Mystras had already dusted one youma on patrol that night, but that was fine. Youma she could handle. The spooky stuff that had been popping up over the last few weeks? Yeah, that stuff was worse, but luckily now that Halloween was officially over, everything seemed to have calmed down on that front.
Now, the city’s problems were back to problems she could punch. Problems she could deal with.
And, once they were dealt with, she could even tell that there was another knight somewhere around, which made her grin. One of the best parts of all this magic was that it came with a built in radar for potential friends.
“Hey, knight bro!” she called out when she spotted a coat that seemed a little too puffy for the unseasonably warm night. “What’s up?”

Destiny City’s yearly proving the fact that Halloween was supposed to be spooky seemed to be over. He was relieved. It wasn't that he minded any of the weird events that happened so much as it was inconvenient. Nothing so far. Had actively harmed him in those months, although he understood that he was a bit of a rarity in that…
Still, it was mostly that it made his patrols easier. He didn't have to worry about strange spiders, for example, that weren't actually Youma coming after him. He could just dust Youma, as expected, or chase off lieutenants and more … green senshi.
Generals were a bit of a different matter, but thankfully he hadn't run into any of those.
A greener page, though, in both appearance and in level, was a welcome sight. He saluted to her as she came toward him, greeting with a typical, “Howdy!” and a following laugh. “Ah, not much. Just patrolling and dusting some youma. Shooing a lieutenant back home. The typical.”
His posture relaxed, and he idly swung his weapon around. “Patrol going easily for you?”

“Howdy,” she repeated, for the fun of it, and gave a quick laugh of her own. “I like your accent. Where’re you from?” Her guess would’ve been Texas, but she knew better than to assume. Didn’t need to dredge up some kind of state rivalry with a stranger.
“And my patrol’s been okay. It’s probably good you got to the lieutenant first, though. I’m sure you’d have better luck scaring them off than someone like me.”
It was unfortunate, since she wanted to be powerful enough to stand up to people better than she could right now, but then again she was a very new Page, and she didn’t think she got any kind of bonuses or progress from whatever had happened with the Negaverse before all of this.

Her citing his accent drew a merry laugh. To everyone, he sounded obviously not from the area, and to some degree obviously, “Texas!” He cautiously tapped into his aura sense for a moment, before continuing that with a, “San Antonio area, specifically, if that has any context for you.”
And by Cosmos and G-d did he miss San Antonio sometimes, but he knew better than to do more than visit. His husbands were here. The threat was here. And the threat to his whole g-ddamn life was there. It was a curse, really.
“Probably. I know how that s**t feels, though. I can tell them to go on, git a lot easier than I could at your level.” It hadn't necessarily stopped him, though. Underneath the piles of coats was actually some muscle. It had gotten more significant since he started this s**t.
He paused.
“Wanna walk together?”

“Oh, I love Texas,” said Mystras with a grin, stepping a little closer. “Last time I went, I was in Austin. I found the best brisket I’d ever tasted in my entire life. Blew my mind, bruh. You said San Antonio, though?”
She squinted for a second, just to make sure she wasn’t forgetting any of her many road trips, but no. She shook her head. “Should I put it on my list, or is it one of those places that’s not worth it?”
Some people loved their hometowns, and some people loved to hate on them.
“But yeah, we can walk together,” she told him. She’d already started falling in stride, honestly. “Then we’ll have even more of a chance of keeping the baddies away, yeah?”
A moment passed before she added, “Name’s Mystras.”

“San Antonio is absolutely worth it.” Some people loved their hometowns. Some hated them. Promethei fell into the first category. He didn't love his youth for a variety of reasons, but San Antonio itself wasn't one of them. “There’s a lot to do there that you can't do in many other parts of the country. It's home to the largest Mexican market, for example.”
Shooting her a grin as she came closer to fall in step, Promethei started moving. “If you visit, I definitely recommend experiencing NIOSA. Four day festival. I absolutely love it.”
… Maybe he should make some time to visit San Antonio soon. Say hi to his nieces and nephews. Snatch some food from his parents’ restaurant. Razz Amos in person instead of over text. Where was he? Oh, right– “That's the goal, right?”
Mystras was a nice name, honestly. “Promethei,” he offered, merrily. “Of Mercury. I don't know exactly how long you've been doing this but most of us knights are obvious. Hard to hide and pretend we're something else.” He gestured at some of the Mercury symbols on his outfit.
“Jupiter for you, right?” … and he had a good point when he mentioned how long she had been doing this. Imhotep stayed a page for a while. He made no assumptions. “How long you've been at this?”

