Faint scowl puckering up her face, Bryn sighed and rapped her knuckles against the deck of cards in her hand. None of her usual means of stilling her mind were working and the cards were her last hope of stopping her brain from racing around like a rabbit on cocaine. Closing her eyes, she took in a deep breath through her nose and held it for a few seconds. Then, she began to shuffle the deck.

She hadn’t any particular question or worry, but sometimes liked to do simple, general readings for herself. And she’d found the prettiest oracle deck at the crystal shop the last time she’d visited. Oracles couldn’t be that much different from tarot. And it would be fun to learn a new system. Not that there seemed to be much of a system for these, she thought. From the look through she’d had earlier, oracles seemed to be aimed more towards questions that didn’t need a lot of reading between the lines. More… yes or no. Or, in the case of one deck she’d examined, but ultimately passed up, if you just wanted some good thoughts to hold on to for the day.

Finishing her shuffle, she considered how to frame her question. She didn’t really have much on her mind. No worries or concerns and she was pretty content with the state of her life at the moment. Hrmm.

General reading it was. If there was something the universe wanted her to think on, she’d let it tell her. Closing her eyes again, she held the deck in one hand and began to slide cards out into the other. If anything flipped over or literally jumped out, she’d take that as her message.

Keeping her desire for knowing whatever it might be that she should be thinking about firmly in her mind, Bryn let the cards fall into her hand and tried to not get annoyed when nothing immediately jumped out at her. Fine. Okay. That just meant that she wasn’t doing a very good job focusing. She could do this.

Pausing, she set the deck down on her desk and stood up, pacing her room and letting out annoyed-with-herself growls. After a few minutes, she forced herself to breathe slowly. Whatever had crawled under her skin was tenacious and she suspected that it was the double life she was living. In spite of how nicely she could convince herself and others that everything was fine, she was scared by this senshi business. Yes, it had been years since she’d awakened. No, nothing bad had happened to her. But it was still kind of scary. And it wasn’t something that she could just ignore. Therefore, she was going to have to suck it up and figure her s**t out.

Fine. She would actually sit down and figure some things out. After she finished her reading.

She breathed in and out for a few more moments before sitting down and taking the deck up in her hands. Rapping against it once more, she began to re-shuffle. Almost immediately, a card slipped out, flipping around and landing face up on the desk. Staring in bemusement, Bryn shook her head and laughed. Wasn’t that always the way…
“Thanks, Universe,” she muttered as she took up the card and examined it. “Nice to know you have a sense of humor.”
