Quote: Snowy Showdown (16) : There’s something magical about fresh fallen snow–completely undisturbed and untouched by the rest of the world. It should be relaxing and peaceful–a sign that no one has been around and you’re perfectly safe. Except, the best predators lie in wait, completely invisible to their prey. What do you do when a patch of snow starts clumping together and taking shape right before your eyes? When it all comes together, it looks like a person, only there are no features, just a snowy white form. Maybe there wouldn’t have been an issue if you hadn’t seen it, but it’s too late. In frantic, panicked movements, it lunges at you with icy fists. It feels like being pelted with snowballs, but each hit lowers your core body temperature–rapidly. The creature is highly susceptible to heat and will melt if exposed to it; if you hit it, snow splatters everywhere. It may attempt to reform, but eventually it loses strength. You might not want to stick around to see if it just needs a little more time. If the creature manages to knock you unconscious, you may wake up covered in snow and with a bad cold. You may be more aware of strange, snowy figures that seem to be standing around in odd places; who knows where these things are hiding?
Note: This strange snow monster is not a youma but can be used as a battle requirement for a character. It can only be used as a battle if there are two powered characters involved; you cannot write a solo and count this as a battle, and your character must be powered to meet battle requirements. You can use the prompt for as many characters as you like and it will count as a battle requirement, however if you repeat the prompt with the same character, only the first time will be usable as a battle. Winter was nice, something Pippa always enjoyed running around in and seeing how far she could slide on the ice in her boots. It was no different here in Destiny City even if she was still getting used to how new it all was with a new school in a new country. It seemed so new and fresh, none of the buildings had that history to them she felt when she was back home. Bolting out of the art building after classes, she didn't wait to start dreaming up ideas of what she could do with all this fresh snow before someone moved it off the footpaths and got it all dirty. "Come onnnnnnnnnn Frederick! Let's build a snowman before it gets all gross. If we build enough of them there can be a snow band." Whining as she started to nudge some snow with her boot to get it to start rolling into a ball. It wasn't too wet but she didn't want to really get into the cold of it until she had it started otherwise it might fall apart and she'd eat the ground like she'd done on more than one occasion in winter. Finals week was dragging on so this was a nice break with her brother to poke around this new city.

It was comfort enough for the young man to see that his sister was as cheery here as she was back home. That attitude and energy were much the same was a sign, at least to him, that she was doing far better with the adjustment to this new city compared to him. Which was fine; his usual stoic-leaning-slightly-into-grumpy expression wasn’t doing him any favors in the friend department, anyway.
Not that he ever looked. He was…more the sort to get “adopted” into a friend group, rather than have one form around him, one poor soul at a time. Besides that, he had his own way of handling the adjustment, and it had absolutely nothing to do with the outside world.
So he was happy to see his sister happy, and in his own way was excited to hop into the snow with her. You’d never know it looking at his face, though, with his expression being deadpan as it always was as she tried to get him to hurry.
He never hurried.
“Coming,” he said, voice as flat as ever. He didn’t much enjoy being called by his full name, though tolerated just about anything for Philippa so he didn’t comment. “It won’t melt in an instant, you know.” He made a grab for her bag when he got close enough. “Give, so you don’t get all of your things absolutely drenched when you jump in there.”
And there it was. Barely a flicker of a smile as he quietly lorded his height over her. A gentle tease, and one he loved to mention as often as possible.

Huffing a bit, she slid her bag over without any of the loose papers making their escape. The thing had been shoved full of loose papers, none of which made their home in her binder even though they had the holes to get put in it. The she was in the snow, rolling up a few cold spheres to make haphazard snow men. They weren't perfect; some of the loose powder snow made them look lumpier even after they were stacked together. Standing back a bit, snow falling from her knees where she'd been kneeling in it, she gave them a look over and nodded. "So far so good!" But before she got down to work on another one, she saw an odd-looking snowman off over by one of the trees that was blocked in by a ring of bricks to keep it from growing out into the pavement and ruining the pathways. "Oh, Freddy look! That one has a face!" An excited little noise came out as she bounced on her feet, not noticing that the thing was moving almost imperceptibly and turning towards them. The small stones that made up a somewhat friendly face looked inviting but they were starting to slide down as the thing moved.

