Quote:
Snowbunnies (2) : Winter seems to bring out the cutest of all rodents; this isn’t the first time that small, white rabbits have infested Destiny City. They’re small, rarely larger than a guinea pig, and have large eyes and wiggling noses. They are always pure white and seem to show up whenever there’s snow. They aren't menacing or evil, they're just everywhere. They seem strangely domesticated; they are sweet, curious, and friendly creatures that will eat anything you give them. They always seem cold to the touch, and when they shake, little snowflakes sprinkle off of them.

While they seem to be social creatures who seem to appreciate anything warm and will cuddle up to steal body heat, they are too skittish and fast to be kept for pets. They can show up just about anywhere, either alone or--often--in pairs. They tend to wander off on their own without any trouble, but if you surprise them or try to catch or hurt them, they may bite. Their little teeth are enough to break skin, but after one bite they run away. The bite itself isn’t bad, but the effects are a bit unpleasant: for roughly two days after the bite, the injury is cold and the victim will feel random, cold, shooting pains. Their core body temperature will drop and they will often be sent into random fits of shivering. No medicine seems to help, and no amount of blankets or hot baths can soothe the chill. You're just going to have to deal with it and hope it gets better…

Most experiences with the bunnies are perfectly pleasant, you just have to worry about them burrowing. There are holes peppering Destiny City, and with the fresh fallen snow it can be impossible to tell where they are hiding. The holes range from small holes to several feet deep, so can be a minor inconvenience to a potential hazard. On the bright side, sometimes you wind up covered in bunnies looking for warmth from their sudden guest. On the other hand, there are a rising number of trips to the hospital for twists and sprains. The bunnies always leave with the snow, so best to enjoy them--or avoid them--for as long as you can.

Alexis hated the cold. The snow that crunched quietly under his paws was an offense to his delicate senses. Not to mention the snow that would clump in his fur if he walked too far in a fresh fall of the dreadful stuff. But as he was currently between homes, it was a terrible necessity. Add in these ridiculous snow bunnies that kept popping up and irritating him. He'd already fallen into several of their foutu burrows and barely escaped with his warmth in tact. He just needed to find a place that was shielded from the worst of the wind and snow to sleep in tonight.

A yawn hit him out of nowhere and between one step and the next he had stumbled into yet another burrow. "Merde!" he cursed, immediately swarmed by cold white bunnies seemed to stir up their own mini snowstorm before they settled against him. Instantly, all of his warmth was stolen, and his temper flared. He let out a fearsome growl followed by a spitting hiss and his claws digging into whatever bodies their met. Unfortunately for Alexis, these snow bunnies had real teeth. One of them bit deep into his flank causing him to howl in pain, followed by a chill such as he had never felt before. He finally managed to escape the burrow, but everything now felt twice as cold as it had before he fell into the burrow. It had sunk deep into his bones and warmth was merely a memory. "Je déteste l'hiver," he grumbled to himself.

Some time later, Alexis found a hollow space in a tree trunk that would serve well enough as a shelter for now. Eventually he fell asleep, hoping the freeze in his bones would melt by the time he woke up.

After school, Ainsley liked to walk home through the park. As long as she let her brother know that's what she was doing. Otherwise, he was there at the end of the school day waiting in his giant all black SUV. And it was embarrassing for all the girls at her school to swoon over him when he leaned on the thing to wait for her to come out.

She (mostly) understood why he was so overprotective of her, since they were both the only family they had left. (Their dad and her mom didn't count since they were in jail.) Noa was in their lives now, and she so hoped her brother didn't ******** things up with her. Again. Now was the breath of fresh air her brother needed in his life. Ainsley did the best she could, but... there were some things the fourteen year old could not help him with.

She sighed to herself as she crunched through the snow. The small forest-like areas that surrounded the park were Ainsley's favorites. She didn't know why, but she had always loved trees. The closer she got to the trees, the more she heard some kind of distressed animal noise. A little investigation and following the sound uncovered a very fluffy grey cat shivering in a hollowed out trunk.

"Oh, you poor thing!" she exclaimed and carefully offered the cat her hand to sniff. "Come here, sweet kitty, I won't hurt you." She wanted to take it home and talk her brother into letting her keep it. She was already thinking of names for it when huge blue feline eyes popped open and seemed to take her in.

A soft growl rumbled from his chest until his gaze met her violet one. The sound died in his throat and he tilted his head to one side. Strange... There was something strange about her. He felt drawn to her somehow, and it wasn't just because she genuinely looked like she wanted to help him. He stuck his face out a little, close enough to be able to sniff at her outstretched hand. She smelled like apple blossoms and caramel, and that too seemed to shake at something in his brain.

Whatever it was, the information was not forthcoming. And yet, just knowing that there was something almost familiar about her made him move. It took him a long moment to unravel himself from the tight ball he had been curled up in. He was still freezing cold and his body shook from the force of his shivers, but he crawled closer to the girl.

When he got close enough, she swooped him up in her arms and immediately wrapped him up with her in her jacket. She mumbled pitying words as she held him securely, carrying him to her home he assumed. Hopefully whatever adults she lived with wouldn't mind having a cat.

It was a b***h to get out of shelters.
