Tis the season for gift giving, a sense of celebration as the year comes to an end. You get all the gifts you expect, and give some out as well. However, a strange, unmarked gift has arrived. You have no idea who sent it, or what it might be. Is it something from an admirer, or possibly a bit more sinister?

[ Your character receives an unexpected gift. Feel free to answer this prompt exploring the thoughts around such thing, the suspicion or confusion, maybe even resolving it with finding out who the gift giver was. Maybe it's someone you know, but it's a surprise. Maybe it's a mistake. The only way to find out is to open the present. ]

Warmth had returned to the southern isles and everything was returning to normal. People of all shapes and sizes wandered the roads, markets and small shops of the seaport. Neryssa sat at the window of her room as her two companions roamed about as they did. Spike came to rest near her and the window that let the run flow through. Reached out she petted the Sitara as it seemed to doze in the sunlight. The bulb on its tail glowing dimly in pleasure.

”I do wonder how much longer I will be here.” She pondered as she looked towards Lygs who had found a place to rest on the bed. ”I do also wonder when Kaua would be returning to Matori.” She looked back towards the window and towards the rolling waves below.

She had been in this area for what seemed like forever, she was getting edgy and needed to move again. Perhaps move along to another piece of the isles where she could pick up new things to take home again. These things she pondered before there was a knock at her door. Tilting her head, her fin-like ears shifted in curiosity.

”Be right there.” She called out before getting up and headed for the door. She wondered just who it could have been. When she opened the door the hall was vacant, she peered up and down to see if there was anyone around. Spotting no one, her attention went to the floor as a small neatly wrapped box laid there. ”Hello?” she called out to be answered by silence.

Puzzled, she reached down and picked up the small box and stepped back into her room. Closing the door she looked towards Lygs and Spike that were watching her at this moment. ”Seems someone left this outside the door.” She turned the box every direction to try and find a tag. Was it something for her? Or had someone placed it by the wrong door?

”Perhaps it is something from Kaua? She pondered as she looked back to her companions as if they had the answers that she searched for. ”But if it were him, why didn’t he just hand it to me? Was he too shy?”

Though this didn’t seem to be in his personality, Kaua wasn’t the very shy one. She was a bit on the shy side, but there was something about the hybrid that made her blush. Was she falling in love with him? That was quite the possibility. As she thought about it even more, she was sure that something was stirring deep within her soul. Shaking her head as she tried to will the reddening of her face as if there were others staring at her.

”He’s just an acquaintance that comes from Matori as well.” She tried convincing herself before she pulled at the paper around the box. ”What do you guys think? What is your take on Kaua?” She asked Lygs and Spike as if they could speak to her like everyone else. ”Yea I don’t know what to think either…”

As she let the paper around the box fall into her lap she stared at the small white box that she held in her hands. It wasn’t that big, she could hold it in her palm and she wondered what was within. Reaching for the lid she grabbed a hold of it before she stopped herself and set the box aside. There was much conflict in her thoughts. She wanted to know what was inside, she wanted to know who it was from. Neryssa stood up and paced the room as she kept watching the box.

”No one’s ever sent me anything… Besides my brother and that was a long time ago.” Her hand went to the scarf that she now tied around her neck. The edges were starting to show their age as they were fraying. Neryssa worried that someday she would have to pack it away so that the cloth didn’t get anymore destroyed. ”I don’t know why I hesitate to open it. Perhaps I don’t want to know…”

Staring at the Sitara who had moved from its perch and crawled over towards the bed. Neryssa watched it before leaping forward as the lizard-like creature knocked the box towards the floor. Whether it was on purpose or an accident, Neryssa wasn’t sure as she reached out and caught the box before it could hit the ground. The lid had fallen off revealing a brightly jeweled bracelet within. Sitting up on the floor, Neryssa stared at the piece.

It was made of a finely crafted metal with sea softened stones and shells impressed into the loop. It was something she had been looking at some time ago, was it at the time that she had been with Kaua in the market? This perplexed her even more… ”Kaua?” Was all she uttered before looking back towards the Sitara and Maglardilla, who stared right back towards her, silently..