Freddy forced his expression into a more neutral one at the sight of all the loose papers. He knew his sister well enough not to expect extensive organization of her papers, books, and other such supplies in her bag, but it was always a jarring thing to see just how bad it could get. He hardly had a chance to comment, though, before he watched her fly toward, and into, the snow.
“Honestly…” he muttered, though the corners of his lips had turned up into the smallest of smiles despite himself. He fixed up her bag and slipped it on so it sat against his chest, so his torso was sandwiched between their book bags while he started making his way into the snow after her.
He was only a few steps in when she mentioned something having a face, and when he turned to see for himself what in the hell she was talking about he could see that not only was there a face, but it almost…was it…
Freddy squinted at it for a long moment before glancing back to Pippa. “Pip, does that look like it’s moving to you?”

Building a snowman was a busy job but she still heard his little complaint about her bag. She didn't feel bad about it, honestly, how could people expect everyone to have everything nice and neat? Sometimes stuff moved around and you didn't have time to get it put away before heading to the next class. Looking back over at the thing, she squinted and watched it for more than the second she had earlier. With her being closest, she got to see what looked like slivers of ice prickling out from under the smooth snow that the thing was made of. "Was there something in our tea?" Looking back up towards Freddy, she figured it would be best to take a look. The oddest thing happened as she moved closer because not only did the snowman actually move, but she saw something on the ground in front of her that hadn't been there just a moment ago. She would have asked what it was but she didn't get the chance before the icy thing broke into a full sprint towards her and her brother. "Oi! ********!" Whatever the thing had been when she grabbed it things felt different and her first thought was... I wonder if this will hurt that thing enough to get it to stop being a wanker.

The teen made a face at her question, but shook his head. “No, I’d prefer to think not.” He wasn’t so naive as to think that there weren’t evil people in DC that would target kids for whatever reason, but they hadn’t been around anyone that gave him that vibe. Not to mention, he was usually particular about their tea because…well.
What passed for American “tea,” as far as he was concerned, was just awful. And he didn’t want his sister to have to tolerate that kind of thing if he could help it.
Oh, but the snowman was moving. In fact, it was coming right at them. Right at Pippa, much to Freddy’s horror. He did his best to trudge through the snow, though bogged down by two bags it was..difficult. And there was no way he’d be able to put himself between it and his sister–
Wait, was that his sister?!
“Oi!” he called, looking quite a bit silly as he high-kneed his way over. “The ******** just happened?!”
– [ ] –********’ snowshits,” muttered the Cosmos Squire as he started to hurry over, some small bit of relief coming over him when he felt an Order aura suddenly flare to life right before his very eyes.
Of course, he would witness such a thing just as he took to patrolling again after the holidays. Kiringul cursed his luck as he, like the silly looking teen walking like something was burning the bottom of his foot every time it touched the ground, did his best to navigate through the snow.
“Just smash it with that thing you’re holding!” he yelled, looking just as silly as he moved. Given his uniform, it wasn’t the easiest feat, but he did alright. It wasn't like looking "cool" was a thing that he felt possible with his outfit so he'd long since given up on the idea. “And dodge, for ******** sake! The punches might freeze you over if you’re not careful!”
When he felt he was within range, he put his horn to his mouth.
Squire — Kiringul takes a deep breath and blows into the horn, however no sound comes directly out of it. Instead, the sound goes directly into the ears of anyone within a 10ft radius; the sound varies between listeners. For opponents it causes the listener to become disoriented in some way (the sound and how it disorients the listener is up to the player) as their mind becomes lost in the vastness of cosmic eternity. It essentially renders them unable to focus as long as Kiringul is channeling his magic, and they can feel confused and dazed and out of place with their surroundings. For allies it gives the listener a soothing sort of clarity, as though they have come out of a peaceful eternity, and allows them to focus better as long as Kiringul is channeling his magic. At second stage, the sound has a maximum duration of 30 seconds.

Pippa had frozen for a moment, having felt something change but not really noticing at first since the main thing she was staring at was the actual living and very much not happy snowbomination. Looking down for half a second she then looked back at her brother. She looked fancy and maybe a bit too prim for her liking but she wasn't feeling as cold as she should be without her coat and jumper on. "Am I a wizard Freddy?" Her eyes sparkled as she saw another weirdly dressed guy running over. It definitely looked like this was some fantasy book stuff and she was living for it. That got her back in action and she got the memo. Turning and swinging the thing, she whammed it into the snow whatever it was, and watched as a hunk of powder snow just... fell off. "WHoOAaahhh" But she didn't get long to rejoice as the thing started to reform, the falling snowflakes helping to pull it back together. "Oh no, not like Hogwarts." Swinging the pail thing again, she watched as more of it fell off, this time not reforming. It didn't stop moving but it seemed to stutter, as if it was trying to decide who to go for. "What the heck is this thing?!" Looking over at the new guy who definitely looked like a magic wizard of some sort.

