Snowy Showdown (16) Prompt

Bad as it was, Isaiah had um… sort of… forgot about the whole uh…. Knight thing.

Well. Not fully. How could he? The magic, the aliens? Going to the moon? It was all so amazing! Scary, terrifying.... But beautiful.

Just uh. That stuff didn't exactly pay bills. Or complete the various assignments he needs for his courses. Or get all the morning baking done for the store before hungry folks come knocking for warm, comfy breakfast.

So he'd just… shelved it. Proverbially.

It hadn't been exactly difficult to do. Just don't reach out to that strange power that he felt bloom from his chest those times he powered up. Focus on his normal life. Thoughts of all of that stuff just slid away over time, buried under responsibilities and the day-to-day bustle of Destiny City.

Minus, of course, those times when the very nature of Destiny City and it's inhabitants peeked out from behind the curtains, and Isaiah had brief moments of, oh yeah. That stuff. Should I go help?

Only for that to be promptly shut down. He didn't know how to fight. What could he do with the feather he carried? Tickle someone? Yeah that'd go well.

When the snows hit, though, and the city was aglow with holiday joy and festivities, Isaiah stopped one night and let himself remember the first snow he'd awoken as Yetzirah in. Falling into those snow bunnies' tunnels and the like. Meeting that nice lady.

The memories flickered, the beautiful, the terrifying, the awe-inspiring.

Isaiah let himself be… whimsical. Indulgent. He'd reached out to that warmth, that energy, and let it flow through his veins, limbs tingling as something wrapped around him. Ethereal, sparkling like stars and swirling like galaxies, he felt an overwhelming sense of comfort as he let himself step into that… that garb. That identity.

Yetzirah opened his eyes, pink blinking at the flurries that drifted around him, and he smiled. The outfit that looked more befitting for a dance recital, or perhaps an ice skating competition, was surprisingly warm. Even with most of his chest exposed. Ha!

All smiles and light steps as he moved through quiet streets, along a park that was blanketed in white. Crisp, clear air tickled his nose and he had only just begun to wonder if he'd find those snow bunnies again when he frowned, ears perking.

Shuffling. Soft sounds, but definitely something moving in the snow. Immediately, he beamed, hopping the low fence into that section of the park. The bunnies, surely! The street lights and park lamps made the snow glitter and shadows twist his vision, but he could hear snow being moved about… somewhere near. Quietly, he crept along, eyes to the ground around him as he searched for what he, assumed, were the tiny bundles of adorable fluff.

And hopefully not twist his ankle falling into one of their hidden tunnels…

The more she learned about herself as a Knight, the more she learned about her Wonder, the more Ekstrom found reason to power up regularly. Sure, it didn’t pay the bills or get any of her coursework done for her. Nor did it build up any of her work relationships, or friendships or, gods forbid, her love life (that she was pretty sure was now non-existent). The amount of distance she’d put between herself and her ex had to be enough of a sign for him to get it by now, right?

Knowing him, it wasn’t likely, but. Well. She could tolerate dodging more calls. She was used to it by now.

But she wasn’t out and about because she wanted to dodge calls from her ex. No, Ekstrom was out because she felt it was a genuine duty to patrol, to do her part that, big or small, she was sure contributed to the grand scheme of things. She wasn’t sure what else the universe had in store for her in the future, but if she was handed this mantle it had to be for a reason. She held fast to that belief, let it propel her forward in her every Knightly endeavor.

Tonight’s patrol had been primarily uneventful, thankfully, and she was at just about the tail end of it when she heard something, the faintest sound of snow…moving? The sound was almost muted amidst the snowy landscape of the park, and as she moved toward the sound she saw it coming together. A snowy…something…not too far from her, or from the other Order aura she could sense coming toward her.

She frowned at that, adjusting her shield on her arm as she moved to intercept the oncoming aura.

“Heads up,” she called as she moved, icy blue eyes trained on the fully formed snowthing.”There’s something here, not sure what yet but I doubt it’s anything good.” It was glancing around, as though uncertain for a moment until it locked onto the oncoming Knight.

He'd forgotten what other auras felt like.

The sudden... sense that someone else was there, like a magnet drawing a particularly marked hand of a compass in his mind. Order. He'd experienced very little, but the big alien and Negaverse fight he'd been (sort of) part of had been a great (read all the sarcasm in that, please) crash course in what sensation, what aura, meant what. This? This was not one of those uh.... Chaos? Ones? This didn't feel crackly and static-y like the Dark Mirror girl he'd met, wasn't the ominous sort he'd felt from the Negaverse.

