Quote: The Gargoyles (3) : Even when you thought you’d seen the last of them, it seems like you’re never really in the clear. A while back, there was an infestation of awful gargoyle creatures–and while every Star Festival had its fair share of oddities, this one seems to have introduced a permanent infestation upon the city. Maybe you see them perched on the roof, or hiding in the shadows, but not all of these grotesque creatures are satisfied with just escaping their interdimensional prison–some of them still have a bone to pick. They seem stony; some of them will watch with a penetrative gaze and never strike to attack, but some of them will dive down to target anyone who gets too close. The monsters come in an array of sizes and shapes, but they are no more than half the size of their target. Their goal is uncertain, but they will crumble into a pile of rocks and dust if struck hard enough. This RP can be used as a battle requirement as long as there are at least two powered characters involved; you must be interacting with another player’s powered character and cannot solo this with two of your own characters. This does not count as the ‘one youma battle’ per stage for growth. This can only be used as a battle requirement once per character, but there is no limitation for how many times a player can use this prompt. Grumbling as she walked down the brick path towards some of the older churches and buildings, Spasskaya was not amused by this whole turn of events and new batch of things she was responsible for when she had been very much busy with trying to figure out how to deal with her ex. Adjusting her cap, she looked down at the worn bricks and cursed a colorful plethora of things in Russian. This code, this wonder, all of it, felt like a distraction from her goals here. She'd come to the US for a reason and this wasn't it but... she couldn't deny that it could be a lucrative turn of events in the long run. It left her with a disguise of sorts, a way Rene wouldn't see her coming. But in order to do something like that she needed to plan and to feel out how things worked. Begrudgingly that meant she had to listen to the code or whatever and look into things. There was this pull, one she'd avoided the past night when this all had unfolded as she'd been pulled into some sort of crazy gameboard. This whole city was a mishmash of things, something she didn't know if she liked or hated just yet. Whether that meant the people here or the buildings was also up in the air right now. Stopping as the brick changed to limestone, she looked up at one of the old cathedrals and scowled. The architecture was lacking, the place was worse for wear, and more than anything, she thought the gargoyles looked out of place and time.

It was still an adjustment. All of it–between her powers and noticing all the magical things that used to just fly completely under her radar. It wasn’t her fault she didn’t spend too much time dwelling on the strange things that happened in this city–she was busy as all hell with her residency–but even with her busy schedule there were things she just couldn’t not notice.
Like these gargoyles.
Instinctively, they put her on edge and she powered up on a rare night off just to see if she was right. Oh, she’d be happy if she was wrong about it all, but she had a very strong feeling that she wasn’t.
Sensing an oncoming Order signature, Waipoua snapped her head up from the one she had locked eyes with as soon as she made it to an older cathedral she decided would be the starting point of her investigations. If gargoyles were going to be found somewhere, it was guaranteed to be on one of these buildings, right?
No sooner did she look up did she hear the none too subtle grinding of stone directly ahead of her, and the thing launched itself at her, sending the both of them over the edge of the building. Other gargoyles seemed to follow after them, each dive bombing from their places, their sights on the falling knight.

Seeing movement was a bit of a surprise, but what was more of a surprise was the fact that someone was falling from the rooftop. Gargoyles were following as well, leaving her feeling validated in her feeling that they were out of place. Running up, to where the person was falling towards, she knew that catching them would suck so she diced to try and distract the other gargoyles so that one might decide that holding onto the other woman was a better idea than dropping her. Throwing her pendulum, she knew the thing probably wouldn't hurt them but it was worth a shot. It hadn't been the best throw but it did smash into one of the things and knock it off course a bit. This was way off her list of things to do but she would take some satisfaction in trying to break some of these eye sores of architecture. Might be a good bit of stress relief since she couldn't take it out on René just yet.

Waipoua was glaring at the gargoyle that was hanging on to her while they plummeted to the ground when she saw something make contact with one of the other statues that followed after them, knocking it off course. The reassurance of having someone on her side bolstered her resolve, and with great effort she struggled against the gargoyle and eventually was able to flip them so she was on top.
Just in time, too, as they came crashing to the ground a second or two later.
A cloud of dust formed on their impact, from which the Page emerged, sprinting while looking none too happy. “One down, two to go?” she called to hopefully someone who was an ally. “Any ideas?”
The gargoyles on her tail soon emerged from the dust cloud as well, one with the beginnings of a crack on its body while the other looked perfectly fine, not to mention ornery as it dashed toward the two Pages.

Watching as she got closer, but not close enough to be in the crash zone, Spasskaya was surprised at how the woman was able to orient themself to not get hurt. It was satisfying to see the thing smash and a small but wicked little smile flashed over her face as she ran over to retrieve her pendulum and meet up with the woman as they dusted off. "Not sure, this is pretty new but they look fragile I guess?" Her accent came a bit thicker as she was ready to beat down these things. Looking over as movement started in the corner of her eye, she wasn't terribly bothered by the things when she really thought about it. Sure they shouldn't be running around but they were awfully tacky and she knew it would be satisfying to get rid of them. Holding her pendulum like a bat, she nodded at the other. There was still a bit of a smile on her face as she took up her stance without much hesitation. "Guess we can see if we can break them apart?"

She took note of the accent but tucked it away as a random fun fact, far more interested in the pendulum she was holding and her willingness to help get rid of the oversized stone pests. “Surprisingly fragile,” she said, glancing over at the two oncoming hostiles with a huff. “To be fair, we did fall from the roof so there was plenty of momentum to dust it.”
Seeing the woman get into position, Waipoua smirked and gave a single nod before turning her eyes to the gargoyle that was already sporting a pretty mean crack. She got into position after tucking her cane into her sash–wood versus stone was a no brainer, after all.
The gargoyles rushed them, one gargoyle for one Page, and Waipoua waited until the one coming for her got close enough before she lunged at it, maneuvering herself so she could pull the thing down and smash its face in with her knee. It wasn’t painless, but its face did cave inward, and when she let it go it fell to the ground with a very satisfying thud.
She’d definitely have to ice her knee when she got home, but at least that was one more target down.

Swinging her pendulum, she felt the thing crack on impact but that didn't mean she came out of it unscathed. Cursing and shaking her hand as the gargoyle went over her shoulder and shattered on impact with the ground. Stepping forward as she shook out her hand some more, she wondered if she'd sprained something but it was hard to tell right now. Maybe something she'd notice later once she was home and under the bright light at her work desk. The others up on the church seemed to still as she looked up at them, sending a wide smile over her face. "Guess they scare easy. Must be a good message we sent? Ah, I'm Spasskaya." Walking over to the other woman as she dusted off the bits of stone from her outfit.

”Waipoua,” she returned the greeting, dusting off her own uniform now that the dust had settled, both literally and figuratively. Glancing up, she considered the other knight for a moment before nodding toward her hand. Having seen what she did to get rid of the gargoyle targeting her, she couldn’t avoid the occupational hazard of being a doctor and seeing something that might be a little bit off.
“That was a nice move, but you might want to consider going to urgent care for your hand,” she said as she gestured to her own knee. “I know I am, for my knee. We’re sturdier like this, I’ve noticed, but better safe than sorry.”
She stopped there, though, and glanced up again. The gargoyles were just statues again, it seemed, and she had absolutely no intention of sticking around to wait and see if they would come back to life after some length of time. Nodding her head in an arbitrary direction, she said, “I’m that way. You?”