She…maybe she sounded like Pippa? But it was anyone’s guess. Freddy felt the panic slowly take over as he approached, and apparently so did someone else dressed just as strangely as this non-Pippa person, whoever this was.
“Right now, you could bloody well be for all I care,” he said, eyes going wide at the snow-thing that closed the gap much too quickly for his liking. “But I like that guy’s idea. Smash and weave! Smash and weave!”
He both felt and sounded crazy, but he could deal with all of that later. If he could just get…past…all…this…snow! Then he could be that much closer to being able to help her, though how he would be of any help right then, he had no idea.
– [ ] – Oh, good. She heard him, and listened. Apparently so did the guy she was with, though unlike her, he wasn’t powered at all. With how angry he sounded, Kiringul wondered why not. Order could use a bit more anger behind it in the interest of trying to even the playing field even a tiny bit.
The Squire hopped toward them until he was within conversing distance, and for good measure he purposely plopped himself on top of the mount of snow that was stuttering and trying to come back to life. With the final stomp, it stopped trying, and he heaved a little sigh.
“Snowshits,” he said with a scowl, as if that answered her question. “Part of DC’s magical ******** for its citizens. Usually likes to swing around during the holidays. Lucky you.” Pink eyes snapped up and down the new Page, and then over the civilian. Curious, judging, maybe feeling a little hopeless for their sakes.
“Name’s Kiringul. Yours?” he nodded toward the Page. “It should be in the back of your mind, like a bit of trivia you didn’t know you knew until someone asked the right question.”

If she wasn't still shocked that the crazy snow thing wasn't going down yet she might have laughed at her brother's words but she didn't get much of a chance to swing again before the other guy had come in and dealt the last blow. "Whoah." Stepping back slightly as some of the snow flew everywhere, she wasn't sure if it would like be all creepy and crawl back together or something. "Oh! Magic?! Like actual magic?!" Ignoring the rest of what they said for a moment, she was already imagining all sorts of fantastical things before she realized she wasn't sure how to answer their question, at least not at first. "Ah cripes... uh my name is.... wait Chillingham. Huh, how do know that?" Looking in confusion between her brother and Kiringul, she scratched slightly at her head. But then she could agree with what they were saying, like one of those pop quizzes that sometimes came up on older topics. That feeling of something getting knocked loose to answer a question. "Freddy are you okay?"

It was hard to decide whether he was more relieved about his sister being okay or about the fact that he made it to her after the snowthing had been taken care of. Admittedly, the most he could bring to an aforementioned fight is probably a very, very good set of lungs–all the better to scream for help.
Regarding his sister first, or…who was apparently his sister? But her name was Chillingham?
“I’m fine,” he said, sounding a bit winded but otherwise, true to his word, he was perfectly alright. “You, on the other hand,” he said, voice stern as he scanned her for injuries of any kind, brows furrowed in a mix of worry and frustration. Usually when something was going on with his sister was when he showed the most emotion, but when he saw that she was fine as well he slipped back into the usual indifference.
“Well. You seem…okay. But you,” and he turned his time to the man clad in some kind of rainbow outfit inspired by an Asian drama. Eyes narrowed in suspicion, because he apparently knew about…whatever the hell just happened. And honestly, dressed the way he was–the way they both were–maybe he shouldn’t be surprised.
“Who the <********> are you?”
– [ ] – Well at least she seemed…energetic. Kiringul had mixed feelings about that, by now having more than just an inkling of what was in store for her in DC.
“Yes, actual magic,” he replied, making a face at the now drenched state of the lower portion of his uniform. It was a simple fix–power down and then back up again–but he…really didn’t want to do that right then, so he just let out a sigh and glanced back up as she eventually returned his introduction. He logged the name away before turning to the civilian and curling his lip.
“No one you need to worry about. Look, this,” he gestured vaguely to their surroundings, “there’s a hell of a lot more to it than this. If you have any questions right now, I’ll try to answer them. If you have questions later, I can give you my number if you want. We can meet, do a crash course if you want.”
While he probably wasn’t going to be the greatest teacher, it felt…right…to offer what help he could. Mel had been there to help him through his own beginnings, and it felt like a good idea to offer them the same.
