Tis the season for gift giving, a sense of celebration as the year comes to an end. You get all the gifts you expect, and give some out as well. However, a strange, unmarked gift has arrived. You have no idea who sent it, or what it might be. Is it something from an admirer, or possibly a bit more sinister?

[ Your character receives an unexpected gift. Feel free to answer this prompt exploring the thoughts around such thing, the suspicion or confusion, maybe even resolving it with finding out who the gift giver was. Maybe it's someone you know, but it's a surprise. Maybe it's a mistake. The only way to find out is to open the present. ]

It had been a few days, perhaps even a week or more since the sudden cold snap. Aldara had a chance to get herself some warmer clothing from one of the shops in Iory. She even found a way to get something warm for Soran. He sported special made booties to keep his feet and legs warm. Even a sweater like cover that stretched up his neck. Aldara herself was dressed in a thick lined coat and long pants. Her boots were sturdy and ones that kept her feet warm. This was much better gear than what she had started out with. She had pulled her hood up to cover her small ears and protect them from the cold breezes that passed through the trees of Zena.

"Wow it is a lot colder up here than I had thought. I don't know how people can live in such a place." She shivered as she walked beside Soran, her hands still rubbing her arms even though they weren't as cold as before. "Do Chiavi really live in these conditions? It must really suck when they have to try and hatch their eggs. Seems they'd have to stay on the nest and never move."

She had pondered and thought about it and the images made her shiver even more. Having used some time to read up on the area that they would probably head into, Aldara's plans on a quick trip were dashed quickly. They mountains they would have to climb and the fact the weather there could be worse than other areas. She was sure that someone would be on the short end of the stick. She still held a determination to continue, to see all this through.

It certainly had been a time, Draven, now wearing his more winter weather gear. Regale even sporting his own clothing of sorts, the Janarim seemed happy to have the extra layers against the cold that they were to be traversing through. With Iory left behind and supplies gathered. He had waited for Aldara to get herself suited for the climate of Zena before they continued on.

"We adapt to the climate and know when something to too much." Draven said simply as he lead Regale along the road. "Zena is no different than any other region. It's just the opposite of Oba. Where Oba has its heat and many hours of sunlight. Zena has its cold and long nights."

Stopping a moment as Draven gave the area a look around, they had been on the road for days. They were both outfitted with camping gear and food for a few more days. They were still a few days out from the closest town in Zena. They would obviously move faster if they rode Regale, but Aldara had insisted on walking for the greater part of this.

"We're going to push to make it to Eia by nightfall. So we should keep moving." Draven did kind of hated sleeping outside in the snow, but he could continue to do so.

"I don't know if I could adapt to these conditions. I swear my ears are going to freeze and fall off." Aldara protested as she rubbed her ears even beneath the hood. She pulled at the small strings that tightened the hood to close it a bit to cut off the wind.

She noticed that Draven didn't seem to care that his longer ears were exposed to the wind and cold weather. She couldn't understand it, much less how the fauna can survive here without thick coats. Stopping a moment she noticed someone with a large beast, much larger than Regale was and it was covered in thick fur. Tilting her head, this was another thing she hadn't really seen.

"What sort of beast is that?" She asked pointing towards the other earthling that was leading a Mammu that were walking towards them on the other side of the road. She wanted to get a closer look at it, but she wasn't sure how to go about that. Perhaps she could inquire about them in Eia? Was that where they were heading?

"How much further do you think it is until we get to those mountains you say that the Chiavi are suppsed to be at?" She asked Draven, turning away from the Mammu, trying to focus on the task a head.

Draven laughed as Aldara complained about the cold. He hated it the first time he came to Zena. He had protested the fact that he had to get warmer clothing. "Your ears will be fine as long as they are covered. I have grown used to the cold that it doesn't bother mine. Unless it is snowing out like that cold snap weeks ago." He mentions.

He looked towards the traveler leading the Mammu down the road coming towards them. He had seen a good few of them through his travels. "That would be a Mammu. They are very large and used for many thing. Pack animals, meat and hides. All depends on what you need them for." He explained before looking back at Aldara and the horrified look on her face. "What?" He was confused to what he might have spoken wrong about.

