Magion had reached out to Urda, feeling very savvy, using her phone and making a meeting for them to work on their magic together. She had mentioned that hers was…causing problems. Not really problems, but it wasn’t working all the time. It wasn’t…normal, and she hoped maybe with practice, she could get comfortable with using it again.
She arrived early, and had a small tupperware container filled with a few banana muffins that Mary’s grandmother had made. Smiling, she looked up when she felt the other Senshi. “Hi! Urda! Hi! I brought muffins…I hope you’re ready to help me with this, I’m honestly kind of concerned that something might be wrong with me…it never used to do this before…I mean.”
Honestly, she hadn’t used her magic in so long…that…maybe she was just rusty. Maybe she really did just need practice.
“How have you been, by the way? Any more creepy creatures trying to kidnap you?”

Between schoolwork and soccer practice, life had gotten significantly busier than even he anticipated. Thankfully he had good friends to commiserate with and help him through, decompress with and all that. To his surprise, powering up had also helped with that. Something about bashing youma in or just having a bit of fun with his magic, trying to figure it out and get the hang of using it even if only in practice situations, that was just…refreshing.
So when he got the message from Magion he happily agreed, and hurried over to the agreed upon place wondering what might be in store for their evening. If he remembered right, her magic was a literal safety bubble, which he thought was awesome and probably something he could use when he went out on his own. He was careful to ensure powered life didn’t hinder civilian life, but really one could never be too careful, right?
Urda waved back in greeting and jogged the rest of the way over. “Hi! And definitely ready, kinda curious what you had in mind for practice. I’ll help however you need me to, as long as it’s something I can do.”
Considering her questions, he gave a little shrug. “Same same, I guess. No more creepy creatures, but busy and tired. Y’know, the usual things from a student.” He was smiling, though, to show that he didn’t really mind it. His reality was what it was, but it wasn’t bad by any stretch of the imagination. “What about you? You mentioned something going on with your magic?”

Magion nodded and gave a sigh. “I am not from the Earth, I can’t remember if I told you that or not, but before this…I hadn’t used my magic in almost…goodness. For a very long time…and I think maybe I’m rusty with it? I’m hoping you’ll just allow me to use it, just to see if it’s really practice that I need? I know I want to get strong again…I used…I used to be a much stronger Senshi…I was Eternal, and I had little wings in place of my bow…they were very cute…”
She sighed and held out the tupperware, giving a smile. “Here! Eat first, they are delicious! Banana that my friend’s grandmother made for us! But I wanted to share with you!”
Since he was being so kind and helping her.

He blinked at that, not quite recalling the detail about not being from earth from the last time they saw each other. Not that it mattered to him, but it was fascinating enough that it caught him off guard.
”That’s awesome!” he said, eyes large and childlike. His fascination with the stars and love for stargazing paired well with being a senshi given how their connection to stars and planetary bodies and all that. The idea that there were aliens among them was an exciting prospect, though he did his best to pocket the majority of his energy so he didn’t overwhelm her too much with it and all the questions that were starting to rush to his mind.
”And if you just need me as a target for your magic, that works fine for me! Your bubble’s pretty cool. Would no doubt be useful in any fight.” The teen gave a sagely sort of nod at that, and when she insisted on feeding him he peered down at the tupperware for a second before taking a muffin. “Thanks. Sorry, I don’t have anything to share…” It hadn’t occurred to him to bring anything, but next time!
Maybe. If he remembered.
”I’ve never heard of magic giving any of us trouble before,” he said before taking a bite. “Maybe it is just because it’s been a while. What sorts of things have you noticed?”

“I mean, it’s kind of useful…but…” Magion hesitated and tried to figure out how to word what she wanted to, and finally she sighed. “There are dangers in this world…dangers on this planet…my magic can do nothing to really defend myself…all I can really do is hope that the magic will make the dangerous people…chill out for long enough that they don’t want to hurt me anymore or that I can get away…”
She was pleased that he liked the muffins. “Oh! I wasn’t expecting you to bring anything! I just wanted to share what I had! It’s…nice to be able to share with people again. For way too long I was alone…so.”
Shrugging, Magion gave a little, sad smile, but shook her head to be rid of the bad feelings. “Anyway! Let me know when you’re ready!”

Urda sympathized, though he couldn’t quite relate to magic that wasn’t useful against enemies. Considering what happened last time, her magic did seem more suited to helping allies versus deterring enemies, but with some practice maybe she could get it to work in her favor for solo fights.
Quickly, he shoveled the muffin into his mouth and moved a few paces back to put some distance between them.
“Ready!”

Magion beamed and looked so absolutely pleased that he liked the muffin. She would have to let Mary know, and her grandmother as well! And it was a good thing to have on hand when interacting with friends…food on Earth…it was one of the best things that the planet had going for it.
Holding out her hand she gave a slight little wiggle, still wound up and excited and then prepared to cast her magic.
“Relax!”
And again…nothing happened. It was the same as the last time, when she had been trying to show it off, and she shook her hands out a bit. Maybe…she just wasn’t warmed up. Maybe she should start doing some exercises that…would promote magic? Was there such a thing?
Honestly…she didn’t really know, but once again she held her hand out and concentrated this time. “Relax!” Thankfully, the bubble came out this time, drifting towards Urda.

