quickly. Oh no, had she offended him in some way? She opened her mouth before closing it again and looking down. Gods, how did she explain this? " No! No...it's fine, I'm just, um-" she broke her sentence off before she exhaled sharply. This wasn't anything even Luka knew about her yet! He knew her power but not the changes her father had made to accommodate her. Her hands dropped onto her lap as she leaned forward slightly, raising her eyes up to look at his again finally. " I'm just not used to...a constant presence that's known. I don't mind, it's just that I... well, due to one of my powers I was a danger to be around men. Putting them at risk." she almost flinched knowing what that sounded like. " Not that I am now, I have it under control but..." the girl trailed off, her face burning as she looked down at her lap. ' Get it together, Alosa. Don't make this situation worse than it needs to be!' she scolded herself before taking a moment to pull herself together. It wasn't like he knew her power was singing men into doing her bidding; nor that she struggled with not singing as a child. She just had explained it poorly and could only hope that he gave her a second shot at it.
She raised her eyes back up and flashed an apologetic smile to both of them. " Let me rephrase that. I have a power that only works on men, one that when I was younger I...didn't realize the effect it could have." she took a breath in, that sounded better. " So I'm not used to having someone nearby like you are, but I don't wish for you to be uncomfortable either. I'm alright, I promise." she hoped he would understand, because if she were to go into detail about her powers, well, that would give her away and she didn't want to do that so blatantly. She glanced up to Humphry and offered him an apologetic smile directly before she apologized again under her breath to him. She felt bad, she didn't want either of them to think she was uncomfortable, she was just not used to their customs and how they did things. That was the point of the school though, no?
Even as the thought crossed her mind she blinked softly. He wanted her to be comfortable, but what about him? She finally took a moment and began to eat again, finding something else to focus on besides her fresh embarrassment. " While I appreciate that...what about you? What do you like to do?" she wanted to learn about him as well, she was never one to be entirely comfortable with not knowing her companions, especially ones that she felt closer to. And if she didn't know him a little more, how could she get him the appropriate gifts if she found something that worked? That wouldn't be right at all. She really did appreciate his gesture though, both to have his companion stay behind and to do what made her feel comfortable. " Best case scenario we could find something we both enjoy doing, at least for the first trip! Then after that we could show each other what we like to do on our own." she was happy that he hadn't absolutely told her off but she also still felt that worry in the back of her mind that she'd offended him. That was the last thing she wanted to do.

Alosa’s mind was quite the little basket of surprises and Stephanie considered that perhaps he just did not spend enough time around lively young women. He had withdrawn somewhat as he usually did prefer to focus on conversation with a person rather than what was in their head, but some impressions were still hard to miss. He felt her pout rather than to see it and he was at a complete loss to explain what he had done to garner that response. Well, whatever it was Alosa had soon brushed the thought aside and moved on from it. With any luck, it was not important or terribly upsetting. His companion seemed even more out of sorts when it came to the subject of Humphrey and Stephanie opened himself more to her thoughts. The poor girl was having such trouble explaining what she meant that he hoped he might be able to garner a greater understanding if he just peeked a little behind the curtain. But what was that about her being a danger to men? Should he be worried for himself as well as Humphrey? Alosa assured him that she had her power under control but Stephanie still scanned Humphrey’s mind quickly. He would not force his manservant to remain if the man had a reasonable fear that he was at risk. There was concern there, but Stephanie was surprised and a little humbled to find that the concern was for him; Humphrey had not considered leaving his side for even a moment. The prince almost smiled; he was lucky to have the stubborn old man with him. He did not know what he would do when Humphrey retired. ”I understand. As well as I need to, at any rate. If you say you have control over your powers, then I trust your word and I am not worried. Humphrey, you may decide for yourself. I will not ask you to remain if you are uncomfortable.” He knew what the response would be, but it was still a good habit to have these interactions out loud. Part of it was for Humphrey’s benefit; his manservant knew of his powers, just not his blindness, but that did not mean he would assume that Stephanie had taken his feelings into consideration. His words were also somewhat for Alosa’s benefit as she could not have known he had done so. He might be a spoiled little prince, an accusation he had heard across many minds, but he was not a cruel master and he would not have that implied by his silence. ”I prefer to remain, my lord.” Humphry gave a respectful bow of his head. It was less formal than his usual bow and this time Stephanie did smile with faint amusement. He could tell the old man was trying not to make Alosa more