While still new and super not used to all this magical girl s**t, Iapetus had to admit that this gig wasn’t so bad. She felt stronger, had caught herself running faster and as for jumping. Well. It wasn’t a tall building in a single bound, but she could get onto a first story roof with a good running start. Anything else needed a bit of parkouring.
But still. The physical boosts were amazing. It was just a shame that she couldn’t carry it over into her everyday life. Suddenly grinning, Iapetus broke into a jog, feeling a brush of something powered against her senses. Might as well investigate and see what was shaking. If it belonged to a friendly, she’d introduce herself and maybe pick up some information.
It not, well. She’d be down for a brawl.

Byakko was chilling out on a bench watching the world go by when she felt an energy signature. The senshi paused, it felt like a friendly so that was good. She hummed a bit as the owner of the energy signature came into view.
"Heyoooo!" She called waving to the senshi, "Seen anything interesting tonight?" Byakko moved over on the bench in case the other wanted to sit with her, "I'm Byakko, senshi of the west!" She offered as an introduction.

The tiny pang of disappointment over not walking up to something she could punch was momentary and Iapetus wasn’t the sort to hold onto what-could-have-beens. Grinning at the other senshi’s greeting, she headed over to the bench and threw herself down beside the other girl.
“Nothin’ as interesting as you,” she replied easily. Stretching her arms over her head to help loosen her shoulder muscles, Iapetus turned slightly on the bench and crossed on leg over the other so she’d be comfortable while she chatted. “How about you, Miss Byakko?”
Her smile was wide and easy and she faced the senshi of the West. What, exactly, that meant, she had no damn idea. But it sounded impressive enough and she was confident that she’d learn plenty if she stayed patient and listened. She put out a friendly hand for a shake and laughed.
“Well, according to the cat who ah, woke me up, to use her own words, I’m Iapetus and I’m the senshi of Ruthlessness. Still haven’t got a clue what that actually means, but it sounds good, yeah?”

Byakko shrugged softly, "Honestly, it's a pretty chill night."
There weren't always crazily busy days where she always fought some sort of villain or monster. Actually, she was glad it wasn't always insane that way.
Though it sounded as if Iapetus was newly woken and it peaked Byakko's interest. "Ahhh it's your sphere! So that's what your power is based off of, have you tried it?" She asked curiously wondering if the other had tried to fight with their senshi powers.
"Like my attacks seem to be based on wind from what I can tell, the name of it tiger stalks from the west. It makes me think of some of the history I've seen from Japan and Chinese about relation between the cardinal directions."

Hey, she could work with chill. Chill was good. A little boring overall, but good.
“Can’t say as I have,” she replied, nose crinkled in thought. “The one fight I’ve been in so far, some weird, fiery and or steamy dude that felt slimy in my brain signed some stuff at me, that I am assuming was pretty rude based on his glares, and took down this freaking snowman thing all on his own. Which is certainly a sentence that exists now.”
Iapetus laughed and shook her head at the memory. At the time, she’d been ready to fight, but the weirdo had kind of had everything handled.
“I’m assuming that he was one of the baddies since he really did feel slimy on a purely mental and emotional level. But he didn’t turn me into a bloody paste, so I’m with-holding too much judgement for now.”
It was far more interesting to listen to Byakko anyway. Especially once she started explaining what she thought her title meant. It was fascinating stuff to be sure, but…
“Girl, I’m not even sure I’d be willing to do actual homework for this gig and ruthlessness sounds a lot more straightforward than the west. That all still sounds pretty cool, though.”

Byakko was looking at Iapetus when she said she didn't get a chance to use her attacks, "Huh, yeah he sounds like a Negaverse agent."
There was a pause, "Just be careful around them, it's why they felt like that. I know my brother years ago was taken by one. I haven't seen my brother since."
She stretched a bit and started laughing, "Well sometimes it's fascinating to see if there's a relation, at least to me. I'm sure not everyone digs into meanings."
There was a stretch as Byakko seemed thoughtful, "You could always find a youma to try your magic on, some of them are fairly easy to dust. If you wanted someone to help we could go look together."

