Snow…Angels? (15) : After a fresh snowfall, is there anything better than laying down in the snow and making your own mark? Snow angels are simple and easy. Except, for some reason, every time you try to make one it turns into some horrible monster. No matter how many you attempt, or how correctly you do it, by the time you get up there is only the silhouette of a horrifying creature lying where you just were. Sometimes it hardly even looks human.
Autumn loved every season—but of course, especially autumn itself, her namesake. Winter, though, had its perks. The hot chocolate, the sense of indulgence everyone seemed to partake in with regards to baked goods compared to the rest of the year... And then there was the snow. She'd lived in Destiny City her whole life, so she'd never known anything other than the beautiful four seasons of the northeast corner of the country. She couldn't imagine never having known the joys of snow. When the world got blanketed in the soft white stuff overnight, she woke with joy in her heart. Good. She loved an excellent snow. After completing her morning routine, forcing herself to take it slow so she didn't slack, she bundled herself up for the cold and trudged out into the backyard.
It was blindingly white and beautiful and she couldn't wait to start messing around. She took a few pictures of the untouched yard first to post to Instagram later, ensuring that she got a good few shots with her mug of hot chocolate and one of the muffins she'd baked the other day (reheated, of course). Anything to advertise her itty bitty pastry business she ran out of her home!
With that business finished, she got to work. Well, more accurately, play. The first thing she did was make a snowman at least as tall as her, if not taller—she'd go inside for decorations to add to the poor thing later, because getting unbundled and rebundled sounded like an annoying idea right then. Not when she was in the groove.
Her project mostly finished, she went for the next thing she loved to do most in the snow—snow angels. With gleeful little squeals, she let herself fall backwards into some unblemished snow, arms and legs waving almost wildly to make the perfect angel. With a happy little sigh after laying there for a few minutes, she carefully pushed herself up and stepped away from the imprint. She turned to view her beautiful creation—
And stopped dead in her tracks, staring in fascinated horror at the amalgamation before her.
"What the..." she whispered to herself, a chill that had nothing to do with the freezing cold going up her spine. She licked her lips nervously.
That did not have the shape of a good snow angel, which was weird, because Autumn was an expert on good snow angels after years of practice. It was a... some kind of slenderman had laid down and had a flailing seizure. It was definitely too big to be her own bodily imprints, even if she had flailed around like that. Or maybe it was some kind of many-limbed creature, she didn't know.
Shivering again and deciding her eyes were playing tricks on her, she plopped down a short distance away from the failed angel and tried again, this time with more concentrated focus and intent. She didn't want to mess it up.
This time, when she stood and looked, the snow seemed to have had a horse with a broken back keel over onto it than anything like her snow angel.
"Alright, two is enough for me, screw this," she said flatly, abandoning the snow outside for the warm insides of the house. She refused to even go back outside to decorate the snowman. Nope. Today, she was simply not dealing with any monster crap, and that was that.