"As for the mountains, those are still a few days away. Faster if we can find you something you can ride. Unless you want to continue ride with me." Draven teased, he wouldn't be apposed to the idea. "But one thing at a time, lodging for tonight and plans for tomorrow." The lights of the town of Eia were coming into sight and Draven was wanting to get there sooner rather than later.

"They use those beasts as meat?" Aldara said almost in a panic Then again, now that she thought about it. Her parents had always gotten meat from somewhere. She just never thought of where they had gotten it, before it went to market. "Sometimes I do forget where some things come from."

Turning away from the Mammu as it was lead the opposing direction they were going, she looked a head towards the lights that were coming into view. The thought of warmth and a warm bed. "Lets just get there and plan on where we are going next." She pointed a head as she started to jog. She was trying to avoid another awkward ride.

Draven watched Aldara as she seemed to go through a range of emotions about the Mammu. He could only shake his head as he watched her jog on a head. Didn't she know that they'd move faster while riding? He would have to get her, her own mount if things were going to continue this way. "Getting to town would be the best thing. Get these guys into a warm place."" He kept a eye on the Scorra who seemed to be doing alright. The new weather gear keeping it warm while it carried her things.

"Just don't over exert yourself, The cold can be the worst when you tire quickly." He shouted after the woman, shaking his own head he kicked Regale into an easy lope. The town came into sight and he headed for the closest inn. The one had a stable attached and it was rather warm. Warm enough that Regale wouldn't need all the weather padding.

"You rest up here, we shall see what comes of the morning." Draven petted the Janarim before taking his packs and headed into the inn. There he was to stop short and nearly laugh at the sight before him.

"What do you mean you have only one room? Please tell me it has two beds." Aldara stammered after she had stabled Soran with Regale. The two were becoming fast friends on this trip.

'Well miss, it's a packed house. Travelers coming for the hunt. The room has a single king sized bed.' the innkeeper said indifferently, 'So you can take it or move on with your business.'

Aldara groaned and rubbed her face, just perfect. "I'll take it, my companion shall be coming in after settling our animals." She said with resigned to her fate.

She turned to see Draven standing in the door way. She was sure he had enjoyed the scene, but she couldn't care at this moment. Paying for the room and picked up the key, she waved over towards him. "Come on, got us a room." She then turned and headed around the side of the bar and towards where the ground floor rooms were located.

When she entered the room there was a strange box on the little table in the room. Pausing she wondered if she had entered the wrong room, but the numbers matched. Turning back she looked to see if Draven were following her. "I think someone left something in the room." She called back, only to be answered by silence of the innkeeper.

Draven has been holding back laughter as he had seen Aldara's fiery spirit. She was a firecracker and it was only one of her charms. Shaking his head as she motioned for him to follow he stopped a moment at the bar, "Sorry about her, first time being away from anything familiar."

The innkeeper laughed, 'Tis fine, always nice to see women with fire in them. Reminds me of my wife when she was that age. A keeper that one.' the man chuckled again before moving off.

"That she is." Draven mused with a laugh of his own before following Aldara once more. At the mention of a something being left in the room he poked his head in.

The room was indeed a single bed. It was a large one, plenty of space for the both of them to sleep. Then there was the small box. It was wrapped like a gift, stepping around Aldara he placed his packs down and reached to pick it up. The box was light in his hand and he tossed it towards Aldara. "Should open it, see what's inside. As they often say, finders keepers." While he never lived by that small personal rule, it was something that came up now and again.

"What do you mean open it?" Aldara all but shouted at Draven, her voice certainly louder than she wanted it to be. "Is this even left for us? What if we're opening something that is meant for someone else?"

She looked at the box that he had tossed to her, it was small and light. Could it just be an empty box wrapped up as a joke? Frowning, she rubbed her eyes with her free hand with a sigh. What trouble had she gotten herself into with this man. Fine, he wanted her to open the box. She would do it to prove that it wasn't meant for them.

Walking towards the bed, Aldara set her own packs down and flopped on the bed. They were sharing the bed, things were still a little awkward between them. They were both still new to this whole relationship thing and Aldara was still fighting with herself. She just couldn't seem to be herself around him. Closing her eyes for a moment, Aldara pulled at the strange paper that was wrapping the box.

