Ok... here's the deal. What I'm considering on doing is closing the lotto. I don't know why... I just don't feel like dealing with it anymore. It would be one less thing on my mind. What I'm going to do is refund everyone's gold. BUT I don't want to post it in the thread that I'm doing that until it's done. I have an ungodly list of everyone who purchased tickets and how much gold they gave. So I know EVERYONE who had anything to do with it. Because I know how some people are.. they'll harass me over gold they didn't give. So I want to avoid that if at all possible. So I guess what I'm trying to say is what should I do? I went through the list and well, mostly everyone are purkles.. that's why I'm telling you all first. But there are some people on there that didn't tell me when they changed their names and now I can't find them. Which they aren't much but still... it's my obligation to return their gold, even if it is only 10g. I just need pointers about how to go about doing this sweatdrop

You could always just draw a winner from the tickets you have and pro-rate the prize.

That's a good idea... how would I go about doing that? About 1/4 of the prize since about 1/4 of the tickets were sold?

I got to thinking... there have been a couple people buy about the same gold worth of tickets... so they wouldn't actually be gaining anything if they win. At least if I refund it all that everyone would benefit from closing early, the good thing is that I've got everyone accounted for, even the ones I can't find. Plus what if one of the 4 people that I CAN'T find wins? I also read something in the TOS that in a money game that if it closes early for any reason that the best thing to do would give refunds, it's not bad to reduce the prizes but it's frowned upon. I think right now I'm mainly worried about the 4 people who changed their names. confused

Wish I could offer some advice, but I know nothing about how this works on Gaia. You can't post that you can't find 4 people because everyone will be clamouring for gold they did not give... and unless they can somehow prove they changed their name (although how they expected to win the lotto after changing their names, I don't know!!)....

Thanks Blais! Honestly I don't know how they expected to win either. I do have it stated in the rules to PM me if anyone changed their names! I've accounted for everyone otherwise. I don't know how likely it would be for someone to take a previously used name if they changed it, I mean the exact spelling and all, I don't think that's even possible... but heck, I don't know. So other than purkles (which I KNOW everyone here), I'm sure those names are the same.

Oh... about PMing a Mod... I don't know if that's something that would even work. For 1... they'd refer me to the game rules thread, which I've already read that a million times. For 2... I don't know how likely they'd help find just 4 people. Honestly I don't know what they'd say about that. But the thing about it is that the 4 people only add up to 276g. If nothing else I can keep it in a mule for safe keeping, until I hear from them otherwise.

Knowing the amount I've put in to this, I would rather see the refunds go out versus ending and drawing a winner with what you have. As for the 4 lost ones, I would consider that money gained. It was stated in the rules that if they changed their names that it was their responsibility to contact you with that info. If that didn't happen, their loss. It's not much to worry about...
I'm kinda bummed to see it end though...

If it's only four people (or one now) then don't worry.
Put a note in the thread and let them come find you. If they are active, they probably check back into the thread if they spent an amount of gold they are worried about. If they aren't active, I would imagine they don't care. Sounds like you have it all thought out, you can only do what you can do! Don't worry if one person can't be found. It sounds like you have 99% of the participants refundable.

I thought that when you changed your name, it automatically changed on all posts you have made. It could be a bit of work but have they posted on your thread? Maybe that's an option?

That's what I was looking for... the ones that did change their names but let me know posted in the thread. The only way I would know (if they posted in the thread) who they were is if someone quoted them. The names change but the quotes don't.
But what I'm doing now is I'm sending all the refunds. I don't know how many I can do in a day so I'm going to send you guys your refunds from Addy (my mule that's been holding the gold). Everyone who's not purkles will get theirs from me. Yeah, it's dipping into my gold here but my main concern is getting everyone their correct amount of gold back... then after it's over I'll figure out mine between the two accounts. It's not really a big concern with me if I end up a little short anyway. Just as long as noone else is!
