The Gargoyles (3) : Even when you thought you’d seen the last of them, it seems like you’re never really in the clear. A while back, there was an infestation of awful gargoyle creatures–and while every Star Festival had its fair share of oddities, this one seems to have introduced a permanent infestation upon the city. Maybe you see them perched on the roof, or hiding in the shadows, but not all of these grotesque creatures are satisfied with just escaping their interdimensional prison–some of them still have a bone to pick. They seem stony; some of them will watch with a penetrative gaze and never strike to attack, but some of them will dive down to target anyone who gets too close. The monsters come in an array of sizes and shapes, but they are no more than half the size of their target. Their goal is uncertain, but they will crumble into a pile of rocks and dust if struck hard enough.
This RP can be used as a battle requirement as long as there are at least two powered characters involved; you must be interacting with another player’s powered character and cannot solo this with two of your own characters. This does not count as the ‘one youma battle’ per stage for growth. This can only be used as a battle requirement once per character, but there is no limitation for how many times a player can use this prompt.
Something had happened, Desiree had let him know, and in turn, he let Eskrom know by leaving a note at their meeting spot. His medallion rested in his breast pocket, keeping his signature muffled down to captain level. It wouldn't matter to the things he was looking to break up tonight, they weren't creatures that could sense signatures and he knew they really didn't care either.
For the moment, he kept back from the library and church which seemed to be the most likely places that the gargoyles had been nesting on, it would be better to wait for Eskrom to get here just in case. If it worked out well, he hoped it would garner more favor and perhaps more information from the squire. Both things would help him in the long run.

Upon receiving his note, Ekstrom was eager to meet with Chal, if only to share her own horrible experience with the stone gargoyles. It had been just the one time with Belmont, but it was an encounter she wasn’t likely to forget. So she hurried to their arranged meeting spot, her usually relaxed and at ease expression wrinkled by just a little bit of anxiety.
Just a little.
When she saw him in the distance she hurried just that bit more, and soon enough offered him a small wave in greeting.
“Hey,” came a greeting that sounded lighter than she actually felt. “Hopefully you haven’t been waiting long.” The Squire couldn’t help but flicker her gaze to the library and church just beyond him. She was wondering if he wanted to tempt fate, see the things for himself before he sketched them into his notebook and jotted down his observations. With any luck that wouldn’t be the case, but she had to ask to find out.
“So what’s the plan again for tonight?

Chalcanthite felt her before he heard her and waved slightly. "Not terribly long, I wanted to wait before proceeding. Some of those things decided to go after a few people that I know who are uninvolved in all this." Looking up at the building he was standing near, the outline of stone statues remained still for the moment.
"Unfortunately, fighting is far from my specialty. I want to see how easy it may be to deter them if possible. I have noticed them moving ever closer to the University and that worries me greatly." It wasn't a lie, not when it boiled down to it. He just needed to avoid pulling his weapon if he could manage it. It was something he needed to work around anyway for future encounters.
"If needed, I have a weak bow but I am far from a great shot and want to avoid any mishaps in case you are of the more up close and personal type of fighter." There was a bit of concern and nervousness in his voice, just the right amount to relay his aversion to fighting while not sounding too cowardly. It was a fine line to play as he looked between Ekstrom and where the stony foes waited.

Ekstrom’s gaze was settled on the building as he explained, and she nodded along to each point. “Guess they’re not picky about who they target,” she said, finally looking back to the Captain, a sigh escaping her. “I had my own run-in with them a little while ago, I was patrolling with another knight and a cluster of them just attacked, unprovoked.”
Unless maybe calling them ugly counted as provoking them. In any case, it hadn’t been the greatest of experiences, but if she could put a silver lining on it, it had been good real-time fight training.
Her expression lightened some as he explained his slight aversion to fighting. It made plenty of sense to her, and she couldn’t help the smile. “Lucky you, that’s pretty much what I seem to be equipped for.” She gave her shield a pat for good measure. “Unlike Captain America’s, my shield isn’t doesn’t magically boomerang so there’s no chance I’ll ever throw it around for any kind of long distance action.”
She nodded toward the building. “I’ll take the lead, then? Just in case?”

Nodding, he pulled his bow carefully and held it at the ready. Even if he didn't use the broadheads on these things, he could still thwack them with it. It might give his wrists some hell but he preferred that over showing how good of a shot he was.
"Be safe, I am thankful I can stay back but I worry about those who have to get close to danger." The concern was there but then his focus shifted as he heard the sound of grinding stone.
One of the gargoyles seemed interested, luckily it was only the one, and Chalcanthite wondered if they might be shy after Ekstrom had apparently had a run-in with them before.
"It seems one of them has decided to test things, I can keep an eye on the others as well." Stepping back slightly as the first one descended, it still seemed to be cautious which was just the slightest bit surprising after the things he had heard about them.

”I always try to be,” she said as she stepped forward, grateful for his concern. Ekstrom was confident, though, in her skill on the field. Confident enough, anyway. She probably wasn’t the most skilled at fighting, but she at least felt as though she could hold her own. Maybe if the things were actually sentient she’d be more concerned, but based on the last encounter they seemed more like things that attacked simply for the sake of attacking.
The sound of grinding stone gave her pause, and when he called attention to the one that started its targeted descent. Narrowing her eyes, she kept her focus on it even as she focused on her magic, soon summoning her shield and watching it expand up to meet the statue as it fell. The stone seemed to stop moving for a second–just like last time–which bought her just enough time to position herself before fully ramming into the thing with the full force of her body.
Just like last time, she knew she would feel the impact on her arm tomorrow. But for now, it didn’t bother her.
The cracked statue fell, motionless on the ground a short distance in front of her.
“If I pulse my magic just right, it makes them kinda stutter in their movements, so I can make little openings like that,” she said as she rolled her shoulder in an effort to get it to relax. “It still takes a bit of strength, but they’re not impossible to stop.”
Squire —
Ekström holds her shield out as if using it to defend herself. Upon focusing, a forcefield materializes from her shield and surrounds her and anyone within 10 feet of her. The forcefield is light blue and glitchy in appearance. She has a magic pool of 40 seconds. For the duration of her casting, the forcefield can either absorb or reflect (which one it does is up to her at the time of casting) all magical effects up to her rank. It can lessen the damage of third stage magic but has no effect on fourth stage magic. Reflected magic is only as strong as basic level magic if it does hit someone (she has no control over the direction the magic is reflected). She cannot reflect third or fourth stage magic. Individuals are able to touch and/or pass through the forcefield, however enemies that do will feel as though something inside their body is short circuiting, causing mildly sharp pains to run through their entire body. For a few seconds moving becomes a little bit uncomfortable. Magic is unaffected and unhindered within the forcefield.
