She wasn't sure why her parents thought this was a great idea.

Abby sighed in frustration after parking her car and walking over to where her fiance was currently working. Had there been a designated meeting place she would have been okay. But noooo…Her parents wanted her to “surprise” Ben at work with food. Granted, she knew why they were suggesting this but lord they’re not married yet and she doesn't even have an engagement ring yet!

Really next thing they would do is plan when shes supposed to have children!

Which no….She did not want any and there wasn't much that could change her mind.

She made sure to pay attention to where she was stepping, a frown appearing on her face when she just barely missed stepping into some mud (not with her expensive shoes!). Ugh! Construction while she wouldn't mind if she were in her working clothes, is not for her. Even her little workshop at home where she tinkered was…Cleaner than this. With a huff, Abby walked up to the nearest person she could find, clearing her throat. “Excuse me, I'm looking for Bennett Keegan? Is he around?” Looking at the male before her, she sometimes wished she were taller.

Quote:
Bennett was working deep in the building, arguing with one of the suppers over the man’s opinion over the plans. The plans that had been approved by the city. “Damn it Jim, we can’t do that! The inspectors will be all over our a** if we do it.” He scolded the older male, squashing the urge to slap him with the stack of papers he had, when another one of the workers came running up.

“Boss,” The worker panted out.

“What?” Ben snapped, just glancing over at him before swearing, “Is someone hurt? Or did something collapse?” When the worker shook his head vehemently, “Then just take a second and breathe.”

After a second the worker was able to explain he had a visitor in the ‘office’, a glorified trailer that held just enough space for the site records, a small table and chairs, and an all important coffee maker. Ben quickly got the picture as the worker spoke about how dolled up the visitor was. With a sigh Ben shoved the permits at Jim, “Here. Read these over and rethink your plan. We will talk later, but I will, I repeat, I will send the inspectors after you if you implement your idea without authorization.” With that he walked off. It wasn’t that Ben didn’t understand where Jim was coming from. It would have made things faster and cheaper. But he also knew it would make it more dangerous for his people, and put them in the gray area of the permits and like Joker and the IRS, Ben knew better than messing with the city permit office. Piss them off and you were basically screwed on any and every permit from here to the city limits. That would put a massive dent in the company. He wasn’t going to risk that.

After kicking off as much dirt as he could, it was the only way to keep the office in need of major cleaning, Ben strode into the trailer, absently noting that the ac/heating unit needed to be turned up. It was barely warmer than outside. “Abby, what a surprise,” He said as he took in his fiance's appearance. “What brings you here?” And in that outfit, he silently wondered. She really did dress nicely, way too nicely for a construction site.

While she waited, Abby took in the sight of the….Trailer she was in, noting that It could use some detailing. Sure, construction was messy ... .But the dirt everywhere was killing her and at first she didn't want to sit in the dirty ‘office’ but she really had no choice and wearing a hard hat would mess up her hair. Better to stay inside a d be appalled than out on the site where it was dangerous. So, here she waited, legs crossed while she went through her phone to check Instagram, figuring she could post another selfie, which she didn't where she was in the trailer with a pout and the caption: Waiting be like~

But then she heard the door open and her finance walked in.

Putting her phone away, Abby stood and gave Ben a small wave. “Yes…Apparently lunch is why I'm here. We had extra and the chef would murder me if all the food she made went to waste. So I suggested we send it to you, and both mom and dad thought It would be nice for me to deliver the food to you personally instead of having the chef deliver it.” she gestured to the box with a small smile and a bit of Red on her cheeks.

“Ah,” Ben grinned at her and sauntered over, “Can’t say as I’ve ever had a prettier delivery person.” He went to grab her for a kiss when he paused and realized he was covered in general dust and dirt, while she was still as pristine as ever. “Damn, I wish I could kiss you right now. Ah well,” He held up his hands and gave her a rather feral look, “maybe next time. When there aren't any witnesses that is.” He wouldn’t make a spectacle of her by sending her outside to the wolves smudged and covered in dusty handprints because that's what would have likely happened if he did actually enjoy a bit of an afternoon ‘lunch’.