“Sounds amazing,” said Mystras, who to be fair was not the hardest to convince when it came to travel experiences. Yeah, she loved the festivals, and the world famous landmarks, but honestly she could be happy just eating gas station snacks and texting pictures to her friends, as long as she got a change of scenery every once in a while.
“I’d say I’m about due for a road trip, but,” she puffed out her cheeks, “Lost my motorcycle when I purified.”
She didn’t mention it like it was something to be ashamed of, or even like it was anything all that interesting. She was having to rebuild her life from the ground up. It ended up being annoying sometimes. There was no reason she couldn’t tell this Mercury page that she had lost her motorcycle.
“Which, since then it’s been like two months? Three? So, a little bit, but I haven’t seen any Mercury knights yet. You’re the first one, bruh. Mostly it’s been Uranus and Neptune.”

She purified! Promethei did a double-take for a moment, pieces beginning to fit into place in his mind. Did he know her before? Had she been someone he kicked the a** of, or was this something else-
“Welcome to the right side, then.” He grinned. “Know chaos makes s**t muddy sometimes, but-”
Muddy enough that he sometimes found himself a bit uncertain of if he should go in swinging. Those in his life had helped encourage the opposite, but all the same. “Nothing says you can't get a new bike, at least. Know it's easier said than done, though. Bikes ain't cheap.”
Unfortunately. At least they were cheaper than ******** cars-
“Neptune and Uranus … suppose I know quite a few of those too.” Abzu, for one. “Husband is also Mercury. We seem to be rare.” Promethei's brows knit. Mercury was a small planet. Maybe it made slightly more scientific sense than the fact that they were apparently from Mercury in the first place. “My other husbands are Earth and Moon respectively, though.”
Did he know her from somewhere? Promethei tried to keep his tight observation of her a bit less obvious.

“Yeah,” she said, sighing about the price of bikes. “Just gotta start saving up again.”
It was easier said than done when there were so many other things that she’d also walked away from and ended up needing to buy again. There were people like Michelangelo who might’ve been able to help, but that felt a little bit like cheating. She always wanted to be the kind of person who handled stuff herself, as much as she could.
She’d already moved out from the Bell’s.
“But anyway, I’m glad to be here.” The grin was easy. “Sounds like you have a whole collection of husbands. How many is that?”
It was impressive. Just one husband seemed like too much commitment for her.

“Three,” Promethei sounded smitten as much as he could, his usual brassy tone sounding just a bit softer when he talked about them. “Imhotep of Mercury was the one I fell for first, but he was already connected to the two others – Amoris of the Moon and Emain Ablach of Earth. I was fine with him staying with them,” Promethei shrugged.
He had honestly been more fine with it than he had expected. In his experience, he hadn't met very many polyamorous people. But something about it always seemed so comfortable, and it especially seemed comfortable when he was dealing with Diryas and the two men he didn't want to let go of. “After a while of being around them all so endlessly, guess I'm a hopeless romantic.”
Promethei wasn't as romantic as Tobias or even Teegan with his cupioromantic tendencies, but he could call out himself. There was nothing wrong with owning that much.
He ran a hand over his hair. “More husbands than you could shake a stick at, yeah?” As he looked over at Mystras again, pulled away from his swagging bluster, it hit him again that he knew her somehow. But how? She had purified, and he hadn't run into her yet…
Well. He had recognized Ransomite was Teegan was Emain Ablach quickly once the identity was revealed. Maybe there was something else he could use to trip the thought and get around the magic.
Or maybe–
He squinted at her.
“Ha! Think we’ve spoken before too, actually.”