The paper fell away to show a small white box beneath. Opening that box her face flushed red as she shoved it aside. She caught a glimpse of Draven's confused face. "You wanted it open, now you can see what is inside." With that she rolls over to bury her face into a pillow.

He nearly laughed again at Aldara's cute protests. Really he just wanted to know what was within the box. As it was unwrapped, then shoved aside, Aldara shoving her red face within a pillow. Was the gift that bad? Walking over to the bed he picked up the box and looked inside. While the box was small and nearly fit into the palm of his hand. Within it was something that would be used to occupy a child. This did bring a laugh from Draven as he picked up the rattle.

"Was this what got you to blushing?" He asked shaking the rattle over her head to get a reaction. "Is the thought of children that bad?"

Setting the rattle off to one side, he reached over to pull her into his lap and holder her close. It appeared she had brought the pillow with her. "One of these days I wouldn't mind a child, or two." He put out there..

The hearing of the rattle made Aldara want to smother Draven, she just clung to the pillow even harder. She was sure that her ears were just as red if not redder than her face. Just the fact that the strange gift was in their room and it was something for a child. These things did not make the conversation any easier to process.

"At one point I would love to have children. But I don't know if right now is the best time to have those kids." She said easing her face out of the pillow. "If I were to have children, it would be with someone who loved me. Perhaps another homebody like myself." She mused, though her heart was telling her other wise.

While their interactions were awkward at times, there was a bond forming there. She could feel it, even if wasn't sure if he could as well. Though, the teasing he gave she was sure he felt it too. Sitting up, still clutching the pillow she plucked the rattle from Draven's hand and tossed it a side.

"If you could have children, what sort of person would you have them with?" She asked, still sure her face was red as ever.. Perhaps it was just the heat in the place, the outside was rather brisk after all.

Draven chuckled at the reactions that Aldara gave before she took the rattle and tossed it to the side. Thus ended his fun, but the teasing was getting a little out of hand as she seemed to turn all serious on him. Pulling off what armor pieces he bore, he sat down on the bed in his shirt and pants. "If you found another homebody like yourself, nothing would get done." he commented as he pulled off his boots.

"As for me, I would want someone who was loving. Could take a bit of teasing and not afraid to show their dissatisfaction about things." He glanced in her direction as she was staring at him. He caught that look of longing in her eyes before he looked away to toss his boots towards the door and out of the way. "She'd also have to have a bit of adventure in her blood, not just someone to stay at home all the time. There's more out there than just what you can see out a window." he turned once more towards Aldara, shifting to flop down on the other pillow beside her.

Aldara watched Draven as he started to take his armor pieces off and his boots. She turned her face away from him as he spoke, when she felt the bed move she looked back in his direction. He was laying there, on his side watching her. She felt her heart skip a beat before she calmed it down again, she was sure anyone in the room could hear it.

"So if I were to ask, would you like to have children with me, would you?" She asked again looking away, though side eyeing him. Then there was the realization, what would her parents say!? What would they do if she told them that she was going to have a kid? These were things that made her both worry and fear what might happen.

"All of this is of course future planning." She backtracked a little. Her blush had paled as she continued to think and worry.

Draven watched Aldara as she came around and asked him a question that made him take a pause. Rolling to lay on his back he stared up at the ceiling for a moment. Was he ready for that sort of question? Sure he was old enough for the responsibility of having children around, but he wasn't sure if he was ready to settle down yet. Frowning to himself his thoughts were broken as she seemed to fight with something within herself. He set up and reached out to pull her towards him, wrapping his arms about her.

"If you'd like to have children with me, who am I to say no?" he asked with a chuckle, half hearted as it was, "Future planning, we'll go with that. My mother would kill me if I were to suddenly have kids."

This made even him shiver, Dem was a wrath he wished not to invoke. She was a mother and someone who seemed to adopt every stray and waif that she could find. She took him in when he was alone in the desert of Oba. Not that he had been looking for another maternal figure. She was there.

"When we're both ready to have children running around our feet, we'll give it a try." He agreed as he pulled at her to lay beside him.