uncomfortable, but just could not bring himself to do less than that much. Humphrey hesitated for a moment before speaking to the young lady directly. ”There is no need to apologize, miss.” This time he did not bow and even managed a warm, grandfatherly smile for Alosa despite the stiff posture he took when waiting for further orders. The focus of the conversation shifted back to the outing they were planning. Stephanie was content enough with an outside venture, though he supposed he ought to worry about the chill in the air. But he was not expecting Alosa to ask what he liked to do. Stephanie chewed his food thoughtfully as he mulled over that question. He had many activities if only to keep himself active and fit, but he could not say they were things he actually did for enjoyment. They were perfunctory; the hobbies of a perfect prince determined to give his parents no cause for the complaints they were so fond of. What did he actually enjoy? Reading, once upon a time, but… better not to dwell on that. ”I do enjoy music.” Stephanie responded at last. That was something he could share, at least. And it was far less suspect than inviting a young lady to enjoy a glass of wine after dinner in his room. That was just where he typically enjoyed a nice glass of red, but somehow he did not think anyone would take such an invitation to mean anything so innocent. ”But really, music is something that can be enjoyed in any setting. So we will have music and you will choose where you would most like to enjoy it.” A better compromise he surely could not have asked for.

Alosa was no stranger to accidentally pushing people away with her words and the possible hidden meanings behind them. She knew that she struggled with getting her thoughts together and it didn't make it easy to explain things. Thankfully both Stephanie and Humphrey seemed to believe her when she tried to reassure them, and herself, that she had her powers under control. If she was honest, it was mostly because she refused to sing around anyone anymore. Perhaps she would have around her sister but that was far in the past. She was so caught up in the fact that she could cause harm to those around her that she didn't dare. There was the one time her powers had started in when she felt threatened but that was a very specific situation even if she didn't entirely understand it.
She blinked her eyes before they widened at Stephanie's words, a sigh of relief leaving her as her shoulders relaxed. ' Thank gods he believes me...I don't know what I'd do if I pushed him away too.' she thought to herself, she had closed her eyes and pressed one hand to her chest before she paused, her eyes opening again as she looked back up to him. Leave it up to Humphrey? Her pink eyes flicked over to the older man, worry creasing her forehead again before she heard his reply to Stephanie. She too noticed that he seemed less stiff than before and didn't bow quite as far. She should have been used to it; it was an expectation of many of her servants and she allowed them to do so when her parents were around but in private, she insisted they didn't. Even though she was a princess, crown princess at that, she didn't want to expect people to put their lives on hold for her. So, when he turned to look at her and spoke directly to her, she felt her breath catch slightly in her chest. Wait, he took her words to heart? He didn't seem to be too bothered by it, despite having his posture still but the smile took her off guard. " You're both too kind..." she murmured under her breath, before she shook her head and rested her arms on the table. " I appreciate it, I always worry I'll push people away with speaking before I think and I promise I'm getting better at it." she didn't have to worry about that with Luka, not entirely anymore. Stephanie however was a newer person to her, and she didn't want to offend him or anyone dear to him. And even to the ever-dense Alosa, it was clear he cared about the man who worked for him.
She eagerly awaited to hear what he enjoyed doing, and upon his answer she felt her lips curling up into an excited smile despite knowing what music would likely make her want to do. Sing. She was still fond of listening to it and perhaps she'd be able to show him one day what her singing voice was like, when they were in a situation where she was fully confident that she'd be able to keep any suggestions out of it. " Oh really? What's your favorite kind of music?" if one looked close enough she likely resembled an excited puppy, leaning forward slightly before she hummed to herself. So, if location was up to her, she should keep in mind the weather and how things were going. It had been quite cold out lately, and it was only going to get worse. She leaned back in her chair, pressing her finger to her lips as she thought to herself where she could suggest for them. ' Somewhere warm...but outside...' she thought to herself before she got an idea. She spun her head around, looking for a familiar face when she saw one of the female staff from the school that she had personally gotten to know. She stood up, pressing her hands against the table as she quickly addressed Stephanie before she ran over to the woman. " I'll be right back!" she had run up to the woman who seemed to nod and agree with her questions even though they were out of earshot of most. With a quick squeeze of the other hands Alosa returned to the table. " I have an idea, and she's going to help me make it happen. What about the solarium? It's outside, but still technically inside and warm." she also wasn't about to expose her new friend to the elements when it wasn't necessary.