The senshi watched expectantly from where he stood, and when she called out her magic the first time he fully expected the bubble to manifest and start heading over to him just like the last time.
Only…it didn’t.
Urda blinked curiously, having never witnessed magic just…not working…and felt a quiet concern in the back of his mind for himself and other senshi as well. He’d have to ask around to see if this was happening to everyone, or if it was just a select few, and in either case he’d want to know what the cause for that was.
He wondered briefly if he could blame DC for this anomaly as well…
And just as he had that thought, he heard her call out her magic again, only this time the bubble did come out and he gave her two thumbs up from where he stood.
“Nice!” And true to its name, he was fully relaxed as it enveloped him once more. “So can this thing be popped on its way over to whoever you’re targeting? Or by the person inside? And can you target anyone, or just allies?”

Magion beamed brightly and returned the thumbs up, nodding.
“I’ve never tried to pop the bubble, and I’m not sure if it can be. All I really know is that you’re safe inside of them. Nothing can hurt you, and it protects you…it can be used on anyone, as far as I know. There’s nothing holding me back from using it on people who aren’t friendly…besides. It’s good to use them on those sorts…they’re…more likely to leave me alone afterwards, or…I have a little time to run and get out of the way so I can remove my powered aura and just be my civilian self…”
Escape plans were always good. Always necessary when there was trouble.
“It can’t be used on myself though, that’s the one big drawback…I’ve never gotten to relax from my magic…”

It was a curious thought, and relaxed though he was, he was curious about something about his own magic. Figuring out whether it would work, and if it did work would it be able to pop the bubble, was a nice, two birds-one stone situation.
“Lemme try something!” he said, rolling his neck and shoulders as her magic held him very comfortably in its grasp. He felt more relaxed than he felt he was capable of on his own, which was probably a good thing. “But I’m gonna look that way,” he pointed in a random direction, “‘cause otherwise I think my magic’ll come at you. Hang on.”
Turning, he kept his eyes on his own hand and knelt onto the ground, resting his palm down and willing the words in his mind to summon his magic. He fully expected a thorny shrub to surround himself–and perhaps the spikes would be enough to burst the bubble–but when nothing happened he sighed and looked back over at her.
“Guess I can’t use my magic on myself either, so that was a flop. But I mean, I also don’t actually wanna pop this bubble, so maybe that’s a pointless question to ask?”

Magion nodded and tilted her head. “Are you…sure that it wasn’t just you having the same issue as me? Did your magic do anything?” There was concern in her voice, but…then again if this was an issue that affected others too…then it wasn’t just something she was doing wrong…which…
That was a reassuring thought.
“Are you sure that it wasn’t just something wrong? That’s preventing your magic?”
Honestly, she was glad that he couldn't pop the bubble…she wasn’t sure what she would do if someone did and really…why would they ever want to?
Her magic was wonderful, or at least that was what she had always been told. “If there’s something wrong with magic in general, that’s not a good thing, I don’t think!”

”I don’t think so,” he said, thinking back on the times he’d effectively used it in past encounters with youma. “I’ve always had a target I’m focusing my magic on, so I was wondering if I’d be able to use it so my magic surrounds me and keeps people from getting at me. I thought I just looked at the ground or at my palm it would work, but I guess not.”
Though given the way her magic had hiccupped, so to speak, maybe it was something else? Worry crossed his features, and the senshi ran a hand over the back of his neck to try and calm his nerves.
“At least I hope that’s all it is. Now that you say that, I am kinda wondering… Well, so how often does that happen to you? That your magic doesn’t come out when you try to use it?”

“Um…not…all the time…it’s happened…maybe three or four times now? And it never used to…but like I said…It had been a long while since I had used it so…maybe it’s just a practice thing…and it seems to work the second or third time I try…”
Which…honestly was a pretty terrible thing if there was a true threat but…
“It really might just be me. I’m going to try and do more practice…and then it’ll be as smooth as it had been a thousand years ago…hey, Urda? Would you ever like to come up and see Magion?”
Not that she could share everything but, she could share the one island…but. She wanted to take Bifrost up first. Still.
“I’ve promised Bifrost she could come up with me, but when I can go back up again after that, I would love to take you!”
He was…her second best friend after Bifrost, after all.

That didn’t sound great, but…well. Maybe it was just a practice thing, and she could stop worrying after she got back to using it on a regular basis.
“More practice is never a bad thing,” he said with a sagely nod. He considered himself something of an expert on that, given his years playing soccer and all the practice he put into that. “If you ever want company, just let me know!”
And then she offered to take him to her homeworld, and he blinked for a second, a little surprised because it wasn’t something that was often offered unless there was a reason. But if she wanted to share, he didn’t see any harm in accepting.
“Sure! I’d offer to take you to mine, too, but it’s…kinda just a giant, dark space right now so there’s literally nothing to see. Hopefully I can get that fixed, though, and once I do, I’ll let you know and open up the doors for friends to visit!”

“Yes please! Thank you. I would love to see Urda someday, and I would love to help you fi I can, if something is broken, I’m pretty good at figuring things out.”
Sometimes. When she had to. But. Anyway.
“I’m going to go on home now, but I know we’ll see one another again soon!”
Either she’d be contacting him or she hoped he’d reach out to her. And then they could both practice and both get stronger and it would just.
It would all be great!
Having friends was the best…especially when they were other Senshi!
