The last month now over, Zuri had a sigh of relief mixed with sadness. For him the holidays were a hectic time but also the most satisfying. He preferred to celebrate Wassail over the other holidays that came in the last month of the year, but he did participate in them all.
For him, Wassail was a time of renewal and blessings of the nature around them. The trees were blessed, the drinks flowing and the hymns sung that rose to the heavens.
Now that the time for Wassail has passed, he must now contemplate the New Year ahead and his resolutions. The ones he deemed for last year has been completed of course and now he must make a new list and persevere to complete them before the end of the new year.
Sighing to himself he heard a small rustle and glanced around and saw his familiar friend, Zayyan laying on his back happily playing with his paws. He thought instantly "He is adorable, so young and naive but smart" with that a small grin grew on his face.
His mind began to drift as his thoughts began to form. Some years he followed the tradition of doing resolutions other years, he just hunkered down and rode out the frigid cold and made do with that.
Part of him wants to make new resolutions, the other part does not want to be bothered. He again sighed, he hated this time of the year for he had to make a decision if he was or was not going to make resolutions. Last year's resolutions were mostly simple things he could do at a reasonable pace and have them completed before the year's end. Some would say he took the easy way out; this year he was on the edge trying to decide to make harder resolutions or say no and just walk off and do his own thing.
He knew it was entirely his choice but due to his personality either decision would bring about it's own issues but rewards.
He hung his head. closed his eyes and just let himself relax. His hooves slowly began to tap a rhythm and he fully relaxed. The sound and movements were peaceful, and his mind slowly began to focus as each reason why he should and should not do resolutions formed.
Zayyan was still happily playing; he could hear him rolling around and that to brought him peace.
Swaying with the rhythm the pros and cons of a resolution played over in his mind, the if's and but's as well as the why and why not's. Carefully weighing each choice, he took his time and allowed a decision to come when ready.
Suddenly his eyes opened and the world around him seemed brighter, clearer somehow. His eyes widened as they took in the beautiful sights the beheld his vision. A whole new world was before him, and he breathed in a quick breath and released it. He felt completely relaxed, as if one with the world around him. Turning about in a circle he surveyed his surroundings as if he never seen them before and stopped when he saw Zayyan still playing on the ground. He couldn't help it he began to giggle and then full on was laughing until his sides hurt.
Zayyan was startled and sat straight up and stared at Zuri in confusion. Blinking he shook his head in a funny way then said "Why you are laughing at me Zu Zu?
Catching his breath, he stopped laughing and glanced back at Zayyan and saw the innocent expression on his face and the hurt in his eyes. He instantly felt bad and softened his voice and spoke "I am sorry Zay, I didn't mean to hurt your feelings. You looked so adorable and carefree it caused me to laugh. You are such an innocent little one and I envy that about you. You don't seem to let the weight of the world bother you, but me it does very much"
Zayyan stared at Zuri for a few moments letting his words sink in. He tilted his head to the side and said "Weight of the world? I am happy in my little space I have and with you as my friend. The other things can wait and some can just be forgotten about as if they are not necessary. I want to enjoy what the world has to offer and to do that I am just myself"
Zuri nodded and allowed Zay's words to sink in, realizing the full weight of his words he came to a decision. The resolutions could wait, he could relax and just enjoy what was around him. This new year could be one of playful memories and times with Zay and that would be just fine.