She had taken another drink of her water as she leaned back in her chair, her eyes flicking down to her lap as she smiled softly. This was going surprisingly well for her opening her big mouth and making it awkward like she had.

Stephanie smiled softly at Alosa. ”Please, do not be worried that you will push me away. Whatever you might say, you are still the young woman who helped me when I could not help myself. You have earned a friend in me; you could not change that with an awkward or misplaced word or two.” Alosa’s face lit up with a smile when Stephanie mentioned that he enjoyed music and she excitedly asked him about his favorite kind. ”I prefer classical music, mostly instrumental though occasionally I will listen to opera or chant. I am particularly fond of chamber music. An orchestra is a fine choice for a large ceremony or ball, but I find chamber music to be far more intimate. But then I suppose the choice of music ought to match our activity.” It would be lovely to have live music, but would hiring musicians be taking things a step too far? He did not wish to misrepresent his intent. As Stephanie considered just where the boundary lay between a platonic outing and a courting gesture, Alosa made a sudden movement in her seat before popping quickly to her feet and excusing herself. Stephanie was perplexed but nodded as she darted away from the table. So energetic… Stephanie was mildly amused as he continued eating his meal in Alosa’s absence. It did not take long before his companion returned to reveal her idea. ”The solarium does sound very pleasant.” And if he did hire musicians they would not have to suffer the cold of the outdoors. Ah, but that really did seem a touch inappropriate the more he thought of it. His phonograph would have to do and it was a wonderful device. Oh, it was more than worth the extra effort to have it brought from home; he did not know what he would even do if he had to instead spend his evenings in complete silence. ”As you will be making arrangements, please do inform me of when we are to meet.”

Alosa was happy that she had found a friend from that horrible history class. She felt her heart swelling slightly before she had gotten her idea. Surely, he wouldn't get upset if she headed off to do something really quick. She had begun to think to herself a little bit as to what she could do to make them spending time together a little more fun and she got a good idea. So when she returned and took another bite she listened to his thoughts on music. He had a good point. ' Okay so avoiding Chamber music...' she thought to herself before she hummed, holding her fork in her mouth for a moment before she turned her pink eyes back onto Stephanie. " That makes it easy enough, no words for me to sing to." she cracked a happy smile before she pulled the utensil out of her mouth. She knew better to do such a thing in the presence of Stephanie, not because the princess was afraid, she'd hurt him, but because she might compel him to do something else. She had to admit that it was a nice feeling having him close while they were walking around even if it was in such poor circumstances. She set down what she was holding before she leaned forward on her hands, leaning her chin on her intertwined fingers. She had felt close to others before but the experience that she had in history made her wonder about her future; she would have to wed eventually, why should she not begin looking now? She was honestly surprised that her parents hadn't chosen someone for her. Perhaps they were expecting her to find someone on her own. That was kind of the point of the school, to make connections. So, for now, she would do just that.
She smiled again at him as she closed her eyes at the same time. She had an idea but she didn't know how he'd feel about it. " I was thinking in maybe an hour! I have something to set up and then we could meet in there? The far corner has some of the best sun and there's a bench in there that is really comfortable too." she wanted to get to know him better, aside from the fact that he was trained in the way of the sword and was protective. She wanted to ask if he'd found Aleithia and hoped that she was okay but now that they were able to meet up and talk in a planned situation that seemed the more appropriate time to do so. " I mean, if that's too soon, let me know! I just don't want you to come, and things not be done. I have someone here who's doing me a favor and I have a plan. Just one thing from you." this is where she was taking a chance, and she sat upright with a gentle smile at him. " Bring your favorite record if you have it, I'll bring my own. We can compare!" she hoped this wouldn't be too forward, but she was looking forward to learning more about the man.
