To say that Tianyi was not having a good time was...well, it wasn't entirely correct. He was free, on Earth, and even if a large, strange creature was currently chasing him, he could probably get away from it. It was large and lumbering, generally reptilian in shape with a long nose and short legs, and a thin tail with something nasty and sharp-looking on the end, and it was keeping up with him better than Tianyi had expected. Still, though, if he could find a tree to climb....
"Please," he called back at it, "we really don't have to fight!"
Not that the beast--the youma--seemed at all interested in talking, which was both scary and also sort of expected, based on what Fang and Murikabushi had told him. And yet, the idea of actually doing violence to the poor creature....
Tianyi turned to look behind him, which was a mistake--he wasn't sure what his foot caught on, but it caught on something, and he went tumbling, landing on his back, watching the creature lumber towards him.
"Oh no." He winced, and reached for his magic--maybe he could demand it run away, maybe that would work!--but found that nothing came.
Ah. Well. That was bad.

It was alarming, to say the very least, when the first thing you sensed when powering up was a Chaos aura chasing after an Order aura. And while she wasn’t too far away, Ekstrom could only run so fast. Her shield certainly made sprinting a clunky experience, though she was gradually getting used to it. If she could figure out a way to focus on keeping it afloat and right on her tail while she ran as hard as she could…
It was something to think about another night, though.
Spotting the tail end of what was probably a very unpleasant youma by the looks alone, Ekstrom turned another two corners before finally spotting the senshi. From where she was, the tumble almost looked like it happened in slow motion, which should have been amusing (and she did have to fight off the smallest of smiles) if not for the threat of death now lumbering toward him.
“Not good,” she murmured as she surged forward, coming to a skidding halt just beside the senshi and slamming the tip of her shield into the ground as soon as she stopped moving. The blue glitchy outline of her forcefield pulsed out from her shield, and she willed it to its full diameter, hoping to keep as much distance between them and the reptilian youma as possible.
“You okay? Can you stand?” she asked, as much determination as there was worry in her voice, and she kept her eyes steady on the oncoming youma.
Knight — Ekström impales her shield into the ground. Upon focusing, a forcefield materializes from her shield and surrounds her, and at her will it can contract or expand to include anyone up to within 10 feet of her. The forcefield is light blue and glitchy in appearance. She has a magic pool of 50 seconds. For the duration of her casting, the shield can absorb or reflect (which one it does is up to her at the time of casting) all magical effects up to her rank. It can slightly lessen the damage of fourth stage magic. Reflected magic remains as strong as the magic of the one who cast it if it does hit someone (she has no control over the direction the magic is reflected). She cannot reflect fourth stage magic. Individuals are able to touch and/or pass through the forcefield, however enemies that do will feel as though something inside their body is short circuiting, causing very sharp pains to run through their entire body. For a few seconds moving becomes difficult but not impossible. Magic is unaffected and unhindered within the forcefield. Ekström can withdraw the physical shield from the ground to take it with her to help those within her field of protection, but she still needs to focus in order to maintain the forcefield. Because of this, her help would be very limited. If she is overly jostled it would break her focus, thus the forcefield would de-materialize.

Oh. Okay. Tianyi was apparently going to be very, very lucky, because here was someone with very new, very different magic, swinging a massive shield that created a protective barrier between them and the monster.
Oh, good. This was....this was so much better. Tianyi scrambled to his feet, dusting off his skirts and nodding.
"I'm okay, I can stand," he said, "I just...got really unlucky, and I'm not very good at fighting, I'm sorry." He should probably apologize for making someone else put themself at risk protecting him. And the monster seemed undeterred, charging forward--but when it passed through the forcefield, it stopped. It made a noise that, to Tianyi, sounded pained, and he winced, looking away from whatever was happening to it.
It was pretty pathetic of him, he supposed, but he couldn't help it. Even though the monster had wanted to kill him, he still hated to see it suffer, even for a few moments. He could hear it lurching forward, and then suddenly it stopped, and he looked back to see its form slowly crumbling to dust.
Oh. That was....that was very unpleasant and he didn't like it at all.
"Thank you," he said, softly, "for um. Saving me."