Instead he backed off and used some of those camping wipes to clean his hands. “So, what kind of treat did you bring me?” He smirked but kept to ‘his side’ of the small space, it was easier to keep his hands off of her when there was some distance between them. It also didn’t hurt that he was pretty much blocking the only exit as well. She was stuck in there with him, either ‘protected’ from the guys’ curiosity outside or ‘trapped’ by him, depending on how you looked at it. “And is there enough for two?” He would end up needing to take an early lunch but if it meant eating with Abby he would, it was the polite thing to do after all.

There was indeed a frown and that blush may have gotten deeper. That's not to say Abby was totally expecting a kiss…Because she totally wasn't, clearly. But it…. Well the thought of it would've been nice. There was a thought in her head and she would maybe have to act on it if she could figure out how to do it. But maybe in a bit. Despite her newly awakened sex drive, other than the two weeks her parents took for that vacation, not much time has been granted for funner activities and Abby hated how it made her….Crankier? Not the proper word but close enough. That feral look Ben gave her went straight to her lady parts and she had to clear her throat and look away to gather her thoughts.

What did he ask again? Oh!

“Mmmmn…The lunch was a nice and refreshing fruit salad with wagyu steak and some French green beans. I did bring a thermos for the Italian soda. She showed me how to prepare it so I can get started on that.” She put the lunch bag containing everything on the table, after wiping it down and placing a nice cloth on it, pulling out two plastic fancy cups. As for his other question, “Yes, my portion is in there as well. So I will be accompanying you for your lunch Ben.” Was that said with a bit of sass? Yes, because it seemed obvious to her that she would be eating with him, why else would she deliver this? If it was just his portion, Chef Kate would deliver it on her own.

Once everything was set, she took another seat, “Oh…Daddy wanted to know if you were coming to my performance next weekend? It's the last showing of the nutcracker before we move onto practicing for Swan lake.” she crossed her legs, taking off her jacket now that it felt a bit warmer in here. She forgot to put on a long sleeved sweater underneath the dress but that is what she had her jacket for.

Ben could have passed on the fruit salad but the steak didn’t sound so bad. He smiled and turned up the heater so it would get warmer in there faster before sticking his head out the door, “Mike, I’m taking an early lunch.” He nearly had to shout but not all that surprising there was a small collection of men just ‘coincidentally’ congregating near enough to the trailer, including the site foreman, Mike. He tossed a look at the men and while Mike nodded his understanding the others quickly scattered. They are worse than gossipy housewives, he mentally scoffed before closing the trailer door and heading back to Abby and the fancy spread she had brought.

“I can tell you that you are definitely better company for lunch then I normally get,” He teased her even as he took the only other seat that was available. It was barely a table for two, even though there was a folding chair somewhere that could be used for a third person. Ben just raised a brow at just how all out Abby, and by extension her folks, went on the lunch spread. Really, this was much fancier than anything this trailer had ever seen. “What? Oh, yeah, sure. I don’t think I have anything planned for next weekend.” He took a bite of the steak and hummed in appreciation. It was good. “My compliments to the chef.” A few more bites followed suit. “So…. was that what you were ‘practicing’ that night? The one where you wanted to see if I could lift you?” He grinned at her, teasing but also absolutely flirting because he did indeed prove he could lift her… just maybe not in any way her dancing instructor would have approved of.

Quote:
Abby stiffened in her seat, still not exactly used to casual flirting. She cleared her throat and tucked a wavy stray of blonde hair behind her ear. “I-I would imagine so given the environment.” No shade to his workers but clearly she understood if Ben had the option of dining with her or one of the crew, he would pick her. It was…Endearing in a way and that caused another blush. She sent a text to her father to confirm that Ben was going to her nutcracker performance next weekend. She didn't say that Andy would be there for….Reasons. mostly because he was her partner in everything dance related, and their instructor knew better than to break them apart.

She took a bit of the fruit salad and steak, smiling and giving a sound of appreciation as well. After swallowing her food she replied, “Oh I certainly will! I swear Chef Kate is on par with Gordon Ramsey~” and she has dinned at his restaurant before. She took a sip of her soda and promptly had to stop lest she choke. She remembered that night clearly and all the embarrassing stuff she said. “Y-Yes…Thats what I was attempting to practice.” The poor girl was a complete tomato even as she resumed sipping on her soda. “You're absolutely terrible.”

Ben grinned at her before laughing at her flushed face and her comment about him being terrible. “Oh princess. You ain't seen nothin yet.” Having lunch with her really was quite amusing. They would have to do this more often that was for sure.