”Trust me, I’m not about to let my guard down around them,”Iapetus was quick to assure Byakko. “If looks could have killed, my flayed and cooked corpse would have been nailed to a tree at the time. Do they typically have magic though? This guy was literally steamy. He melted a snowman monster all on his own with just his hands.”
She found the subject fascinating and wanted to learn as much as she could. Though, she was sorry to hear about Byakko’s brother. What, exactly, did it mean to be ‘taken by the Negaverse’, she wondered. Were you corralled up and kept in a cage for nefarious purposes? Were you killed? She’d have to learn more. But… not from Byakko. Not because of anything her fellow senshi had done, but more because she didn’t want to pick at any emotional wounds.
Which made her feel a bit grateful when Byakko changed the subject to one that was less sensitive. Grinning, she shrugged. “Oh, no doubt. I mean, it is interesting, but I guess I’m not the type to go digging. Maybe I’ll change my mind later, but for now I guess I’m content just soaking info up gradually.”
Now it was Iapetus’ turn to look thoughtful as she considered Byakko’s advice. She hadn’t really considered hunting for a youma to experiment on. The impression she’d been given was that they were all big, scary monsters that needed a while crew to take down. But Byakko seemed to be speaking from experience. And if she said that there were some out there who weren’t so tough…
“Huh. I’ll keep my eye out for one of those. I’m totally down to hunt together sometime too. I mean, this senshi thing is ultimately supposed to be collaborative, right? Or was the cat tripping balls when it suggested finding a crew?”

Byakko seemed thoughtful when Iapetus was asking questions, "To be fair I know limited information but I do know they have some magic. They can also teleport." There was a pause as she seemed thoughtful, "I believe I've heard about some being part youma but I can't confirm that."
She chuckled a bit, "I don't blame you, sometimes information overload doesn't do anyone any good."
She stretched a little bit and was thinking, "Oh the cat wasn't tripping it's totally easier as a group but there's youma and officers you can beat fairly easily. Not to mention when crazy things happen having multiple people with you makes the insanity more bearable and processable." She chuckled, "My little sister usually hangs out with me on patrol nights unless one of us has a prior engagement."
There was a pause, "I would enjoy having a team though."

Well, Iapetus thought, at least the cat had been giving her an honest assessment of things.
"Teleporting, huh? I'll have to keep that in mind. Gonna be super honest though, I am not lovin' the idea of half monster officers running around. It's kind of making me wonder more about the one I ran into. Like was he just an officer or was he part monster or was it weird magic? Too many questions and variables."
Resting her elbows on her knees and her chin in her hands, Iapetus considered everything Byakko was telling her. She could, for sure, see where having people to work with would be pretty great. But she could also see that it would be impossible to have a group available every moment. Raising an eyebrow at the idea of a team, she nodded cautious agreement.
"Speaking from experience with my muggle quidditch teams and competitive dancing, finding really compatible partners can be tough sometimes. I mean, I've been dancing with my current partner for a couple of years now and he's the best of the bunch I've had. But I've been dancing for more than a couple of years. Been playing quidditch since I was a kid and team politics are definitely a thing. Have you put out any bulletins or anything to find people you mesh with? If not, that might be a good first step."
Iapetus pulled a comically resigned face and sighed. "Otherwise, you risk getting stuck with people who think they should be the leader or they hate someone that you trust and adore. Like I said, takes time to find just the right meshing of personalities. It's not impossible though."
If teams of senshi were a thing, she'd look into it, but she'd also take her time and really get to know folks. She couldn't imagine how much of a cluster a hastily thrown together team might be if even one person wasn't on the same page with everyone else.

Byakko chuckled, "Well if I'm being fair I don't think anyone is a fan of that idea." She seemed to think, "Could've been a Captain or General or Higher ranking. They seem to have magic from my understanding."
Byakko's head tilted when Iapetus mentioned muggle quidditch and competitive dancing, "Wow, I've really only done skateboarding and roller skating." She admitted as she looked curiously.
"How's muggle quidditch? I admit I'm curious on that."
She nodded though in agreement with it takes time to form teams and needing compatible folks. "Yeah, you really need a bond with people before you strike out to make a team."
She couldn't agree more on that front, "I don't know, I think just feeling people out works enough, for now." There was a shrug. "I do at least have my sister."

