Quote: Snow…Angels? (15) : After a fresh snowfall, is there anything better than laying down in the snow and making your own mark? Snow angels are simple and easy. Except, for some reason, every time you try to make one it turns into some horrible monster. No matter how many you attempt, or how correctly you do it, by the time you get up there is only the silhouette of a horrifying creature lying where you just were. Sometimes it hardly even looks human.
Taking a small break from patrolling, Nymphe had spent the last five minutes eyeing a snow drift speculatively. The snow was so white and pristine… it would be a shame to disturb such soft perfection. But at the same time, she was gripped by a nigh insatiable urge to throw herself down and make a few snow angels. Sure, it was childish, but no one was around to judge her.
Maybe just one little snow angel…
Glancing around, the senshi of ambrosia actually giggled before turning on her heel and throwing herself backwards into the snow. Fanning out her arms and legs, she dug as deeply into the snow as she could. It was only when she realized that she risked ruining her work by clambering up. As she lay in the snow for a few moments, considering her options, Nymphe felt a nearby aura that seemed friendly enough. Since it didn’t make her skin crawl, it had to belong to someone nice, right?
Calling out, she hoped whoever it was wouldn’t be too terribly judgy. She’d only been having a little fun, after all.
“Excuse me, but can you come to help me stand back up? I don’t want to spoil my angel!”

Haik was…sort of…learning to enjoy the snow. The movies made it look plenty fun at the best of times, and he was trying to think only good things about it, so as he looked on at the snowy landscape around him he imagined the scenes from the movies he’d watched recently: snowball fights, building snowmen and other structures, sledding…
Nothing was really working, but that was maybe more because he was really more of a summer man, which made his arrival this past summer absolutely perfect. You know, if he didn’t count the adventure to the space museum and getting stranded at the reservoir for several weeks right after that as bad experiences, that is.
Haik let out a little sigh as he was coming upon another’s aura, though he didn’t see them right away. It was only when they called out to him that he realized they were in the snow, and moving closer and peering over the otherwise pristine layers of snow, he finally saw them.
“An angel?” he asked as he offered a hand. “How does one make an angel in the snow?”

From where she lay in the snow, Nymphe smiled and carefully lifted one arm to wave cheerfully at the man who’d appeared. Then, taking his hand, she let him pull her up and out. As she dusted herself off, she dimpled at the stranger before explaining.
“You’ve never made a snow angel? Have you ever seen one? It’s very easy to do. You just fall back into a nice drift and wave your arms and legs until the snow under you looks like an angel! Look, I’ll show you…” Nymphe’s voice faded into a horrified whisper as she looked down at the angel she’d just made.
Instead of what should have looked like a generic gowned and winged figure, she was staring at something more akin to a mis-shapen beast.
“That’s not how it’s supposed to be!” she wailed. Without hesitation, she stomped over to a fresh drift and turned towards her rescuer. “I’ll show you. Maybe I just landed wrong the first time. So, first, you fall back, then wave your arms up and down to make wings and your legs out and in to make the angel’s gown.”
Moving slowly and carefully to demonstrate, she made sure to keep her body still as her arms and legs worked. Surely this time it would turn out right.
As she carefully levered herself up and out, Nymphe nearly started to cry right then.
“Why does it look like that?” she howled. Then, turning to the other senshi, she pointed to another drift. “You! You try it. Maybe I’m not picking good drifts. They’re not supposed to look like spider people!”

Haik smiled in turn, glad that he was able to help her out, and nodded along as she explained how to snow angel. It seemed simple enough, and just as they were finishing the explanation he turned to look at their snow angel.
His face crumpled slightly in confusion. “I hope not,” he said, glancing back at the other, heart somehow broken for her at the way she wailed. It surprised him that she seemed to take it to heart, but he let it go simply as a possibility for some. She seemed to be fond of snow angels, so taking that into consideration…it did make a little more sense.
“That certainly doesn’t look at all angelic,” he said, watching as she stomped off and soon fell back into the snow to show him how snow angel-ing was supposed to be done. Admittedly, he rather liked the practical example. It looked fun, he thought as he watched, though when she came up again the “angel” in the snow was anything but.
He gave her a pat on the shoulder in an effort to comfort her, and hoping to stop any possible tears (because she sounded close to them) he promptly fell back into a nearby drift and followed her example when she asked him to. He kept his body still and waved his arms and legs as best he could. It was…cold and wet…but fun! He waved about in the snow for a minute before getting up and turning to see that his angels, too, were horrifying.
It reminded him of a certain breed of cephalopod from his homeworld.
“I don’t think they’re meant to look like a sea creature from my planet, either…” he said quietly to himself, looking as confused as ever. Certainly the way they’d been flailing about in the snow shouldn’t have caused such shapes to appear in the snow, but…well…