“Emain Ablach,” mumbled Mystras, because it sounded weirdly familiar, but she had to think about it hard for a few seconds before it hit her all at once. “Yeah! I do know who that is. He was the one who had my room at the Be-” She caught herself. “At the safehouse before I did.” She tilted her head.
“Which means you,” she pointed a single finger gun at him, with a half smile and a cocked eyebrow, “and your squad are the gay uncles, huh?” She didn’t laugh this time, but the smile didn’t let up. “At least that’s what one of the girls there liked to call you guys.”
It was a cute name, and hearing Promethei talk about his husbands was kind of cute, too, even if the thought of that much commitment made her head spin a little bit.
“And yeah. It’s possible you saw me before,” she said with a shrug. “As far as we can tell, I got out as quick as I could, but there’s a lot I don’t remember. My name was Minnie, though. Minyulite.”

His lip quirked up as he shifted again. “Nikki, yeah? She's a delight.” He needed to ask her how it was going with her remaining chaos boy, seeing as she was committed to that one. Hopefully the other remained that way, considering he'd have to have words with the other one if he ever saw him– “I am one of them, yeah. Emain Ablach is another one.”
Promethei didn't mind talking openly about who he was connected to. He couldn't sense any chaos auras, and even if he did, he was fairly sure the four of them were an obvious unit. That … Borax? He was fairly sure that it was Borax. He had already seen them patrolling together.
And he'd kick his a** again if he had to.
His grin only widened when she confirmed she was Minyulite. “Ha! I'll have to tell Amoris my attempt did work– ah, I did meet you. While back. You seemed surprised that starseeds were souls.” Promethei tilted his head. “Tried out the not gonna attack you first approach with you.”

“Nikki. Yeah, I think that’s her knight name,” said Mystras with a nod. She was a fun one. Kinda bold. Promethei didn’t seem at all surprised that she’d called him a gay uncle to someone who was just an acquaintance. Luckily he didn’t seem offended either.
“But hey if you know those people do you know Pendour at all?” She lowered her voice. “Sadie? They’re my sibling, they live there too.”
Pendour wasn’t quite as outgoing as Nectaris though, so maybe not.
“And hey, I’m glad that you didn’t go straight to attacking! Obviously I must have needed some advice or something to get out.” She paused for a second, pressing one fist into the other in front of her. “I dunno if that can be an all the time strategy, though. With some of what’s going on here? I think a bunch of those guys might just need to get punched, bruh.”

Pendour. Did he know Pendour?
… Yes. When he pulled in his memories, he remembered coming across a knight who hadn't wanted to watch him dust a Youma. She had healed him, but he could tell there was a tension there that he hadn't quite resolved. He hadn't run into her since, though he understood Emain Ablach seemed to know her.
Wait … They. Sadie. That meant a few more things. Zebulon hadn't crossed paths with Sadie himself, but Michelangelo had absolutely glowing reviews of the one he wasn't unconvinced wouldn't marry that one. If Mystras watched him, she would notice the series of recognition before he responded, “I have met them. Do know of them otherwise. They're with Abzu a lot, aren't they?
“But,” he cleared his throat. “Think you did. Need some advice, I mean. I think I helped you on that way.” At least, that was what Promethei hoped. Well. She had broken out, clearly, “I agree, though. Reason why I tended to go straight to distributing beatings before. Kinda gotta’ suss out who is redeemable, y’know?” Promethei snorted. Sounded like something Emain Ablach would say, with an element of sarcasm-
“I don't like using that word, but it's a good joke.” Hopefully she appreciated it.

“Yeah, Pen and Abzu are actually talking about getting married,” said Mystras, and conversationally added, “But there’s a lot of people who they have to make sure are cool with it, ‘cause there’s, like, Sadie and Ignacio, and Luke and Michelangelo, and maybe some other people too.” Hopefully nobody was listening, because Mystras had kinda given up on being too careful.
“Sorry, bruh,” she told him. “I guess I shouldn’t assume you have the whole dynamic memorized. It’s complicated as s**t. My head was spinning when Nikki and Pendour were trying to tell me about stuff. I’m simple, though.”
She reached her arms out towards the air around her, tilting her chin back so she could look up at the sky. She felt a cool breeze rustle through her bangs, and she smiled. “No strings attached here.”
That was the way she liked it.
“I dunno if I’d call what happened with me a redemption arc,” she added. “It sucks that I had to throw my life away to get out of the Negaverse, but it still feels more like something that shouldn’t have happened than something I was invested in, y’know?”
