Destiny City is a large place, with a large population. It’s not uncommon to find a lost item here or there. Maybe a keychain, an earring, a book.

But, a six sided die? That’s different.

While traveling through Destiny City, you find a strange little object. It looks like old, stained wood, but something shiny in it catches your eye. How could you resist picking it up? But then, maybe you've found one of these dice before. Maybe you remember the Gameboard, already.

It was…a curious thing, Haik thought, as he came upon the six-sided die, seemingly discarded in the park. Perhaps it was by mistake? Or was it by design, that a perfect stranger was meant to pick it up and take it home? It was beautiful, that much he could tell. Truly a beautiful piece of craftsmanship, and he leaned over to pick it up.

That was arguably his first mistake of the night.

Picking it up seemed to transport him to…well. Somewhere else, but that wasn’t particularly articulate, was it? Not that he cared to be in that moment, engulfed in darkness but able to see some kind of path ahead. It was…bizarre, to say the least. But there seemed to be only one option, given there was nothing more save for the die in his hand.

Space 6
You hear a shrill, humming noise; it sounds almost like something is firing past you–and sometimes, you even feel a sharp burst of air, like something has just missed you. Maybe, even, it does get a slice out of you. Sharp, bladelike threads seem to string up around you; you’d best be careful not to get cut on any of them between now and your next dice roll.

He rolled and watched the path ahead open, and he walked cautiously forward, glancing about the new space he landed on once he stepped onto it. There was a strange humming noise, he noticed, but, again, nothing more for a second before he was hit by a sharp gust of air. Then another, and then another, and then…a sharp cut to his arm. And another, and another.

Sharp threads seemed to whip around him, tried to wrap around him as he carefully moved through the space, rolling the die in his hand as he went.

Thankfully he didn’t suffer too many more cuts before making it out of that space. Haik quickly assessed his current state, then hurried down the path.

Space 10
A swampy smell fills the air. You take a step, and you seem to sink into it. Mud creeps over your feet, and you sink rapidly. Ankle deep, knee deep. Whether or not you squirm and fight against it, you are sinking. The mud is crushing and painful, and if you sink too deep it steals the breath from your lungs. There’s nothing to grab onto; you have to roll your dice quickly before that too gets sucked into the muddy quicksand.

He sank into the next rolled space as soon as he stepped onto it, causing him to stumble forward. Thankfully he was able to quickly scramble to his knees, but all the same he just continued to sink. He was waist deep before he knew it, and then his stomach was being crushed by the sudden pressure. Soon, he knew it would be his lungs…

So he quickly raised his hands and rolled again.

His thoughts were a jumbled mess as he scrambled up and out of that space, making sure to keep a tight hold on the die as he went. On his planet there was nothing that could suck you into such a weird space where you face potential death at every turn like this, though certainly if one was so unlucky they might find themselves face to face with the worst creatures the Deep had to offer. Even then, it was hard to even get to where such creatures lurked.

This? He was just on patrol in the park where he saw a random die on the ground! How could such an innocuous encounter lead to this?!

Space 16
As you step into your square, something cracks. At first, you can’t tell what it is, but as your full weight moves onto the square, the ground shifts beneath you. It’s cold, and it’s ice, and a hole falls underneath you, plunging you into frigid waters. There’s enough floating ice that you should still be able to roll the dice to get out of here, but you have to go quickly–you’re soaked, in chilly water, and something just swam by your feet.

He might have continued down that train of thought had the floor beneath him cracked as soon as he stepped onto his next square, and before he knew it he had fallen through and was plunged into impossibly frigid waters. He felt the cold biting into his flesh before sinking into his very bones. Even as someone with an affinity to water and absolute confidence when swimming in it, it was a struggle to make it back to the surface, but he wasn’t planning on losing to…whatever this was. Or to whatever just swam by his foot.

He broke the surface and took hold of a floating piece of the icy flooring that had cracked and was now floating in various sized chunks all around him. As soon as he had a decent grip on one, he rolled the die again, and wondered when this would end.

He was wet and freezing as he hurried down the path to the next square, his focus now solely on surviving. The previous square had felt a little too close for comfort, but hopefully, hopefully…

There had to be an end, right?

Space 20
The end; once you have arrived here you are free to leave. You will see be basked in the glow of a beautiful, opalescent aura that will take you back home. If you arrived with a guest, you can leave without them or choose to stay until they make it to the end as well. When you arrive back in Destiny City, you may choose to keep the six sided die–if nothing else, it’s pretty! Though, it doesn’t seem to have any magical qualities, that might be for the best.

And much to his relief, this was it. He felt a warm light fall on him from somewhere above. Looking up, he saw…absolutely nothing and no one. It was hard to make anything of this encounter, except that he was happy to be leaving. Looking back down the path he came, he scrunched his brows curiously before it disappeared and he was suddenly right back in the park.

The die was still in his hand, but save for that, the fact that he was still drenched, and his memory, there was no evidence of anything that he had just experienced. It was…strange. Earth, perhaps, was strange. Deciding he could ask Monika about it, he promptly turned and headed home, pocketing the die for safekeeping in case there was something to be gleaned from it.