Nymphe felt her attention grabbed, just slightly, by Haik’s offhand remark about his planet. Was he not from Earth? Was she talking to a real alien? Could he provide insight when it came to Bigfoot?
The thoughts were quickly squashed and refocused on the present as she stared at the three attempted snow angels. Tipping her head to the side, she stared at the one Haik had made. If that looked like something from his planet, she was fairly certain that she did not ever want to visit. Was… was all of this somehow a bit? Were they being pranked? She couldn’t see how, but one never knew in Destiny City.
Closing her eyes, she focused. There were no chaotic auras anywhere nearby. And even if there were, how could they control snow angel physics?
“I,” she announced in a steady voice, “am going to try one more time. There is no reason for the snow to do this and I am fairly sure that I have not offended any elves lately.”
Stomping over to a pristine patch, she scanned it, nodded once, turned and threw herself backwards as the loose, powdery snow poofed up in a sparking cloud around her. Moving methodically, she wriggled her arms and legs in the appropriate manner. Once she was satisfied that she’d done all she could, she very carefully got up and moved from the spot.
The resulting angel, she thought, was even worse than the other three. There was a hint of the eldritch to it that made her wonder if they’d all somehow fallen into a Lovecraftian story full of madness and non-Euclidean geometry.
“I don’t think we can call these snow angels. I am not sure what they should be called. But if shadowy cultists pop out of the bushes to worship them, I am going to be very annoyed.”

Her persistence was admirable, he thought as he watched her try and ultimately fail for a third time that evening. Staring at the four horrid silhouettes in the snow, the senshi heaved a heavy sigh. “It was a good effort on your part,” he said as he patted her on the shoulder in the hopes that she would find the gesture comforting.
“Why not call them as they are, snow monsters, and leave it at that for tonight? And if such people do come out we can wrestle them into submission and demand an explanation?” He was prepared to use his powers for such a thing if it helped to cheer her up.

Finally admitting defeat, Nymphe stared at the four outlines and sighed, nodding agreement.
“Snow monsters, it is. I don’t understand how or why the snow is doing this, but it annoys me very much.”
She did brighten a little and actually chuckle at Haik’s offer to wrestle cultists. Really the mental image of Haik terrorizing hunched and robed figures was too funny. And as she laughed, some of her gloom lifted.
“I think I would leave the wrestling to you. You have the build for it and would be much more intimidating than me. The best I could offer would be to kick them in the shins, which they would absolutely deserve for making such awful things out of an innocent snow angel!”
Sighing again, because now she was just sad that Haik’s first snow angel was a horrible mess, she thought hard, wanting to give him something nice to remember since it seemed this was his first winter here.
“How do you feel about frozen hot chocolate?” she asked, coming up with a halfway decent idea. The place she was thinking of would still be open and happy enough to serve them. “It is very good and they put all sorts of lovely things in and on it and as far as I know, they only make it this way during this time of year. You will let me treat you, yes? Since we could not make a proper angel?”
It was a little thing to offer in the face of the kindness and comfort he had given her, but sometimes, the little things were the best and most heartfelt.
”its_p a o” we can probably wrap this on your next post if you want. smile

”Oh, a good kick in the shin is plenty,” the senshi chuckled, glad to see that she seemed to be coming out of it. Maybe not fully, but it was a step in the right direction. “And they would absolutely deserve it, so I can wrestle them in the optimal position for you to give them each a good kick in each shin, not just the one.” Double the retribution, double the satisfaction, he thought to himself. This was, after all, hypothetical.
Would he actually do it if they did come out? Of course. Did he expect them to? Not really, but the thought of a bit of revenge was still sweet.
Haik looked on at the silhouettes, wondering about the reason for them getting ruined in the first place. He came to the quick conclusion that Earth was, indeed, a strange place, when Nymphe suddenly offered to treat him to a seasonal drink. Blinking, he tried to imagine what this drink would be like…
“That sounds fascinating,” he said after just a moment of thought. “If you don’t mind leading the way?”
The offer for something both frozen and hot at the same time was enough to pull his thoughts away from the disappointing angels, and the senshi wore a big smile as they headed off to grab the drinks. Sometimes it really was the little things that helped the most.
eldritch stardust My apologies for the wait~! ;; I went ahead and wrapped it up, please lmk if you want/need me to change anything. c:
