As the year comes to an end, an abnormal cold snap has taken over Tendaji. The mountains of Zena are covered in a blizzard, and even the desert of Oba is feeling a bit of an abnormal chill.

[ What do you get up to during the cold? Do you find a place to warm up, or check up on a friend? ]

”ACHOOO!” Beowulf sneezed as he stepped out into the bitter air. ”When did it get to be this cold?”

Looking around the town that he had found lodging in the small coastal area of Matori. He hadn’t known that the area could get this cold, brisk maybe, like his own home of Yael. Even the other townspeople were shocked at the cold snap that struck the area. Was this something that even they weren’t used to? Rubbing his arms to grant them a little warmth, Beowulf headed for the small provisions shop that the town hosted to travelers. As he entered the shop, he was greeted by the young Assistant behind the counter.

‘Morning, What can I help you with?’ she asked as she toiled behind the counter stocking some dry goods and pulling out more blankets that looked like they had been in storage for a bit.

”Good morning, I was wondering if this weather is normal for these parts.” Beowulf asked as he walked over towards one of the shelves to look for a cloak of sorts.

‘Not really, we don’t get this cold, unless the weather mages pull the cool air from Zena. Or someone makes a big oops.’ the shopkeeper said as she turned towards Beowulf once more. ‘Was there anything that you were looking for today?’

”I hope this is just a huge whoops, sometimes magic can be fickle.” He was looking at the cloaks, his own clothing not exactly the thickest. ”I’ll take one of these cloaks. This cold seeps through what I am wearing easier than water.”

Beowulf picked out a cloak that fell to almost his knees, it was lined on the inside to keep in the warmth. It included a hood that would help save his ears from the chill. He had plans on traveling more north where the cold was stronger. He was sure that he would need more than what he was wearing for this trip. Looking at the Matoran that was manning the store he brought the cloak over to pay for it.

”I hope to head towards the next region to the north. Do you know of a good way to get there?” He asked as the woman took his coin in exchange for the goods.

‘To get there you’d have to take the pass through Oba. If you are headed towards Tale and Zena. I would be careful if you are heading that way. Word on the winds say that it is much colder there than here. Best to bundle up and get some boots.’ the woman advised, ‘I know I don’t have much here, but be sure to visit somewhere along the way to get more gear. Faith is always a nice thing, but it won’t protect you from the cold.’

She had noticed the rosary that was wrapped around his waist. At times he forgot that he had the thing and always the questions he had that were left unanswered. He was of course on a self quest to learn about other faiths and beliefs. So far he had just watched things from afar, not really approaching anyone about these things.

”I mean, I can certainly let it try.” He joked before pulling the cloak over his shoulders. ”So towards Oba?””I am going to need a map for that.”

The shopkeeper laughed as there was a lost look on Boewulf’s face. ‘We have those too. They’ll get you to the city closest to the passage. You can pick up another one there that will give you more regions.’ The woman pulled out one of the maps and placed it on the counter. ‘Will there be anything else?’

”I think this will be everything. I do thank you.” He waved as he exited the shop.

The shopkeeper waved as he exited before going back to her own work. Beowulf pulled his new cloak tight around his shoulders. He could have sworn that it had gotten colder from the time he entered the shop and left. Shaking his head and pulling up his hood, Beowulf headed towards the edges of the town.

”No turning back now.” Beowulf said as he tried to get himself the ambition to move past the protections of the wall. The wooded trail beyond looked foreboding and long. ”No turning back, so on to Oba.” Taking a breath and exhaling it into the chilled air, Beowulf stepped out onto the road and headed towards the more northern reaches of Matori and eventually the pass to Oba.
