Hello Cycle 6 designers! This thread is for you to ask the mentors for advice. Of course, you can reach out to them directly through PM if you want, though I will ask you to only reach out to one mentor per challenge if you need to. But this thread is a free for all to post in. And our mentors will also be posting here through out the competition with different tidbits of advice! heart

Hi babes! My name's Faith, and here is just a snippet of info for challenge one:
Quote:
The first challenge is due by 11:59 PM PST on January 19th. For the first challenge you all are getting an extra day. Don't forget to have fun everyone!!
Challenge #1: Compliments & Complements Designers, for this first challenge we want to get to know you all better. Design a look where your model is doing one of your favorite activities, and to add an extra challenge, you're going to be dressing her up in a duotone look. Your two colors must be complementary. Complementary colors are across from one another on the color wheel and really make one another pop when side by side. You may choose to go off the traditional color wheel or the RGB wheel. You must use color though, you can not use black and white. And word to the wise? If you see other designers using a color scheme, pick a different one. The judges will not be happy people if there are thirteen purple and yellow looks submitted. Make your looks stand out! Due Date: Jan 19th
If you find yourself feeling stuck you can post here as mentioned above, reach out via PM to BloodAngel95 and/or me, or even do one of my favorite activites and scroll through past entries like the most recent Cycle 5! (Psst check out Detrimentum's entries, she won after all!)
We are totes happy to provide feedback / answer questions so don't be scared to reach out!
Hello hello everyone! I'm excited to get started on Cycle 6 and wanted to clarify something before I start building for the first challenge.
For our complements, are we expected to use the pure hues as they would appear on the color wheel, or would pastels/tones/shades (that is, mixed with white/gray/black) be acceptable? And if so--say we selected a pastel hue as our first shade, could the complement also be pastel, or would we have to go with the true inverse and have the second shade be a darker tone?
(If it helps to give an example: red and cyan are opposites on the RGB color wheel. Would use of two pastel versions of these hues be accepted? Or if using a pastel pink, would the complement then have to be this deep teal?)
Thanks for your help! heart

Hello lovely! I wanted to pop in and answer this one since I came up with the challenge, but I will try to leave this thread for mentors and designers most of the time. But anyways! You are welcome to use pastel versions, and in the example you gave, pastel cyan would be the one to use vs. the deep teal.
Some general advice for the competition though, while it is of course always okay to ask for clarification, making decisions and selling us on them is a part of your description. There have been plenty of looks where I haven't been on board with the initial look/decisions I could see, but by then the description totally sold me on it. heart

Ok, I'm working towards everyone's least favourite colour scheme of slime green and purple (which is one of my faves), and I think I want to go with toxic and ghastly, do we think those would be appropriate for a violet chartreuse combo?
EDIT: separately, how do feel about altering the models bangs?

Hi there! First of all I like that color scheme! xD Anyway using a variety of the color works.
You can alter the models bangs but make sure it is necessary to do so, and if you feel like it is necessary for your look, make sure you explain why in your description convince them of your decision.
I have seen both scenarios where someone gets eliminated for adding bangs(plus hair extension) because it did not benefiting the look and someone changed the hair style but passed because it worked with the look they were selling. They were even the top model of the week. 3nodding

It up to you to take the risk 3nodding
Haha! I'm glad some other people like green and purple too cause whenever I make ghosting threads everyone requests not to have a venom or toxic colour scheme used and I cry cause it's my fave. But I do like I lot of the other schemes on gaia.
Thank you thank you! I hope my risk will pay off. I'm leaning hard into the "my favourite activity" by also making her look like me, so that seems mostly justified.

Got it, thanks for the clarification/advice! emotion_yatta
Hi there! Not sure who specifically to ask, but thought I'd broadly discuss it here.
I'm just seeking some clarification about the makeup vs mods (as per the most recent announcement)
(particularly re: changing the shape of the eyes / brows)
Given that Maeve's eye item is To Fruity Dreamland, the eyebrows are included and also rather low to the eyes I worried about the ttly bodacious lashes/eyeshadow covering her brows, hence why I added them back (and wondering how to navigate that in future challenges)
For sake of example, I'm using my submission from Challenge #1
^^ final makeup look (with nose)
^^ makeup, with no brows (with nose)
^^base face (with nose)
- SDPlus Special #013 Bedtime Ivan Doll (sleepy blush) - Ethereal Eyeshadow (Ivory) - Consort of Ossidian (Under liner) * ttly bodacious (Lashes) * Brunette Brow Basics (Thick Brow)
(not including nose items)
The last two (marked with *) are ones that I have come to realize may be more like mods in this context

gaia_angelleftgaia_crowngaia_nitemareright Hi there, I would say that as long as you don't change the eye color, lip color, and general eye shape of your model you can get away with anything else.
Noses have always been up to the designer so which ever one you think fits your model best go for it and if you stick to the same nose even better.
As for eyebrows they are allowed. Your model eyes/face include eyebrows, but the same isn't try for every model, the focus is on the eye shape and color so if you want to change up the eyebrows go for it.
You can include eyelashes if they go with your models eye shape. Your model has big round eyes so don't change the shape, find eyelashes that go with the shape instead.
As for your look this week, you have nothing to worry about 3nodding
If your ever in doubt, ask a mentor before completing your look.
Just touching base again, and a congratulations for making it to the next round! Really excited to see the stunners y'all come up with for haute goth
On to business: I just wanna drive home that if for any reason there is an issue with the current challenge, feel free to reach out to us mentors! We would be happy to anonymously talk to judges on your behalf to try to come up with some sort of solution. (Not just because we want you to have fun and feel at ease, but also as mentors we have no effect on the judging process so you can feel free to use us as a tool to voice your concerns or anything really.) We know you are all boss babes, but you don't have to handle anything on your own!
Kittens who brought the tea last round, it made all the difference and we very much appreciate your dedication to our precious little community
keep up that marvelous energy, Faith ๐โโกโโก
The timeline hasn't been released yet, but if I remember correctly from prior cycles it's both in the same time as usual, one week 3nodding time crunch kinda thing

Hi hi! Are either one of you available for some feedback? I've got the direction of my look for this challenge solidified but I keep waffling about which details read the strongest, especially since I myself have only a surface-level familiarity with Star Wars sweatdrop
If it's easier to send images that way, I'm maxie/ohdeerling in the discord!

Hi there. Just seeing this now. Sorry about that. Did faith reached out to you already or do you still need/want the feedback?
