Cardinal Companion (14) : In the dismal whites and blues and greys of winter, the bright red splash of a cardinal is a welcome difference. It’s not uncommon to see birds out and about, and it’s easy to spot these especially after a fresh snow. Wild birds typically mind their own business and don’t really care about you–except, this one does. An unusually curious cardinal finds you the subject of interest in its day, and oddly enough–it feels familiar to you. You can’t explain it, but the moment your eyes land on it, it feels like coming face to face with someone dear to you. The cardinal isn’t afraid of you and feels comfortable enough to approach you, or maybe even land on you. Perhaps it’s even brought you some small gift. The more time you spend with it, the more you pick up on its unique habits, which seem to have an uncanny resemblance to someone you’ve lost. Sometimes the cardinal even smells of them, or has similar traits. The cardinal doesn’t ever stay for long but when it leaves there is an undeniable feeling that someone very important to you has paid you a visit.
Being awake when the sun was still up had started to happen more often, it wasn't every day that Sasha was awake when the rest of the world was but it was getting there because of Ian. He still preferred the night, especially because he had to go to the meeting area with Villion to make sure nothing happened there. It left him tired though, more so than normal but he didn't bring it up to Ian, didn't want to trouble them with it and get punished with them moving away from this place he was used to.
Stretching and sitting up, his hair all in a mess as he finger-combed his antennae back in order. "Morning." Piping up as he saw Ian at the computer, the sound of typing away was only just audible as he was waking up more and more. Next to them was the little thing they'd gotten him that was for games, it had to charge apparently and the humming noise he heard often was something called electricity. It was still magic to him but he didn't mind it, especially because it was safer on heating things than fire had been on his homeworld.
Scooting forward toward the foot of the bed, he looked outside at all the snow. The usual greenery was covered in it and everything looked quiet and bright out there. There weren't any bunnies today but he saw a few small flashes of red flitting past the window. He wasn't sure what it was at first but that was okay for now.