Process of elimination...

Yetzirah's mission to find more snowbunnies was set aside for a brief moment, pink eyes lifting to the woman in white and blue. He came to a halt, a mix of excitement at meeting a new person, and... well. Absolute confusion. Heads up..?

It was only then that he realized the sound of moving snow, what he'd first thought was just the harmless snowbunnies, had gotten all the louder, and the groaning of snow grinding against itself sounded like some angry animal as... it... got up.

A mound of snow got up. On two legs.

Yetzirah blanched, taking quick steps back in the snow away from the thing that took heavy steps towards the woman. "N-no kidding... don't happen to have a lighter on you, do you?" The snow creature swung one of its thick arms at the knight with the shield, the roaring, grinding sound increasing all the more.

“Actually...”

Ekstrom smirked as she summoned a blow torch from her subspace and tossed it over to the other Knight. Just in time, too, as the thing decided to take a swing at her. She could explain about the why behind the blowtorch later, if they wanted to know, but for now she held her shield up and grimaced through the impact. It was strong, enough that she had a feeling she’d be nursing her arm for all of tomorrow if this fight lasted too long.

“I’ll keep its punches focused on me,” she said, pushing the snowman off of her and taking a swing at it with her shield. She clipped its body, but it came back at her with a flurry of punches. “Try to make a torch or something!”

He'd been joking, sort of, so the sudden appearance of an actual blowtorch had him bewildered and befuddled, head tilting and brows furrowed as he tried to figure out why she would have one of those...

Only for her to toss it at him, and Yetzirah had to somewhat dive and fumble with it for a moment before he had the device securely in his grasp.

"That was rhetorical, why do you have this?" He still fiddled with the dial, the gas turning on and in an instant... fire!

He had a brief moment of wondering if he could just... set his quill pen on fire..? But that wouldn't hold a flame for long, and then the metal would probably get hot and burn him so...

He scrambled, searching till he found a fallen branch that was small enough for him to break off a section. Ripping off the delicate transparent sleeves from his arms, he wound them around the top of the stick, aware that the knight was dealing with the snowman throwing punch after punch, and any injuries getting melded right back together with more snow.

The blowtorch made quick work of his sleeves on the stick, flames licking and lapping about as they began to feast on the wood itself next. One torch, success!

He at least made sure to turn the blowtorch off before he took hold of the torch like a bat and.... well!

Charged in waving the flaming stick about at the snowman!

The torch came soon enough, and Ekstrom beamed a smile at the other knight when she saw him charging in, swinging. It looked…dangerous…but the snowman was the least of her concerns. At least not one that was aiming punch after punch at her, some of which connected and she could feel herself freezing from the inside out with each one.

“Nice!” she cheered and stepped aside, putting the snowman right in his path while she was just to the side of the action so to speak. Not wanting to risk the snowman changing its target, she held on behind her shield until the flame cut through the thing a few times before starting to swing again.

Her shield met with slosh, it was like smacking around a snowman-shaped slurpee.

Oh!! It!! Was actually working!!

Yetzirah at least knew enough to keep the flaming bat as far away from the knight as possible, he still couldn't help but grin at how fast the fire was melting away the snowman. It hissed and snarled, still trying to smash her shield, but Yetzirah's fiery presence had it trying to swat at him...

...and got its hand right into fire. Ha!

Its form began to shift and droop, sections of slush slipping off into the snow below. Yetzirah tried to swipe a few times at the thing's head, causing it to slump and bubble.

Its arms were gone, melted away, and its legs could barely hold it up any more--not that there was much left as the page kept swinging the flame around the snow, circling till he was more next to Ekstrom to help make sure he didn't accidently burn her.

"This is working great! At least magical snow-things are still just... snow."

She did what she could to contribute to the smashing of this ornery snowman, and soon enough it had melted down into a mound of slop on the ground. Satisfied with their work, she turned to the other knight and grinned while offering a hand for a high-five. It wasn’t a common thing for her, but it was good work! And quick thinking on their part, working together like that. It probably wasn’t such a bad thing to pat themselves on the back for it.

“Right?” came a little giggle as she glanced down at their handiwork. “If only all of Chaos were as easy to deal with.” It was wishful thinking that she quickly dismissed. No sense in dwelling on it. Actually, it made her think that they ought to focus more on training to really, properly handle themselves in those far more serious fights.

“I’m Ekstrom, by the way. Nice job with the torch there.”
