Has anyone read this book? my friend owns it and has told me some of the things in it, and it seems that Jesus and Buddha were truly on the same page, so to speak, I mean they pretty much just said, ok lets try and love everyone and show compassion and care for everyone and then we'll have the peace we want, funny how something so easy to say has yet to be attained, i mean look how longs its been since Jesus accended into heaven or when the Buddha obtained nirvana crying

I've read it. It's very good. If only people listened to 10% of Christ's teachings on love, instead of 100% of his teachings on hate.

Seanache I dont recall Jesus ever teaching on hate He did, there is a bible story where Jesus blew his top on some people in a temple who were doing some wrong things. Anyways, the similarities don't end with Jesus and Buddha, I'm sure that when you look at most mainstream religions you'll find them to be somewhat similar in thier values.

Let's say... righteous indignation.

yes lets say that, it is a much better way of putting it, cuz he didn't really hate it, but he couldn't let it continue so he just put a stop to it

It's not that Jesus taught about hate... it's that his teaching have been warped to justify it.

I hate when fundementalists do that, they take bits and pieces of the story to justify what they say without looking at the entire picture, that doesn't make sense, its like picking words out of a sentence to form a new and completely different one. its like I like red licorice, but I dont like black, some people do, and they would take it to be like ______ dont________like______black____people. or some crap like that

Llelwyn It's not that Jesus taught about hate... it's that his teaching have been warped to justify it. 3nodding i try telling people that even though i do not like christianity as the religion it is today, i do enjoy its fundamental teachings on love and compassion. perhaps its difficult for them to understand since most christians seem to be taught that any other religion is evil and, in my family's case, satanic... kinda follows in like with the sheperd and sheep eh? the masses are simply following what they are feed...

Has anyone ever read On Christianity, by Friedrich Nietzche (sp??!!) Hopefully you get the idea since I think I just completely butchered his name. But On Christianity, if I'm correct, is a comparison not necessarily about Jesus and Buddha, but between Buddhism and Christianity. I haven't gotten through the whole thing, but I've read other interpretations of the piece. I just want to hear other's ideas on it.

Demon Kagerou Made me think of one of the Zen stories I read in the book Zen Flesh, Zen Bones. Ah, here we go... whee Zen Flesh, Zen Bones A university student while visiting Gasan asked him: Have you ever read the Christian Bible? No, read it to me, said Gasan. The student opened the Bible and read from St. Matthew: And why take ye thought for raiment? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow. They toil not, neither do they spin, and yet I say unto you that even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these . . . . Take therefore no thought for the morrow, for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Gasan said: Whoever uttered those words I consider an enlightened man. The student continued reading: Ask and it shall be given you, seek and ye shall find, knock and it shall be opened unto you. For everyone that asketh receiveth, and he that seeketh findeth, and to him that knocketh, it shall be opened. Gasan remarked: That is excellent. Whoever said that is not far from Buddhahood. Of course, the person made damn sure to ignore Jesus' racism and his condemnation of those who disagreed with him (and those who were not Jewish) to hell when he read from the Bible. rolleyes Cherry picking for the win.