Staring blankly at Byakko, Iapetus listened for a moment before shaking her head and laughing a little at herself. "Huh. Sounds like I still have a fair bit to learn."
Then, she lit up and beamed. She got to talk about one of her favorite things and with someone who didn't have any context. Those were almost always the best conversations.
"Oh my god, it's so great," she enthused. "I play Beater and it. Is. The. Best. There's been some black eyes in the past and one player said that I tried to break his jaw, but I didn't throw the bludger that hard. I mean, it's my job to protect my Seeker, right? I'm pretty good at that. We play every couple of weeks at the community rec. Admission to watch is free, you should come watch sometime!"
It was too bad, she thought, that they couldn't get up a game while powered. Then it wouldn't be so muggle-y. But given the way magic in the real world seemed to work, it probably wasn't the best of ideas.
Still fun to imagine though.
"Hey, you'll find your squad," she said encouragingly. "It'll be a pain in the a**, but you'll get there."

Byakko nodded, "Honestly I'm sure I still have lots to learn as well." She was still just a basic senshi after all.
There was a head tilt as Iapetus launched into the explanation of muggle quidditch. Nodding also when she said it was her job to protect the seeker. Being fascinated by how excited the other was. "Oh I will! It sounds like fun, I could use another hobby."
With a pause she seemed thoughtful, "Do you all just run or do you guys use skates or skateboards to move faster?" There was this mental image of muggle quidditch roller derby that had manifested into her head. She had to admit it sounded like it'd make for a crazier game of roller derby.
She laughed and nodded, "Oh I'm sure I will. I'm not in any rush." She said as she stretched.

Never loath to expound on her passions, Iapetus grinned, “Running only. Skates or boards add too much of a risk for something that there’s often a fair number of kids doing. Insurance’ll only cover so much. Besides, we play on grass. I can’t see anything wheeled performing well under those circumstances.”
While she wasn’t opposed to tweaking with the game to make it a little more exciting, even she could see the logistical nightmare that could come of strapping players into skates and turning them loose. And that was assuming they would roll on grass which could be wet, muddy or practically bone-dry dirt. People got hurt enough just playing the normal version. She didn’t need to see some poor twelve years-or-under kid with a skate lodged up its a** and a cracked skull in order to feel fulfilled in life.
“Yeah, no. Running only. I can do plenty of damage without the mechanical assistance!”
Grinning, she bounced a little in her seat. Just talking about the game made her wanna jump up and play a round. Alas, there were only the two of them. So, she instead focused on Byakko and cranked up the dazzle in her smile.
“That’s the spirit, girl! Never be in any kind of rush when it comes to meshing with people. You wouldn’t rush to get married, though I guess some people already do, so there goes that example, but you get my point. Speed running relationships never ends well.”
Nodding decisively, Iapetus copied Byakko somewhat, leaping up to stretch out her back and hips until they popped loudly.

Byakko was listening and then nodded, "Yeah I suppose that adding more dangers would probably be frowned upon by the insurance agencies."
When Iapetus stood up Byakko seemed thoughtful, "Do you want to grab a coffee and snack?" She asked curiously.
As she twisted until her back also gave a small pop, "Maybe we could hang out and I could come to one of these games - it sounds like fun!" She needed something else to do outside of skating and harassing her sister all the time. And who knew maybe she'd try the game if there was an open spot.

”Ayy, hanging out is always welcome,” Iapetus said brightly. “And we’re always open to an audience when we play. Just wear your sunscreen ‘cause we don’t have a lot of shade going around. I got burned so bad one time when I forgot my SPF.”
She shuddered at the memory. The pain had been insane and the peeling even more so. Iapetus was fairly certain that she could have qualified for Lizard status at the time. Nope. Never again. She’d invested in rash guard shirts specifically to avoid any future mishaps.
“I could eat, though it’s way too late for coffee for me,” she said, eyes curious. “But are we gonna draw too much attention if we rock up looking like this?”
Not that she minded attention overall, but she wasn’t sure that we wanted to put herself into the line of fire for being called a terrorist or bringing hell down on some poor little cafe just because two senshi decided to visit and were seen by an officer. That was decidedly Not It as far as she was concerned.