The way it just crumbled after only passing through her forcefield was surprising, but she wasn’t about to look a gift horse in the mouth. That it was weaker than it looked was a relief, though she was more relieved to hear that the senshi was okay. Turning to properly focus on him now, she quickly scanned to see if he’d gotten injured at all prior to her getting there; seeing was believing, and the relief fully settled.
“No problem,” she said, smiling her usually friendly smile now that she was a little more relaxed. “It’s not everyday you get chased down by something like that, I’m just glad you’re okay.”
Now that she was fully focused on him, she couldn’t help but notice certain things about him that made him stand out against the few senshi that she knew. Not wanting to be rude, though, she chose not to comment. Not directly, anyway, and she quickly thought of some way to shift the conversation.
“I take it you’re new to this?” she said, gesturing over at the pile of dust that had been the youma. “Or just new to DC?”

Tianyi exhaled. There was a certain relief in hearing this was a relatively rare occurrence, but at least the creature was quite dealt with!
Still, he wilted a little, scuffing his foot on the ground. "Ah, new to Earth, entirely. And it wasn't like this, back home. We didn't have monsters. My job as a Senshi was mostly just looking pretty and showing up at important ceremonies and things like that."
And being the curse that brought his world down, but that was a whole lot of baggage to drop on someone else.
"Are you a Knight? I've only ever met one of those. I'm Tianyi, and we didn't have them, and we were um. Cut off from the universe, so I never really met any before I got here."
He probably sounded stupid. Oh well. He was stupid, so that was probably fair.

Ekstrom drew her brows together curiously, fighting down her curiosity at the senshi’s description of his duties back on his home planet. That he confirmed that he wasn’t from here was fascinating in and of itself, though it hardly felt like the right time to express her curiosity and try to dig into the details of his planet. Rather, the comment softened her expression and made her think twice about what might be an appropriate response. Not just a platitude, but a genuine one.
”Yep,” she said, skipping a bit ahead and figuring she could circle back should an opportunity present itself. “I am Ekstrom, a Knight of Mercury. Welcome to Earth, Tianyi. It’s nice to meet you. I’m sorry if it’s not been too welcoming, with the monsters and stuff, though.” She reached over to rest a hand on his shoulder, giving him a friendly, encouraging little pat. It felt…right, to try and buoy his spirits, maybe because of how he sort of wilted just a moment ago.
”Cut off?” she asked, tone gentle so he hopefully didn’t take it as her wanting to pry. “Just by design or you were forced to…?”

Tianyi nodded. Mercury...that was one of the other planets in this system, wasn't it? He wasn't exactly the most educated on these things, but that sounded right. He'd just have to ask Muri or someone else when he got home.
"It's very nice to meet you too, Ekstrom of Mercury!" Tianyi said, and he did indeed feel somewhat encouraged by the little shoulder pat. "Earth has actually been very welcoming for the most part. All the people are very kind. And the monsters....can't help themselves, can they?"
They were...very much like animals, after all.
His smile dipped, a little, at her question. "Ah, we were cut off by Chaos. We weren't always, as I understand. But it came right around when I was born, so I grew up on an isolated world."

It was probably the first time she’d heard anyone be thoughtful toward youma. He wasn’t wrong, though Ekstrom still hesitated before ultimately nodding. “I’ve never really thought about it, but if I had to guess? They probably can’t,” she quietly agreed, tucking the thought away so she could chew on it more a little bit later. It was maybe something she could ask Chal about when she next got the chance since he…probably worked with youma to some degree and would know best.
How much of it he would be honest and forthcoming about, though, it was hard to tell. But she felt it’d be worth a try.
With the way his smile dipped she felt some guilt about dredging up unpleasant memories stab at her, so she gave him another few pats on the shoulder in a feeble attempt to comfort. “Sorry. Uh…well. You’re not alone now, for what it’s worth. If you ever need help, or even if you just want some company while wandering around the city, you can always reach out to me.”

Tianyi sighed. It was a little sad to think about, wasn't it? Those poor creatures, having to die just because they couldn't coexist peacefully with people. Because circumstances made it so that it wasn't safe for others for them to be alive.
That was...well. Tianyi really didn't want to think about that much anymore.
"I'm really glad for that, yes," he said, tail swishing. "And if I need to, I will definitely try to find you again! Thank you for all your help, Ekstrom, you're very kind, and I'm very lucky to have met you!"
And, really, he was. Coming to Earth...it was the best thing that could have happened to him.
